Ibiza or Las Vegas.. where is the REAL party at?

Hey man, James blake is really underated ... as are probably a lot of the other artist that I have mentioned up there when it comes to stage presence and pull even by I.R. standards.

I vaguely remember club foot and their other songs.

Honestly I can see improvement for the line up this year. That is just my opinion however.

Definitely agree there's not much there to grab attention, but for me that reflects the state of music generally or possibly I'm just a cynical old fart? (I can only think of a couple of albums I've enjoyed all the way through so far this year.) I think it goes back to IR mainly trying to attract a young British audience, hence the 'radio 1' type acts.

Trust me... I have been to Vegas more times than I care to count, and have been at least once a year over the past 4 years, partying in the "hottest" clubs of the moment and the pool parties... But, honestly, it is pathetic... no vibe... and I'm sorry... but Americans (or at least those in Vegas... and other US cities I've experience) just don't know how to let loose and party!!! AND I'M AN AMERICAN!!! Ibiza is a way of life, a frame of mind, a place where everyone is in to have a good time, regardless of age, gender, race, body type, hair colour, nose ornaments, etc... Check out any Vegas club website... "No athletic shoes" and other "Proper attire" BS!!! No thanks... I could never imagine spending more than a quick weekend in Vegas... I could easily imagine a whole life in Ibiza!!!

I think that sums it up pretty well actually. The two can never be compared and it's a real shame to see Ibiza trying to emulate things from a completely different culture, all driven by more and more greed.

The more of its identity the island loses the less of an attractive place it will become to visit and live in. For the 4 months of the year it lives off anyhow. Good quality but non-glitterati tourism, centred around both the music and non-music scenes is far more enduring than the fly-by-night fickle antics of a few big names of the moment and the scenesters who hang around them.

I've been I've been to both many times and am actually heading to Vegas again next week. Vegas has certainly caught on that dance DJ's are where the money is over the past 5 years. Hakkasan and Light (also have a look at daylight beach club, modelled on Ushuaia http://www.daylightvegas.com/) are opening next week (new megaclubs dedicated to dance with big name residents). The clubs have all the lighting, features etc.

Having said that, they're so different. Compare Amnesia to XS and they're worlds apart. Completely different vibes. Ibiza is all about the music, the experience, the social aspect. Vegas is about flashing the cash for bottle service, guys spending money to impress women…all about the image (which isn't surprising considering it's in America).

Personally I think there's a time and a place for both. Nowhere will ever replicate Ibiza, and I hope it doesn't move too much further towards Vegas with the VIP areas more and more space.

Thanks god there is something like LV who takes all the crap.
If there are people who like to pay a lot for pre-recorded zombie sets, so let them be.
It's time for evolution and Ibiza can only win. The old road was dead-end.

Been to both places many times and you cant compare. IBIZA hands down wins party wise
but yaa if you wanna gamble then vegas it isl

I'm American and I've been to Vegas a few times. It's not even comparable. Don't get me wrong, Vegas is a good time, but for different reasons. The mixture between gambling, pool parties, great food and hot chicks is pretty awesome. The downside is that the place is full of basic Americans and the parties are just so painfully cheesy. The music is absolutely horrible and the parties have no vibe. It's incredibly easy to hookup tho and there are a ton of hot chicks....although they all have that similar american porn star look.....so even I think Ibiza wins the female battle. So yea, Ibiza pretty much blows it out of the water, although I think Ibiza's strict daytime partying rules hurt it.

I think on IBIZA spotlight you may get an overall biased opinion haha....but Ibiza still wins by a country mile.

A wee snippet of an interview with Digweed which I think sums it up:

You've played in Ibiza for many years. A lot of people are starting to compare Ibiza to what's going on in Las Vegas? What do you think of that?
Everyone's always trying to find the new Ibiza but they wont, because there's only one Ibiza, and it works and will continue to do so because it's so purpose-built. It has the best clubs, the best beaches, the best restaurants, so if you want to go there and go crazy for five to six nights in a row you can, or you can sit on the beach and do nothing. There's something for everyone and you're not tied in to what you want to do. Over the years the scene has changed a bit, sometimes its more commercial and sometimes it's more underground. You can go listen to Richie Hawtin or David Guetta.

I've played in vegas a couple times and it's been OK. It's definitely geared more towards the tourist crowds. Will there ever be a really cool and credible underground club in Vegas? I think it's going to take a lot of work. There's such a transient crowd there, so it will be hard to build such a real following for the underground. I think it will be something that will probably take place on a Monday night and will be for people who don't want to hear a record they know for five hours. For me, it seems like Vegas is more of a business and they're there to make money. I don't see them wanting to take a risk on something that's not dead set.

Will be going to Vegas for my 4th time this year and the clubbing is nothing compared to Ibiza. I wouldn't say it even came close.

Unless you're a massive EDM fan!

The things Vegas will never have, are the fabulous beaches of Ibiza!
