A lot of truth in this imo.

Camelphat strike me as a manufactured partnership developed for the current generation of young people that are very, very social media savvy, want to be seen and want something that is a bit cooler than edm. They didn’t pull in massive numbers at Ushuaia to any extent. But they are clearly able to produce and have to take credit for a crossover commercial hit. However, when I look at what they play, where they play, how they look and how they present themselves on social media, they just strike me as an exceptionally well managed brand that a clever marketeer has jumped on.
i'm not sure you can say at all that they are a manufactured partnership. Mike and Dave have been mates for years and years.

genuine question, what is the point then?

how do you see them different compared to say adriatique or tale of us? or even solardo.

maybe I'm simply not getting it?
I see them as very similar to Solardo. I’ve covered why I think they are a manufactured brand earlier so I’m not going to go over that again. Being ‘mates’ and playing together for a long time does not mean they haven’t been owned and manufactured. They aren’t alone, there are plenty of them around. You know this.

But they are obviously talented too. They can produce and dj and have a strong work ethic with a big social media following. But if you think di Scala wants to be playing and making camelphat style music, I think that wouldn’t be correct.

It’s very clear that they have been rebranded since the Matutes took them onboard. They had very little headline exposure on any scale before that. But the Matutes and their management have grown their brand image and style since they opened hi and camelphat opened for Prydz. They went on to get a hit record after that which they hadn’t had before. And they moved into the headline space after being cultivated.

Anyway, at least it creates debate while we await news!

But if your point is that they are 'manufactured' is based entirely on the fact that you feel MDS would prefer to be making/playing a different style of music, couldn't that point be aimed at a huge amount of DJ's and producers? Those that change the style they play or music they make to fit in with current tastes cos they want to remain popular.........

Not saying i disagree with what you are saying, i just think that the reason why you think are manufactured actually applies to a huge amount of other acts....

It could yes. My goodness, there have been so many bandwagon jumpers over the years. We are about to see the return of the biggest one of all this summer. Just updated my post above to give a bit more context pal.

a certain Dutch dude who likes Las Vegas?

I get the context you have added, i would say that i think that have been huge in the UK for a decent period of time now.....

Yeah, him!

I don’t think camelphat have been huge anywhere until the Matutes got their claws into them, gave them opportunities, cultivated their style and image. Then after all that they managed to timely knock out a commercial hit to boot.

This is a common story though. At least they have talent and ability. The same cant be said for some others given opportunities.

I think this is one thing we can all agree on! My view (for what it's worth) is I think their sound will definitely change more this coming summer. I think they need a proper "night" residency to get more creative. Doing a 9pm-11pm Ushuaia set every week must be pretty repetitive when you know you have to deliver big-room only for those 2 hours.

Yeah. It will be interesting to see how they develop their sound now that they are no longer with their career sponsor. It’s a massive opportunity. A Pacha residency has made many djs. While I wouldn’t say it has broken other DJs, there are certainly more than a few around that haven’t taken advantage of the opportunity that may have been expected. Ibiza residency moves are always interesting imo

Does it matter what the provenence of something is as long as you think it sounds good/you enjoy it? Branding has a lot to answer for, bring back white labels!
