IS IT OVER???

1. Space gets roof
2. Sound levels in Space turned down during the day
3. Club atmospheres on a decline since 2002
4. People saying Space is over rated (something it would've been impossible to say in 1999/2000)
5. Bora Bora closing
6. Sa Trinxa - no music after sun down
7. No more DC-10
8. Kumharas/KM5 etc also affected
9. Gee going to Brazil
10. Manumission looking for NYC residency
11. Police just about EVERYWHERE
12. Reports of the island being somewhat quieter
13. Clubs hiking up prices when the Euro came in
14. Sudden law in 2002 that music couldn't be played after 6am or something
15. Rumours that the government are trying to turn Ibiza into St Tropez

I could go on forever but it certainly looks to me that if Ibiza is to go through another period of regeneration then to fully recover it's gonna take at least 10 years.

Cue avalanche of posts:
"Me and my mate had a brilliant time this year blah blah..." (yeah right)

CAN I HAVE EVERYONE'S THOUGHTS PLEASE?

was already thinking that too...

I agree sadly with most of wat you say Robder...

already in 2003 there was much more police driving around, and most of these guys don't look friendly. You almost feel like walking around in a jail instead of feeling like you'll party like never before, it somehow makes me feel uncomfortable.

Bora Bora not be able to play music anymore is just another disapointment to me, the atmosphere of people dancing on a beach, having a great time...gone.

Clearly commercialisation hasn't reached its climax yet; since this year a huge block of appartments if build right across the 'Tantra Café' (Playa d'En Bossa), blocking the nice view to the see you had before...I guess it describes what is happening or will be happening to other places on the island.

Another thing which frustrates me A LOT is since 2003, most bar-personel want tips (except in Space)...Some even get seriously impolite when you try to 'sneak off'. One guy at Privilege even tried to get a 1 euro tip from me, placing his fingers on my change(!)...i almost call this stealing.

Many reasons for me to go to Ibiza are gone, i go on vacation to relax, do things i can't do here in Belgium...have a good time.
There are really nice things to see in Ibiza (Cala Conta, Es Vedra, d'Alt Villa...etc), i'm happy we did that this year, 'cause i don't think i'll go back there...i say this with a little pain in my heart...too bad!

can i ask why you have just joined an ibiza forum then?

join-date

good question hehe...

I first became a member back in 2002 actually, but my account was suspended once because of inactivity (if i remember it correctly ;) )

i joined because there is good info (and experienced people) here about things to see & do in ibiza (other than clubbing and the main tourist places)... :D

these sort of posts really anoy me ;)

i strongly disagree!!!!

the atmospheres this year in clubs were awesome! all the nights i went to, apart from subliminal, and maybe hed kandi (sorry guys) the atmosphere has been electric, and phenomenal. this year has been one of the best in many a yeats fror me.

In my review i did last year, i was very critical and very negative on lots of different levels. But this has been amazing - end of.

me too. I think club atmosphere is much better this year. All the nights i wnet to were great, even Manumission!!
Besides, i think you're overreacting to Bora Bora losing its music lisence. Your only argum, ent is that there are no residents living next to Bora Bora! and totally forget the fact that NOT all tourists in PDB want to party all night. PDB also attracts a big number of older tourists who come with their families and would like to sleep early, especially that this resort have many "cheap" hotels that are not equiped with Air Conditioning.
I think that despite that all of you live in very regulated countries, you tend to forget that Ibiza also has some rules and the island might not overlook them as it does when it comes to use of narcotics.
I liked Bora Bora a lot, but i find it illegal to pump music to the neighbors every day till late in night. I don't think tht the so called "Disco mafia" has anything to do with this accident. All the superclubs are operating at above legal capacity and cannot have more clients even if all the mini clubs are closed.

Club Atmosphere was the best ever this year, including Subliminal and Hed Kandi....perhaps you had a bad crowd when you were there.

Yeah, it is sad, but it is over.
Bora Bora and dc 10 are unique places in the world. They are also going to build a highway which will kill all the nature around.
The thing is that we work very hard during the year, and we deserve Ibiza for vacation. Now we do not even have that

There was an article in some UK newspaper (Sun?) recently about Ibiza, and some dj (again, name slips my mind  ) was quoted very well in it, saying something like "Clubs will come and go, house music will come and go, but the spirit of Ibiza will stay forever".

I agree with that. The island has something special, something I cannot put my finger on, but it will never disappear. And at least it will always be the island that brought house music (and ecstasy) to mainland Europe, so Ibiza has earned its page in history.

I think the atmosphere there was great this year, just sad to see the recent development with everything being so regulated and down-sized :?

Oops  I've upset the moderator!

I didn't mean to pi$$ on your fire, honest!

I'm sure it's all still wonderful out there but I'm certianly not in the minority when thinking this.

*ducks to avoid a missile thrown by Robo*

Contrary to the dvarek, it won't stop me from coming back. It's just that 1999/2000 had at certain magic that recent years have lacked.
2001 was also wonderful but it's been a steady decline ever since (I said 'steady decline', I didn't say 'lost it' or 'sh!t').

I'll run off to my quiet corner now.

i had a fantastic hols there this year
last year was so so in comparison...
what made the big difference was this board...

i would be more than happy to spend a hols at the hotel esVive listening to chilled choons poolside daily
and only going to defected, hed kandi and the space terrace on sunday...
which come to think of it is pretty much what i did do this year..

Bora bora ... yeah thats a shame...
DC10 ... no loss in my book....

its meeting peeps who love house music that makes the place so special for me... wheras back home i am in the minority on that front...

dont like paying a fiver + for a lil bottle of water
but hey on hols you fgotta do what you gotta do

I stand corrected!
You put that very well.

...but you have to see at least some of my points?

Or at least someone has??? :?

Hell, I've just got back from a round the world trip taking in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, NZ & the USA. I found some great places but none that so much as touched Ibiza. If I didn't think it was worth talking about then I wouldn't bother. It's just a piece of friendly criticism.

i work for an actuarial consultancy firm
