yr not racist, more funked off with the piss taking attitude of certain sections of our society than anything.

Beauty Salons up and down the country are worried about a drop in turnover now that the Met Police are doing Brazillians for nothing.

Already been posted in a separate thread, Ferd ;)

From the Guardian online:

"According to documents obtained by ITV News from the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC), which is investigating the shooting, Mr de Menezes was filmed on CCTV cameras entering the station at a normal walking pace and even picking up a free copy of the Metro newspaper. He was wearing a denim jacket."

http://www.guardian.co.uk/attackonlondon/story/0,16132,1550815,00.html

And there's more to it:

- according to witnesses he didn't run down the stairs, he was going down the stairs on a normal pace;
- when he saw the train at the plataform, he ran the last steps of the stair, went inside and sat down;
- after he heard someone shout "Police", he stood up, he was imobilized by the policeman (there were two Policemen, dressed with civilian clothes), and he was lying on the train floor with both his arms along his body --> in this position he received 12 gun shots (7 on the head, 1 on the body and 4 missed shots).

That's what's on every newspaper in Brazil today!

No wonder the chief of Scotland Yard and the English Ambassador apologized to the victims family...

Saw a still shot from the video online. No backpack, no heavy coat.

Two words: innocent victim.

a victim of the times we live in unfortunately, killed by events rather than one person, a paranoid, twitchy, unprepared security service....a terrible tragedy......however, I think charging said individual with murder is a tad extreme?? :(

It seems you are correct.

Though not sure I'm liking the demonisation of our police force from our international board members.

(Especially one from Russia ;) )

sounds like a cock up all the way down the line. manslaughter is most cop should get.

I'm not saying that this isn't a tragedy, as it obviously is.

I just find it strange that this is the only thing people (and the media) are still talking about of all the happenings in London over the last few weeks. Everyone seems more outraged at this one killing than all of the others combined.

I picked up on that too!! And the rags (mail & standard) that 4 weeks ago were calling him a terrorist and praising our security forces have done an amazing "about turn" but then again, thats the press. It does alarm me that the "regional" paper down here is so jingoistic??? :?

Oh, and will people stop saying it's the actual gun-firer's fault.

The fault lies with the intellegence, and because of that (aside from the fact whether you agree with the STK policy or not) the marksman can't (I think) be prosecuted, and rightly so.

i said it earlier and i will repeat.

the problem is not so much in the shooting but the police's reaction afterwards.

they lied, and put out obviously false information in order to save their skins. it took the leak of the document the other day to prove what had been aparent all along. the only reason the press reported what they did in the aftermath of the shooting (the heavy jacket, the rucksack, the running away, the shouts of warning) was because of the police briefings they had recieved

why did the police allow obviously false information to, not only get into the public domain but remain there?

because pigs always look after their own and try to cover up their mistakes

Okay, I have a theory about this situation. Remember, it's only a theory or possible explanation so save the "tin foil" hat shite for somebody else.

Anyhoo, my theory is that this was somebody that the government wanted waxed for whatever reason. He could have been in the spy business, like a double agent and it was discovered that he betrayed the british government, or he could of had some information on Blair that they didn't want to become public...perhaps something along those lines. So the British government came up with an elaborate scheme to silence him by pretending he was a suspected terrorist. How else do you explain all the lies and a casual subway patron getting shot in that fashion. Now he's dead and all his secrets remain a secret.

Governments...you just can't trust them.

People tend to think of the Government as that supra-natural entity, that has the best brains working for them and withhold all the secrets most people would love to know (aliens, cure for diseases, high tech, etc.).

Actually, government staff is composed of politicians, public employees and a lot of people (some very skilled and competent and some are just stupid leeches who want to have a nice calm job and don't want to have to worry about it).

Having said that and knowing that, according to the papers, "the Police took him for a muslim terrorist and was after him for the past two days", I think that they were just stupid, unprepared Policemen, who commited a big mistake. But when Policemen commit mistakes, someone might die.

I don't believe in any conspiracy theory that puts the Government as this orwellian Big Brother that knows everything. Generally, it's the opposit: weird things happen more on a random basis and not on a well elaborated strategy.
