Rip

A life is a life, and life is too short. I hope everyone lives, breaths and loves for us all. Be happy be free, be kind and be me ❤️

RIP Jack.

This one really hit me. Gutted. Living in Glasgow, going out all the way through the late 2000s right up to to today - all those soundhaus, arches, sub club nights, afters, then numbers nights at off sonar, then seeing him in Ibiza, especially at circo, some really special memories.

I remember his "30th birthday party" at SWG3, it was total bedlam, like ridiculous carnage. Great night.

Quincy Jones is dead. R.I.P

Yeah just saw that! Living until you are 91 in that industry is as impressive as the legacy he leaves.

I'm going to put on MJ's Off The Wall album right now - total and utter masterclass from Quincy that one!

Thriller was probably my first exposure to dance music when I was 8/9 but didn't really properly appreciate it till years later. Despite the ubiquity, it still sounds amazing today

Thriller is obviously insanely good. But for me Off The Wall was MJ and Quincy's best. I also think Bad gets overlooked too as overshadowed by the other two. The mix of sounds, and that cross-over was so impressive - very underestimated IMO.

THIS

Off the Wall was funky as fu.. Thriller was a different direction. Best production, good commercial songwriting ,but nothing to remember for me.
For the Dancefloor please the earlier one

They're both great albums in different ways. It's daft to compare when there had been so much change from 79-82 with disco forced back underground and then MTV completely changing the game and expanding music markets beyond racial boundaries. Production changed dramatically too with new sounds and 'gated drumming' coming in. They both have serious dancefloor moments imo. Every DJ from the worst wedding to the coolest party has at some point dropped wanna be starting something. I know Terrence Parker often cuts up Billie Jean and twists the shit out of that riff.

Maybe I think about the thing, for what Thriller stood : Ultracommercial, well done, overproduced radio sounds. As Said : Well done, as Remix danceable. But not to remember for me.
Btw : Anyone rememembers Songs to remember from Scritti Politi ? Same era.
