Missing Madeline

I didn't see it until Sunday and I live in spain not a big news junkie

He watches the news everyday and it hadnt been featured until the Monday evening I think.....or perhaps Tuesday now I think about it.

Crazy really considering neither of us are far from the Portugal border :?

and what is actually achieved by raising awareness anyway.

I think that this was answered by Ibiza_Lou - there seems to be many people living in areas nearby who were not aware. Surely raising the awareness helps increase the chances of Madeline being recognised :?:

i understand the wider point but how exactly are you quantifying "many people" and "areas nearby". lou lives in marbella, so is the whole of spain counted as nearby?? besides, lou's fella found out through the news anyway.

I am a total news freak and read/watch everything everyday....whereas the English girl I work with NEVER reads/watches any news ever and hasnt a clue of anything.....she hadnt even heard about it until recently either....I cant quite understand how she lives like that not knowing ANYTHING (and I promise you she hasnt a clue of any news items) but is happy being like that so each to their own.

Dont really know the point of this post that Ive just written :? but I think Im trying to say.....it doesnt matter who you are or how near or far you are to the situation....not everyone knows. So yes, people do still need to be informed by all means....

i hear you. i don't believe awareness is a bad thing, of course not. a myspace page??:? :? not sure what having a few hundred thousand people hundreds or thousands of miles away will achieve.

anyway we are going around in circles here. back on thread, hopefully this "suspect" will provide some clues.......

I have a bad feeling this story doesn't have a happy ending, I really hope I'm wrong.

I think the same  My criminology background  taught me that if missing children aren't found in the first few hours after they go missing they are rarely found qalive  I can see why the parents are clinging onto every last little bit of hope they have got tho cos that's probably all they have got to keep them going.

It's why I haven't posted on this thread. Every effort that isn't counterproductive is worth a try but I'm not sure global awareness isn't just that.

If people like that know that the whole world is looking for evidence of their crime, logic dictates they'll 'destroy' the evidence. It's almost a diminishing positive effect turning into a evermore negative one as each day goes on.

Really hope I'm wrong:cry:

As for the debate about joining in the publicity effort, the 'buddies-in, online petition signed' nature of internet campaigning instantly gets my back up. But in this instance it's understandable, even if I've had a think and decided not to join in.

buckley has eloquently described my POV on the "awareness" aspect, which i clearly have been unable to elucidate sufficiently enough since LES's post about myspace.

I am saying all over the world and i sure dont hear about all the other kids.
Not sure if this maddie girl is from the uk but if she is maybe thats why 8O

estefania, please exclude Spain from All over the world cos Lou's boyfrend, jaycool and myself dind't know about it until Sunday (or monday in my case when I read about the Virgin guy reward)

It's a very sad situation indeed, but in this cases I always think that media coverage only add more pain to the family or victims with all the nonsense talk, suspicious comments and sensationalism.

i agree sil but the family have decided (or been advised that) an increased media campaign/presence will help.

for example, personal appeals by the parents themselves.

It's up to them, of course, but I hope they know that by increasing media campaing they feed the sensationalism and yellow press, and I'm sure that if you are in the middle of the thing this kind of media is everything but nice and sensitive

I agree grego my space was not the answer. I live about 1 hour 20 minutes away from the border. I hope not, but she could have been in my city in no time at all. I just hope she is returned safe and sound.

I'm not sure whether I agree with the parents actions as I'm not a father nor have I aquired a great deal of parenting skills. However, the circumstances do seem a little dubious and could be construde as neglegent. I see much worse examples of parenting on a daily basis though so it's hard to lay blame on the parents.

As chewie mentioned, this story has become a media circus. Sky were advertising continuous coverage as were many other channels. I cant really see the merit of over publicising the incident in this manner. As Buckley pointed out, this may actually be a detriment to the case as it will encourage the kidnapper to go into hiding or even worse; 'destroy the evidence'.

Whilst it stands as an important lesson to parents I fear that this publicity is creating a mob mentality which is impeding the investigation. Furthermore releasing suspects names causes so many problems. The police have very little to go on and it's understandable they will be making enquiries into the whereabouts of various locals. However, they need to realise that any names released to the press will become victimised by this hysteria driven mob. Not only the suspects are taunted but their families and relatives. Some may argue that they deserve this but what happened to innocent until proven guilty? Many innocent people have their lives ruined because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time. There are never any apologies for the dropped suspects.

were talking about maddie.. were not talking about danielo. stick to the subject :spank:

YOu don't understand the media coverage about maddie. Regulars in this forum don't understand your Danielo coverage. It's not that difficult to understand the paralelism

great post damo.

re: negligence. imagine if in the UK anywhere a couple left a 3 year old and 2 year old twins in their house whilst they went to the pub down the road.........and checked up on them every half hour (supposedly). social services would have the kids in custody in no time.

It's common, amongst the less well to do areas of manchester (aka council estates) for there to be gangs of young kids sat outside pubs of an evening up to closing time whilst their "guadians" drink away their benefit money inside!!!
