thanks SSA,
I'm not really 'down' on the beach clubs, but my thoughts on the matter are:
- firstly, as an all year round resident, your focus and opinion about various subjects really does change. so...if I go to the beach nowadays, I almost always search for a place with no music at all. as I mention in the piece, I sincerely think the coastline should be more protected of noise than it is currently. what happens in playa d'en bossa with all the beach clubs is simply too much IMO (plus bora bora and ushuaïa too of course).
- then I also think that IF you throw a party at a place like this, it should be an exception. that's what I mean when I say parties in places like these are part of the island's culture - spontaneous gatherings, surprise parties, exceptional events to celebrate something special. but as pointed out, a few places use this very excuse only to then throw as many parties as possible and in this case it's honestly not about the ideology behind it, but the money. simple as that. and in that case, I really do think they should use the clubs, which nowadays have to follow all rules, the noise limits etc. that's why I'm saying it's essentially the correct environment for regular / weekly events. understand what I mean now? but I repeat, I love a cool one-off at an outside venue every now and then.
true, I didn't include a paragraph about tunes, because in the same magazine we have a top tunes piece too. and I also had to leave out music evolution as else the article would have gotten even longer (it's already a bit too long honestly). but what I did mention is that the type of clientele is expanding (bit more mature folk coming than years ago) and that the germans are diminishing while the dutch are coming in hordes. as for m/f ratio and gay/straight ratio, in over a decade I couldn't make out any real change. the only changes that I did notice over the years is that A) there are generally less of the crazy characters around, a bit less colorful trannies etc if that makes sense, so the punters got a bit more 'standard' (which is a bit of a sad thing IMO) and B) that the clientele has gotten far more international. compared to 10 years ago, there are much more overseas tourists on the island than before. mainly usa, brazil, australia and this year I've also noticed lots of indians, pakistani etc. when I started coming to ibiza it was much more european focused and now it's gotten more cosmopolitan.
see I could have written lots more, but I just had to cut at some point. but thanks for the feedback, it's much appreciated and I agree with you those points are also interesting of course!
