Ibiza Season Review - 2015

true words. made me think though, hasn't that happenend to the whole scene? if I think back to my very first raves 20 years ago, the characters and clothes were certainly also much more outrageous than what I see today (apart from inside berghain maybe). what's everyone's thoughts on this? we're getting a bit off topic here, but I for one think that because electronic dance music has grown so much and turned mainstream, it also attracts mainstream people, in ibiza and elsewhere around the globe

Yeah, definitely. Even a decade ago, the Trevors would probably have chosen elsewhere for a stag do, but Ibiza has been the stag destination of choice for two of them in a year. These are the same lads I've been to Vegas on stags with, so clearly not the Ibiza punters of old.

But what can you do, capitalism breeds whatever product is popular and the pull to the middle ground puts off the freaks and the misfits.

I also think the rise of pub-grub cocaine use among non-clubbers has made a 'drug destination' more attractive to non-clubbers. When Ibiza was (nearly) all Es and rave, those people might not have considered it.

That's pretty much the Trevors Trip I took in the summer. Less the check-ins and selfies.

We did it ourselves in 2013, I was on a Trevors trip myself, and the stag (despite being a bit of a veteran himself) wanted to do these places - I think as much to please the non-clubbers (majority) on the trip. I was pushing for some more "Ibiza" places but I got shouted down! Id say 90% of girls from Liverpool seem to do just those places - well it seems from my FB anyway!

I miss the freaks. They're dying out. It's not just ibiza, it's everywhere London, NYC. there's just fewer interesting people around.

You still get a few on Venice Beach though. Special fondness for the rasta poet on roller skates who tried to convince me that 9/11 'was an inside job'

90% of the Liverpool girls think Ibiza IS Ocean Club

The internet & globalisation.

There's no secrets anymore. That has democratised the world and made tourism easy but it's killing what was special. Everyone wants to feel like they're in on a secret. Unfortunately you can't uninvent the internet
