POOR INNOCENT MAN THAT WAS SHOT

Morbyd, I wasnt saying that other places dont suffer from terrorism, and im sure that if what happened here happened in where you are, you wouldnt change your views.

Im just saying that the people in Britain are generally more behind Blair's (and to an extent Bush's) policy on terrorism and Iraq etc than the rest of Europe. (Blairs popularity is bigger then ever when he said the police would continue the shoot to kill plicy)

The percentage of people that were in favour of the invasion of Iraq in Britain was greater than in Spain, France etc.. And this translates similarly to the situation created when the innocent Brazilian was killed. People here are probably less disgusted by the killing than in other parts of Europe. Im not saying which one is right, i was just trying to say that a difference in attitudes exists depending on where you are.

I agree with you Ferd.
I was talking this morning with people from work about the London situation and we all agree that you brits are always surprising.
The 11 march in Spain was totally politized from minute one. The gobernement, the oposition and us, the people.
Here people is very surprised there's no popular reaction, and that goes with what Ferd say about accepting terrorism policy

The Home office has just confirmed that the shot man WAS living illegally in Britain without a Visa for the last Two years. So that explains why he ran away. Ultimately, his own actions led sadly and directly to his death. he also had fake stamps in his passport, of a kind not in use when they were actually dated from.

I have absolutely no sympathy. It IS sad that he was shot but at the end of the day (waits for the items to be thrown at me) if he was where he should have been (ie his own country) it wouldnt have happened.

I swear to god before i moved to birmingham i wasnt racist like i am now (even tho i think i'm only a little bit) but when it hit the news about the first london bombings, one of the factories i supply temps to called and told me they'd had to remove nearly 40 of them because they were cheering!!! 8O .......i immediately called them all and sacked them and now some of them are trying to have me ofr discrimination. WTF is that all about? Live here fair enough, but that behaviour is discraceful and doing that i think they should all be shipped straight back where they came from. Im giving my reasons for sacking them on their references too to make sure they never work another day in this country - THATS evil!

So can the thread title be changed to "Illegal imigrant that was shot" ?
Ya, because that's a big enough offense to be killed for.

I'd like to see your reactions if a British citizen were shot here in Moscow because he ran from cops because his visa had expired. Outrage! And don't lie and say a big deal wouldn't be made of it.

A big deal would indeed be made of it and it would also be a very sad event but if the circumstances were the same then my feelings would be the same.

I might be heading to Moscow soon....i'll be making sure my visa is in order though and obeying any policemen/military..of which i'll be seeing/dealing with plenty if i make the trip!

Your personal feelings might be the same (doubt it, to be honest), but your government would raise holy hell... and therein lies the hypocrisy.

Nevertheless, please do drop a line if you're coming this way. We'll take care of ya ;)

Cool, don't think i'd have time for any partying though....what i'd be coming for would provide all the entertainment/excitement i could handle i think ;)

http://www.incredible-adventures.com/robb.html

Know anyone that's done it or similar? It's been on my mind for a couple of years now and it won't go away
No, don't know anyone who's done that, but looks pretty darn wild

You'll have to add one day on to your trip then. I wouldn't feel right if a Spotlighter came to town and I didn't show him/her what this city's about

Some of your Moscow clubs/nights sound pretty wild too so i'm sure i'd manage an extra day if i tried ;)

Agree on the government hypocrisy thing. Our government's terrible for that. I'd like to say their views dont reflect the views of the nation, but its the nation that (stupidly) voted them in so I guess I cant say that!
