I read on a website recently that,

"in cuba they evacuate pets tv's and fridges aswel

And send GP's with everyone, and deliver people to their desired destination rather than holding centres, the doctors have lists of all the medication that everyone being evacuated to their destination needs, and bring back-ups. They have an extensive and personalised system of evacuation, where every householder is told they will have to evacuate soon, and then when it is time their community evacuation officer arrives to tell them the vehicle wil pick them up soon. The system does not rely on electricity at all, as an extensive network of runners is used to spread the information.

The system is amazing, and evacuation is cumpolsary."

Truly a shame America did not adapt a system like this.

It's a little easier to do that when you're talking about one island.

Truly a shame America did not adapt a system like this.

Agreed... some lives prolly could have been saved. Not everyone in the area had been paying attention to (or had) TV's or internet, but lots had radios or at least a newspaper This system is much more organized and would prolly prevent mass hysteria in the future.

N8, you're out of line on this one. Even if you'd didn't pay attention to the fact that Paddy works with disabled people and just had one of his charges die, I'd hope you'd be a little more sensitive.

If you're talking about bottled water and food, I think there might be some justification.

Being left to fend for themselves (no food, no water, no medication), they have to "loot" to survive. I find Bush's obsession with looters disgusting - focus his attention on something else. And the racial leifmotifs disgusting.
Where I disagree with you Morbyd is your response to the Cuba post. Sure it's an island (a pretty big one), but that is not the point. The point is that Cuba appears to ensure the safety of its average citizen under such circumstances better than the US does. Yes, Cuba is smaller, but it is also a heck of alot poorer.

The whole commmunity had contributed to and built up that thread which was one of the best ones on here for a long time. Blame to the mods as well if that is the case. If it is the case then i think paddy should apologise for ruining the discussion.

I actually don't think paddy is right at all (about the thread being edleted because of him complaining about the pic) and is being a bit self important, and would like to believe that the mods would not delete a whole thread just because one post offended someone (and that wasn't on purpose, and the poster had apologised).
