RESISTANCE IBIZA [Sasha & Digweed] @ Privilege 2017

as you correctly guess, they never expected 10k people for those shows.

I'm sure they'd love to have a bit of a bigger crowd, but considering how the island as well as the competition on the same night looks this summer, the result is simply what's realistic
for a new party (i went to the second), I think in these times, the numbers are good - a bit sparse in bits but for me nice and comfortable (not too busy not to quiet). I also got the impression that the clientele were there for the music and not gimmeks albeit their production is first class. line up this week was quality. I really hope that they grow and stay on for next year as this type of night is what we all need.

Yep and actually to back up that everyone was there to dance....The smoking area was always pretty dead!. I found that night to be the stand out night for people just really properly dancing.

I actually thought 'Ants' when I was there just because that is what it felt like

a party ive been 3 times & i will go back for sure along closing 17
Follow the captain, if you know you know

2 hours is criminal for S and D. I know we shouldn't speculate on 2018 but again, can't see S and D coming back, but maybe resistance may continue with random artists

TBH, If S&D were playing a 4-5 hour set every week, I don't think the night would be as successful as its been. S&D are not the crowd pullers they once were. At least with the line ups Resistance are putting on, the night is attractive to a wider audience.

S&D do play kind of hard and menacing / serious their style isn't really for the crossover crowd, I personally absolutely love it but a more accessible techy build/drop/loopathon does seem to help draw the more mainstream crowds who'll help fill up the main room (to the capacity limiting curtains anyway !). It works for both Paradise and Elrow musically and S&D in Vista would be a perfect combo imho ....

I quite agree. Sasha can deliver a good short set but I've never been impressed by diggers on a short haul format. Frankly he just sounds to my ears like he's going through the motions - all troughs, no peaks and no journey.

I do wonder if they are at the right venue too for the reasons of size and programme. It feels like resistance are risk averse and hedging their bets with the line up and the venue is too big (however much I like privilege). Maybe a smaller venue with a crowd there for them feels like a better solution and would enable them to play longer sets.

thing is, resistance are in a situation where they need to please two pretty different crowds at one event. the people that come almost exclusively because of S&D and then the younger folk that come because of the other names....

Yeah, that's what I mean. Hence hedging their bets and I'm not sure it satisfies either group.

Any reports from this week? Numbers etc?

I'm not sure what to do 5th Sept. Line up looks decent between both rooms but I've been in Privilege before when its not overly busy and did not enjoy it regardless of the music.

just spoke to them. they were pretty worried beforehand because of prydz closing happening, but they got pretty much the same numbers as the week before which is a better result as they expected.

now I think the next weeks should be good. it´s hard to predict, but a) one night less to compete against and b) end of august and september normally more grown up ravers come to the island which should result in more people coming to see S&D. I might be wrong but I do think that especially 5th september should get busy as it´s the last date of them on the island this year. don´t expect to see a packed privilege, but the main room should be busy enough. the one room that has been suffering a bit for resistance was always the vista club.

Cheers Stivi. That was my thoughts re: their last dates + No Prydz. Also IMO, Tuesday goes a bit weak anyway. Sankeys is going to be the very young crowd with Together. S+D vs Maceo but again different crowds so in theory you'd think this night will do well IF the tourist numbers are there
