purse-snatchers in san antonio!!

just wanted to warn all the girls out there who carry purses about thieves in san antonio!! and no, i don't mean purse thieves in bars, although i'm sure there are those...or people who may steal your purse on the beach. i'm talking about guys driving by you in cars and ripping your purse right off your body!!
i was in san antonio a couple weeks ago and had my small purse stolen by four guys in a car who drove by me and ripped my purse off from across my body!!!!
i was walking back to my hostel with my friend when a car load of guys drove up beside me, stole my purse and drove off! it happened so fast!!
THEN to add insult to injury they drove back around yelling out the window: "is this your bag!?"
i yelled back: "yes! can i have it back please?" at which point they stopped the car; so, i started walking towards the car and as soon as i did they drove away about three/four feet. i stopped, thinking they were going to drive off again. then they stopped. i started walking again and then they drove off. it was INFURIATING!!!!!!
needless to say i cancelled my canadian credit card and my uk bank card, right away. they got away with 60 euro and my camera....MY CAMERA!! all the pictures i had taken of my holiday are gone!!!
ASSHOLES!!!!!!!!!!!
small, black, squar-ish type car, with the numbers 001 in the plate.
on the up side, BIG BIG thank you to viva bar (specifically sam) who let me use his computer to call canada and the uk to cancel my cards!!!
anyway, i'm posting everywhere and telling everyone, as not ONCE did i hear of such thievery going on in ibiza.
girls keep your purses at home, or at least close to your body...not dangling off your hip, tempting drive-by purse snatchers!!
and for those of you wondering yes, i did report it to the police so they know what the hell is going on!!! the one police woman who was at the police station didn't speak much english and i don't speak much spanish, so i'm not sure how much she understood of my story and an interpreter wasn't offered...but at least i tried!

sorry to hear :(

I'm paranoid about this sort of thing happening.. always checking my pockets for my phone/wallet everytime I go anywhere remotely busy.

thanks for the warning hoppy. can i add that your advice could also be followed in the vast majority of places in the world.............

not nice at all ,hope your holidays were not spoilt by these nutters.
shame about the photos as they mean more after the hols when your sitting back reminiscing.

we as a family have been visiting the glorious white isle for last 5 years now, and i never seen anything like this happen.
and we spend 90% of our time in the West end area, i have met only friendly fun loving happy people , but we all know it only takes 1 situation like yours to spoil a holiday.
good luck,good health ,good partying!!

Those black girls at the end of the West End tried to put their hands into my back pockets the other night. Another Spanish guy tried to do the same last night. Would love to see the police beat the hell out of these scumbags.

If they think you're drunk or alone, they will target you.

I was waiting outisde of work at the top of the west end at about 4am last week and some
stupid 17yrold-ish spanish kid walked up to me and tried to grab my handbag off my arm.

I went straight to one of the bouncers on the Highlander and he got quite a talking too.

it's so terrible to hear these things happening

I don't want to bag out San An but it seems quite rough this year. Ive always stayed on the other side of the island and as this is my first I have come across lots of things that I hadn't seen on the island.

With the way the economy is going this sort of crap is only going to get worse.

I had friends who stayed in San Antonio last year and someone broke into their apartment and robbed them of EVERYTHING.

Whenever i travel anywhere I always ensure that my wallet is in my front pocket (i don't care how bulgy it might look).

I also like to split up my credit cards and identification so i only take a small collection of these when i go out. I always have my passport, other credit cards back at the hotel securely (and again not in the same place… call me paranoid lol).

As far as the beach, I always only take cash with me. I have met someone who had his passport in his wallet along with money and everything else and it all got stolen at the beach.

Theres lots of gypsies on the island this year and if anyone has been to rome and other parts of europe you know how crafty they can get.

Stay safe.
xo

Beware of the ladies in the west end early hours of the morning looking for business.....They also pickpocket you! Happened to my mate this holiday as we were walking back to the hotel

So sorry to hear that happened to you and thank you for the warning. It's infuriating but at least you're safe. Sucks that your holiday pics are gone, though.

Also be aware of Romanians who plonk themselves right next to you sunbathing and then when you go into the sea they steal anything of value. Do not take valuable stuff to the beach and leave it unattended while in the sea. Or make sure a mate stays on the sand with your things.

I was told this by local people as a tip and also saw it being attempted once.

just beware of Romanians in the port area.mainly those getting of the cruise boats.a few people i met had there hand bags nicked.mine you they did put them on the floor next to there case or on top of it.its called hand luggage, clue is in hand.not to to left on the floor or on top of your case.never put all you eggs in one basket.

I've never say any romanians on a beach in my life in Ibiza? Always leave my stuff on the beach in a bag, as I guess I just assmed that the folk around you would chin anyone who tried to go through your stuff...

Same in santa eulalia a women was mugged and her husband gave chase and tripped - still in Hospital.

A place can get a bad reputation very quickly if not step on very quickly
