Ibiza or Las Vegas.. where is the REAL party at?

^^ ... and everyone is flashing the most cash and generally being the creepiest - naturally :rolleyes:

I would gladly see Ibiza lose business to Cras Vegas if it meant the toolsuckers who pay to stand and watch Pauly D ( the mushroom headed fecker form jersey shore and according to one poll the worlds highest paid DJ ) preferred to opt out of Ibiza... Only hope it takes 5 years!!! Just saying like..

It can't be a party if Guetta's not playing to a roped-off VIP area which takes up half the club.. Why would Ibiza be losing business to Vegas, considering they're both so far apart? Can you wear a vest in Vegas clubs? ;)

Is he really a DJ that people pay to see? Never knew that  and the highest paid as well? People really are bonkers!

What's his genre?

Been to Vegas last year and it was fun! Just it... but no soul, atmosphere and anticipation like on the white island! It doesn`t even come close to Ibiza! Just a place which wants your hard earned money with no respect to the music and the crowd!

I've been to Vegas many many times and have stayed at the various resorts, partied at the clubs, and even went to EDC the first two years it was in Vegas. Although I always have a ton of fun in Vegas, it still seems like a place where everyone goes to try to impress one another rather than have a good time. I'm not the type that lets other people bother my good time but it is something I have noticed.

The thing i loved about Ibiza was the people more than anything. Everyone that we met was fun and was there for the same reason as you are. The fact that it is on an amazingly beautiful island is just icing on the cake!

This is not even a question! And just for the record i techno.

Now. Why is this thread even allowed to stand?

I have literaty been trying to study the taste buds of americans. And while they do something awful and they just simply get it SO wrong !! They also do a lot of things that are better... Sorry to side track the argument but ibiza is amazing for dance music period. The usa however has an amazing and thriving indie scene...rock and roll was born there . Honestly I dunno what ibiza rocks stands for.... And this sounds blunt so be it. I have seen the line up is weak! So when I come there what really pisses off my minimal punk side is ibiza rocks... I am a visionary , seriously and I know my fair share of indie pop and dance music. Fact vegas is crass
Ibiza is hugely fun! When it comes to music and social scene.
Fact (like carl cox fact) vegas is for flaunting , ibiza houses flaunting but it includes other modus vivendi.
Fact (F.A.C.T) americans in general have a higher propensity to spend in crap if they are at home and if it means to flaunt. That is part of the capitalist machine ....crap sells and people prob know it. They just buy to prove they have money , taste goes out the window.
I have very goof taste in music ibiza rules for techno but it could rule more.
Vegas is good for recreating scenes of bugsy. Ibiza is prob going to also house this american style of partying...flaunting obnoxious music etc....in the end ibiza rules dont they have a casino outside of ushuaia near the bus stop??

I remember walking past it.

Ibiza is the social backyard of europe and prob the world.

Vegas is novelty city.

Ibiza Rocks is only as good as the bands that are around at the moment or the classic bands (e.g. New Order) they can get to play. I'd argue guitar music is pretty boring these days, but when there are decent bands around IR will book some of them. The great LCD Soundsystem played there a few years back. If there is a band you like, or even one that you don't hate, playing there, it is a good venue. I saw Biffy Clyro there a few years ago; not really my thing (despite being local boys!), but it was still a good night. Personally, I think IR works better when the band does have some slight dance element; I generally don't find heavy rock 'Balearic' at all. :p

Came up on this article the other day...
http://www.irishtimes.com/blogs/ont...-not-ibiza-is-where-superstar-djs-want-to-be/

Tell me what your opinion is on this: Have you been to both places before? Do you believe that Ibiza is losing business to Vegas? Which will be on top 5 years from now?

My opinion: I'll update this once I get back from Ibiza for my first time! (July 3rd-7th). Can't wait!!!

Is this a genuine question?

If so - Vegas is the scourge of the universe.

Ibiza wins - but only from a rose coloured specs point of view - too may VIP areas for my liking these days.

Very good point mofle! I've been to Vegas but never over the age 21, it seems Ibiza is more of a carefree environment. Everyone who goes to Ibiza knows exactly why they're going, Vegas is a different world not really dedicated to only dancing & music.

Ok to make long things a bit more to the point:

I think the artist that I could see at IR are :

James Blake... Can anyone tell me why he has not been booked? - the guy is basically propelling part of the dance scene into something progressive. He has given dubby house vocals and bit more linear purpose. How is he not dance enough?

Rhianna , beyonce, alicia keys and ciara .. at leat one of them should play at IR. Rock and roll come from soulful music. So I dunno why you can't have any of these awesomely talented girls sing .... are you kidding me? - they will not sell out? Maybe ciara might need a bit of help.

other bands that seriously should play at IR

iceage - enough said. poppy punk. It is not full on punk destroy the whole crowd and sign to the demonds. Yes they have pagan symbols and have been linked fascist symbols too... but they are not! it is pop, it is punk... they are more like a modern day joy division.

cults- good stage presence and they make short sets and sweet music. Great opener.

Sky Ferreira - yea she has one single but it was the indie single of the freaking year 2012 best song indie pop tune.
hello?

As for black - hip hop acts. The most poppy acts right now would probably be:
Danny brown and A$ap rocky.

This is just a short list and a very picky list.

How can you justify fitting london grammar, foals, aluna george and franz ferdinand and call it great line up?

first there is hardly no north american presence and these acts that I have just mentioned have pretty global appeal.

I could throw on a couple of more.. but as far as being hot and probably "cool" at the moment they certainly would attract enough attention along the already booked talent.

I hope you see my point. No offence to the brit line up.. but I remember last year... kasabian???

maybe I am too north american... but honestly I do not mind the dance acts in ibiza.

I like James Blake and I've seen him live, but his music is more introspective than euphoric. Not sure he'd work as a main act at IR!

"Rhianna , beyonce" Those ladies play stadiums. I don't think you could expect them to play a smallish venue like IR.

Dunno much about Foals, but AFAIK they're seen as a credible indie/dance band. Sasha remixed one of their tunes for Involvr3. Aluna George, I like what i've heard of - decent urban/electro act. Not a huge fan of Franz Ferdinand but they've been undeniably big in the UK.

Kasabian are okay and huge in the UK. If they were playing while I was there, i'd go see them. They're in the same 'indie with a bit of dance tradition' as Primal Scream and I can see why that would go down well at IR. Do you know early tunes like Clubfoot and LSF?
