Plans for a “NEW” San Antonio

^ that's quite interesting

the whole touting system is very aggressive and makes me resistant to enter a bar. we did reluctantly enter one on St Agnes to use the toilets but they are effectively criminal enterprises that get away with fleecing stupid tourists. the town hall obv had to respond to pressure but if it cannot enforce the new rules without more plod on the ground, then it is all just horseshit.

To avoid noise problems and with the idea of bringing back more people to live in the area, the 50 bars and pubs in the West End won't have terrace at night from now on... Now that's a big change!!!

Really dont know what goes through the authorities heads, if San Antonio keeps getting pricier and more sanitised all that will happen is the 18-30's will go elsewhere and this dream target audience of 30+ middle class won't be taking their place due to San An's reputation. I feel sorry for the bars that have been there decades that have to put up with increasing amounts of stupid rules

I agree to an extent, san an is a beautiful town and its full of aggressive drunks and criminals, i dont think it'll change over night if at all in the next few years. The hotels are so cheap there it wont stop people going for a cheap booze up holiday, its a shame they won't put enough police out to do their job properly and clean up the dick heads robbing and attacking tourists.

I asked a bar owner about it and this is what I got:

It looks like the town hall in san antonio really want to destroy the west end. they have no plans to replace it with anything and they have no plans to stop the pickpockets, prostitutes and street sellers/drug dealers in the area. They are trying to kill it while all the time doing nothing to make it better for those that want to actually come to san antonio to enjoy it. Who do they expect to want to come to san antonio and take advantage of all the 1star hostels and pensions?? Rich people and families? old people and celebrities? San Antonio offers a service to a certain type of person and it can do it better, but we need help from the town hall, not punishment and by taking away what makes our businesses work in the first place. Soon all the bars will die and we’ll be left with an empty street that no one wants to go down and no one wants to turn into anythng other that bars as there are no customers and no one has any money. Their plans lack thought and planning and I think a lot of people are going to start leaving and then san antonio will be f***ed.

A Mediterranean resort where it will be against the law to have a drink outside in the main entertainment strip in the middle of summer? But nip down the street and you can rob people or sell drugs and sex seemingly at will? Danny Whittle always said San An was the gateway to Ibiza for so many young people. PDB moreso these days of course, but surely someone can come up with a better overall scheme to protect businesses, residents and tourists alike starting with better policing. And this constant quest for "wealthy tourists". Ugh. How about creating a well thought out, safe, inclusive resort for all so that any tourist, no matter their wealth, have the time of their lives and come back time and time again to explore the island further and further afield each year? If they're playing the long game to 2030 surely this is how they should be thinking.

The bars in Ibiza town seem to manage alright with masses of people, lots of different nationalities and a buzzing atmosphere, but San An seems to do it in a much tackier way! I remember once walking through the west end at night, and apart from all the screaming girls and general rowdiness, I saw people being sick and one man literally with his pants round his ankles doing a piss in the middle of the street with his hands on his hips! It was hilarious at the time, but I can see why they want to clean the area up a bit!

More Police patrols will stop that, not stopping drinking outside bars and driving all the customers away.
