paradise vs hyte

Was it just the two indoor rooms open for Paradise? If so, was the garden still open for chilling out?

Hope the loo queues aren't as bad as at Circo Loco's launch party in May!

not sure about hyte 22/07 line up.

dont know what dj harvey and john talabot are going to offer.

similar with mar-t not too much into his music.

and loco dice. dont know is he close to carolas music?

I would add that, personally, I feel JJ is the prime of his career. Last 3 times I've seen him, he's blown me away. (I'll probably be going to fabric this weekend too!)

He's at Paradise every week, bar 1 I think (although there's a big headliner to compensate - Carola?) so that already gives them an edge over Hyte who are swapping between Dice & Maceo as their marquee act - and even go without either on one date.

But I would also add that the "support acts", for want of a better term, at Paradise are too much of a mismash. Lots of the usual mercenaries who have associations with lots of nights, and loyalty to few.

WIC have you found the JJ from Timewarp set anywhere on the internet?

Harvey plays a mix of chuggy house, disco, funk and even occasional techno, with nods to the island's balearic roots. It sometimes works, sometimes doesn't but he never plays obvious!

I think it's pretty brave of the big ibiza nights to put Harvey on. Aside from a few loyal beards, he's not that well known on the modern ibiza circuit, most of whom are too young to remember his ministry sessions from the 90s let alone the early tonka raves in brighton! Plus, he's fairly uncompromising in his selections. Will be interesting to see the end of term reports. He has a mischievous streak and i've heard him drop Saxon records before - yes the metal band - which would clear the floor in most places. The cult around him though is similar to the cult around sasha, weatherall, tenaglia etc. i'm talking devotion. People flying from Norway to catch his sets. Him playing a record will in itself add zeroes on to its discogs value even if it's just some daft MC Miker G & DJ Sven or Planet Funk b-side or something. It helped his cause that he went a bit lord lucan for a few years after he left England - ended up in Hawaii and cdn't come back for about 15 years due to green card hassle. In his absence the mystique grew and his 'black cock' edits built up a reputation (or what cynics might call The Hype Machine). Then eventually he did come back to London and took over the Oval Space for a huge party. Terrible venue/staff but musically he still had it. Thereafter he hit the European festie circuit and his style has evolved a lot since. If you're bored by disco or groove-based music or weird shit, it'll probably all wash over you but I think he's one of the good guys. Shout to Robder and Laguna Beach (?) if they still post - i know they're big fans.

And he stays with friends of mine in Miami when he plays there . I've heard Some crazy stories from that house near Happys..o_O

Also any news on the guest for the 9th September? I would hazard a guess at Seth Troxler, but I'm wondering what the hold up would be with that one.

hyte last night - terrace apparently VERY poorly attended. from about 3/3:30am everyone in the main room

Wasn't Maceo on the Terrace last night? They need to save this by making it in one room only.

Next week they don't even have Maceo or Dice do they? Paradise line-ups just seem too damn strong.

That's a shame as it was a great line-up with Agoria and Barnt. Guess most of that audience would probably have been at Paradise instead.

agree their line ups are generally really good. and also agree that lots of people go to paradise instead. but let's also not forget that there are loads of people who already go to either cocoon or music on (or even both) and then they simply don't want to go to the same club 3 times within 5 nights.

as mentioned earlier (but maybe it was another thread), the opening night of hyte was really busy as was the second week, but then numbers started to dwindle and especially since paradise is up and running, there are normally only enough people for one floor really. often also the dynamic changes midway through the night - say first off, the main room is busy and then suddenly everyone is over on the terrace and the main room is empty.

I've said this before - great artists overall, but it's a bold move to put a third weekly techno night into amnesia, also considering all the other competition on the island. I was always very vocal about this and said it wasn't gonna be easy for them...but they know it too; a few days ago I spoke to someone very much involved into hyte and they are aware it's gonna take some time. ah, what's also funny to see (up to a certain extent...but actually it isn't really) is that suddenly music on PR teams / team members are now heavily supporting paradise. ibiza clubbing politics at its best...or worst, depending on how you look at it.

Very interesting, Stivi about the politics!

It's a shame, as if Hyte was on a different night to Wednesday, we'd definitely go, but the Paradise line-up for our week is just much better. Plus the wonderful Optimo are playing!
