Ibiza...is it so quiet this year???

Ibiza.....is it the END ALL BE ALL??? I mean REALLY??

I have to say.....as MUCH as i love Ibiza....there should be other spots like this more. I know there is some other "party" places, but something close to Ibiza would be nice. Mykonos, for example? A French island. Or an island off of Portugal......i dunno.....just musing here. I dont' get to go to Ibiza, and lord knows it is so expensive now from the U.S. Of course we have fun spots such as Miami, but that is the biggest. I would just like to have the "Ibiza" atmosphere somewhere else in the world that is all. (and preferabley closer to me!

I'm sure if the bad news continues somewhere will catch on and a new clubbing location will begin! Although, I believe the history of the island plays a big part in it's atmosphere, thats one thing that can't be replaced.

it would be my dream if the after hours opens up again... my dream... ha ha!

seriously though, this is what they want evil, drug-fueled youngsters will go elsewhere .. lots of people are doing this so they are getting exactly what they want.

Yeah it looks like that way but where else are they going? Ibiza has it all, nowhere else like it in the World IMO! It will be interesting to see if the change in clubbing legislation is questioned when the tourist figures are down at the end of the season :x (if they are)

On the other hand, maybe if they get rid of the minority, hopefullly it will put an end to the constant restrictions and closures!!!!

you'd think they could at least get the opening hours pushed back to noon.. :spank:

or at least on the weekend for matinee 8)

Guess this is the report whe've been waiting for the last few days and shoudn't come as much suprise to anyone. Does the governmet really don't see the link between the clubbing legislation and decrease in number of days staid? Looking at the trip reports it seem like more people(/clubbers) use Ibiza as a break for a party than a proper vacation this year than eariler.
I usually stay between a week or two. This year I headed down for the WLS opening, DC10, Cocoon and headed back on Tuesday. When I have been earlier I haven't been at more than 2 (4) parties over 1 (2) weeks. This year I did just as much partying but skipped everything else as more police, no beach music(!) and stricter rules in general isn't exactly attractive for a holiday destination (and PDB is turning into a dump).

i'm not quite sure how the length of stays in may has been impacted by the new clubbing hours - i think i'm right in saying that only a couple of clubs were open by the end of the month. what i can say is that because of the bad weather many many spanish holidaymakers cut short their hols and went home!

what i can also tell you is that the average stay in days has been falling over the last 5 years to 10.7 days as traditional 14 night package holidays have been supplemented by weekend breaks and shorter stays courtesy of the budget airlines. interestingly ibiza still has the highest average of the balearic islands.

none of these figures distinguish between what "type" of tourists are visiting, either. I thought it was really busy with clubbers when I went to San An, but for example over in Es Cana it might be really quiet with decreased family holidaymakers.

looking at those reports it would be difficult to pin the blame on the new opening hours and legislation that's in place. further to that, the no after hours decision and closire of dc10 wasn't made long enough ago to have an effect on tourist numbers. the decline is simply down to downturns in both spanish and uk economies.

also that excuse about the companies merging seems a load of old tosh. ibiza is more attractive to the independent traveller, so numbers with those companies in question would be less attractive than other the islands.

it's amazing how distorted figures can become.

might is a word we shouldn't really use in a statistical analysis.

as regards the type of tourist ibiza receives i can tell you with some certainty that the age make up is more or less exactly the same over the year in ibiza, menorca and mallorca.

i'm working on the assumption that age is more than just a number and that clubbers might possibly be all around the same age group?

so true

"Lies, damned lies, and statistics" is part of a phrase attributed to Benjamin Disraeli and popularized in the United States by Mark Twain: "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics." The semi-ironic statement refers to the persuasive power of numbers, and succinctly describes how even accurate statistics can be used to bolster inaccurate arguments.

thank wiki for that!

...
it´s probably not as simple as you assume -
there are f.e. people, who didn´t forgot what the consell did to them
last year with the unexpected closing of amnesia/dc10/borabora ...
... and who didn´t wanted to be fooled a second time ...

and when you do some research here in the forum in the regard of what decision
was made at what time you will find out that these new "afterhours"laws
were passed early enough to prevent short-term holidaymakers.

I agree entirely. I was hesitant to return after last year. I can say that IF I return next year, it will not be till the end of the season to avoid all these stupid closures. Mind you saying that, it all depends on what this holiday brings. From what i have been reading on all of these forums, I don't think i have ever been so un-enthused about coming to Ibiza....

if you are un-enthused with FOUR !!!! exclamation marks i wouldn't like to see what you're like when you're un-un-enthused!!

ouch, poor things.

i don't want to enter into a debate over it as my knowledge of the travel industry is limited. needless to say, i disagree with what you're saying. the changes were made (i think intentionally) at a time when holidays had already been booked.

I agree totally...because of the very bad (clubbing) news i haven`t booked the Ibiza trip yet...:spank:...and i know further people, wo haven`t booked their Ibizatrip either.

Unless they know they get their full (DC10)clubbing-package.
In the long run the people know what`s going on...:spank:
The strategy of the Ibiza politicians will fail dramatically in economic matters...
That`s the only language these sort of people understand.
Meanwhile u have much more (afterhours/clubbing) liberty/options here in Germany...i.e. Berlin...;)

Mykonos is lovely, Cavo Paradiso is possibly the best club in the world at its best and there's a few other clubs too. The beaches are lovely and sceneries great, there are many great hotels, Mykonos town is very good for shopping, drinks and food, there's also a Nobu... It's not as 'focused' as Ibiza and there's a lot of people there who won't be going out, there isn't as much variation in the night life, most people in Cavo for example are either Greek or Italian but it's defo worth a try.

I plan to go to mykonos in the very near future, just finished researching the best options. i can only find one direct flight per week from Manchester though. How expensive is it compared to Ibiza? also where would you recommend staying? Thanks

Mykonos is a **** hole compared to Ibiza...
only one big club Cavo Paradiso...full of arrogant Italians and more expensive than Ibiza.
