I don't know about anyone else on here.... but I'm starting to miss Ibiza already. I just wanted to start a fresh thread where everyone can post their thoughts on the past season, any particular highlights, particularly great parties etc.... Hopefully that can tide me through until May :D

A bit pointless since there's a specific forum for the reviews... Where, by the way, you haven't posted yours yet! ;)

So chop-chop, click on Ibiza Clubbing Reviews and tell us how it was...

I've been missing it since I stepped back in Canada, despite some stuff going wrong.

I will be back next year, I'm hoping July where I can catch Space on a proper night and also enjoy Destino and at least one cheese event at Ushauia!

"So my dear friends, do yourselves a favour, if you're coming to Ibiza next summer, plan at the very least one really big night at Space. Over the past 26 years, for thousands - actually more like millions of us (me very much included) - the club has been like a church; a holy place you go in humility and then release all your sorrow, worries, pain and turn it into positive energy and let it all out dancing the night away. "

^^Very nice write up about Space. I enjoyed it and everything else you wrote! I should have met up with you on my trip but maybe next year.

I never knew Ibiza reached a record level of visitors this year. Also, that Heart venue seems really interesting and it's cool to see some different options. Children of the 80s...when the lineups were initially announced for that it was crazy but I noticed a lot of artists like Ace of Base dropping out. I hope they build on this.

My own thoughts is that Ibiza could be the go to place for ALL things music related spanning over different genres like hip hop and rock and not just relegated to dance (not that I mind that) but I dunno.

Apologies McRackin, I must have missed that thread. I've given my review now.

Some interesting stuff in stivi review. Gives a good overview

A couple of points - not sure why you're so down on beach clubs? Or what you mean by clubs being the 'correct environment' ?! That paragraph doesn't make sense to me

Also, i think the review is perhaps too focused on the popularity of these nights. Fair enough but no mention of changing trends, the music or the actual tunes which really went down a storm or flopped. I'm sure the various djs would give you their summer charts if you ask nicely. Would also be cool to get an idea of the makeup of clientele other than nationality. Male, female, gay, nerdy, older, younger etc. Just a thought anyway. Not being overly critical. I'm sure that took ages to write!

thanks SSA,

I'm not really 'down' on the beach clubs, but my thoughts on the matter are:

- firstly, as an all year round resident, your focus and opinion about various subjects really does change. so...if I go to the beach nowadays, I almost always search for a place with no music at all. as I mention in the piece, I sincerely think the coastline should be more protected of noise than it is currently. what happens in playa d'en bossa with all the beach clubs is simply too much IMO (plus bora bora and ushuaïa too of course).

- then I also think that IF you throw a party at a place like this, it should be an exception. that's what I mean when I say parties in places like these are part of the island's culture - spontaneous gatherings, surprise parties, exceptional events to celebrate something special. but as pointed out, a few places use this very excuse only to then throw as many parties as possible and in this case it's honestly not about the ideology behind it, but the money. simple as that. and in that case, I really do think they should use the clubs, which nowadays have to follow all rules, the noise limits etc. that's why I'm saying it's essentially the correct environment for regular / weekly events. understand what I mean now? but I repeat, I love a cool one-off at an outside venue every now and then.

true, I didn't include a paragraph about tunes, because in the same magazine we have a top tunes piece too. and I also had to leave out music evolution as else the article would have gotten even longer (it's already a bit too long honestly). but what I did mention is that the type of clientele is expanding (bit more mature folk coming than years ago) and that the germans are diminishing while the dutch are coming in hordes. as for m/f ratio and gay/straight ratio, in over a decade I couldn't make out any real change. the only changes that I did notice over the years is that A) there are generally less of the crazy characters around, a bit less colorful trannies etc if that makes sense, so the punters got a bit more 'standard' (which is a bit of a sad thing IMO) and B) that the clientele has gotten far more international. compared to 10 years ago, there are much more overseas tourists on the island than before. mainly usa, brazil, australia and this year I've also noticed lots of indians, pakistani etc. when I started coming to ibiza it was much more european focused and now it's gotten more cosmopolitan.

see I could have written lots more, but I just had to cut at some point. but thanks for the feedback, it's much appreciated and I agree with you those points are also interesting of course!

This is something i have definitely noticed change over the course of the last 15 years, DC10 is one place that you would see all sorts, maybe the change in opening hours and allowing people go to sleep inbetween parties now prevents that level of crazyness! Where as before you would see some right states/weirdos at DC10 and Manumission Carry On!

yeah true, especially circo loco and space daytime (manu carry on, but also troya afters and matinée) were those parties you could see all those characters.

Where can I see these characters now? Is the dream over?

There are still some around, but I do feel that element of Ibiza is lost, somehow the daytime at Ushuaia doesn't quite attract the weird and wonderful characters that Dc10/Space day time would :D

Also, loads more people used to dress up for DC10, fancy dress, weird outfits etc.. I did see some Teletubbies at the closing though lol

I think it is more to do with the increasing commercialisation of the mainstream than the change in hours, though I do think that has played a part. The move of Ibiza to the complete mainstream has brought in a lot of visitors who fly in for four days and don’t “get” the islands true vibe. They have a whirlwind stop of Ushuaia , Café Mambo , Ocean club, and some other well known place , with all the check ins and selfies that go with it. They arnt sober nor still for long enough to hardly take in whats left of the “old” Ibiza feeling that we know. I don’t think the rise of commercialism and this type of visitor fits in well with the more avant garde people who were much more frequent 10-15 years ago. With a lot (most?) of these weekenders they’ve not got the time on the island to have seen how much tolerance of others regardless of appearance has been a trait of Ibiza for many many years. And many of the more ‘unusual’ people have left because of it.
I must admit when I first came to Ibiza the ‘unusual’ people at first where a source of amusement to me. Id not seen anything like that around where I lived. But I quickly learnt that it was these people that were helping to lend the great atmosphere to the island I was enjoying so much. From this I really liked to see them about and party and make contact with them and I believe it really opened my mind further to looking beyond how people looked or dressed

That's pretty much the Trevors Trip I took in the summer. Less the check-ins and selfies.
