thanks for your help guys (including Robder ;) )

think the most practical solution is to up the ante on the old cardio, to be fair I have probably been operating within the comfort zone lately :(

we shall see

will defo give the yoga a try though!! ;)

Also remember jjinit that diet plays the biggest part in fat loss.

Get your diet sorted and you'll see the benefit in no time. If you want any help with that PM me.

;)

A regular & disciplined Astanga yoga practice with a decent teacher will ensure the weight falls off in no time. Forget Cardio!

theres a beginners yoga class at my gym tonight, 7-8pm...is it worth going?? how many times a week do you need it to be effective?? and would a couple of yoga classes a week along with my normal routine help??

I've being doing an ashtanga yoga class once a week at Greens gym recently and I'd really recommend it - the feeling of general well-being afterwards is something like I've never felt with any other exercise. And boy do you perspire. To be effective though I believe you should do it at least 2 or ideally 3 times a week. Definitely worth trying.

I reckon diets the hardest bit for me to be really disciplined about (oh and booze..) in my fitness regime. Its the bloody most important bit too!

Any chance of a few Qs Drew?

Definately not. 8O

Gym yoga classes are sh*te...for starters you'll be doing a really relaxing form - there are so many types of yoga out there.
Also, gym types tend to be fond of pushing themselves too far which makes for a really ego driven class which is not nice.

You need a specialised Mysore style Astanga teacher - there will be one somewhere if you search hard enough.

This just ain't the truth - the teacher at my gym teaches yoga all over Cambridge including Greens and while the class is for all levels you very much get out what you put into it. ;)

"Beginner? I see myself as more of an 'intermediate', really..."

CV isn't much good (other than as a warm up) unless you're doing 20-30 minutes per session.

Despite the collosal amount of wine we get through, i'm managing to retain a 32inch waistline. I think the Stir Fry's help a lot.

;)

so 20 mins cross trainer, followed by a 10 min row, then my nornal workout...would do the trick?? :?

Yeah, but i prefer to do CV on it's own so you can put maximum effort in.

Then i generally do weights on the other nights.

Works well so your muscle groups get plenty of rest.

so would you suggest maybe 3 x doing cv warm up & weights
then maybe 2x intense cardio, say 60mins??

Yeah, although i'd only bother with a 5 minute warm up before weights.

That's more of less what i do, plus 50 lengths swimming once a week and 2/3 nights swiss ball abs at home.

You should really do some stretching before weights, which is something i often neglect.

;)

i barely exercise, smoke, and STILL maintain 34inch waist.
I'll do you one better. Mine's 33 inches :D
(with a small potrusion slightly above the waste i.e. a little belly ;) )

My old boss used to proudly go round telling everyone he had a 34 inch waist.

This was obtained by pulling a 34 inch belt so tight it almost sliced him in two. You couldn't see his waist for the displaced belly that was hanging over the top
