No More Balconing Please

Read about holidaymakers being fined for it in Mallorca, but what is it exactly? I thought it was jumping off your balcony to a certain death into the pool, but the photos I've seen are of people scrambling between rooms via the balcony? Or is it something else?

Sorry to be so thick but neither of the above have ever appealed to me. Especially from the top floor of Ibiza Playa. Ta!!

Anything to do with jumping from a balcony, whether it be down into a pool, or doing the Spiderman thing and jumping across/down onto other balconies.

She definitely not a fan of the island is she?
Sadly sone of the things she said are true but I think she went a bit too extreme and exaggerated with the narrative like in the case of that kid turning into a killer after visiting Ibiza.

An interesting perspective from an author I respect very much, thanks! For the record: should I (God forbid) die in a nightclub, I wouldn't want the place to close. Would you? Would you want your death to ruin the fun for other people who have nothing to do with it? I am personally not that egoistic. I guess I need to get a tattoo "don't resuscitate, have the DJ play Chicane - Offshore in my honor" :D

One important word missing in the article is "freedom". Deaths are a necessary price to be paid for freedom. If you can jump from cliffs into the beautiful blue sea, you have to accept some of the jumpers will return home in coffins. Same for swimming in unsupervised locations, for hiking on cliff edges, for going down to Atlantis and lots of other stuff we do on Ibiza. I am not even mentioning drugs and balconing since I don't do these myself and am not qualified to comment.

An 18 years old dying in a hotel is heartbreaking, but it's a necessary price to be paid for 18 year olds to enjoy life to its fullest. Maybe parents should have talked more to him about drugs. I myself didn't have the privilege of going to Ibiza alone at 18 years of age, I am envious of these guys. Good parents will recognize that freedom is important and let their kids travel alone even if it means risk and worries for the parents.

A few years ago, my 73 years old dad went to Greece with even more frail 70-80 years old buddies, chartered a sailing yacht without a skipper and made the seas unsafe (they all did sports sailing in their youth). I didn't even try talking him out of it despite the injury/death risk being much higher than that of an 18 years old on Ibiza - because I knew he would have the time of his life (and he did). When you are worried about losing your loved ones, you are not really caring about them - you are only caring about yourself.

Don't undervalue freedom.
