was just never into the records he played, even the early rave years there were others doing it better imo

the yanks and germans did techno so much better than anyone else and mixed it up more

but I do respect his longevity and enthusiasm. He never seemed cynical which is a real rarity in the grubby dance world

best to do what exactly? bludgeon you into submission?
Yeah, and what’s wrong with that if people like that brand of techno? People have their favourite djs from the past and some of them endure and stand the test of time without reinventing themselves. Cox was one. He was recently packing out Ku (see what I did there 😉) and until this year was very active on the island so asking where he is is legitimate question.

I don't preach at anyone. 90% of the music I champion on here goes in one solitary thread. I just think it's a bit sad that people still cling on to these bedblocking dinosaurs but horses, courses whatever.

Depends what you like, doesn’t it? A lot of folk will continue to follow the djs they enjoyed most in their youth. Coxy remained current so he was very relevant to a younger crowd. Not many djs can do that, it’s a real skill. A lot of more mature clubbers also struggle to relate to many ‘new’ djs and sounds.

I'm not totally naive. I get that there's a business model which = safety first = bums on seats = reliable big names people know. Makes total sense.

But the old timers, Cox, Tong and that whole incestuous retro circus end up turning dance music into a heritage marquee, no different to US FM radio which has not knowingly broken any new music in 25 years. And where's the creativity, innovation and ambition in that? What is the actual point of Chocolate Orange. It's like School Disco. Everyone pretending they're not some middle aged lard arse?

The people in Ibiza it seems to me (looking in from outside admittedly) who are taking risks are Storytellers, OpenLab and some of the Chinois parties. Or Homies playing amazing music every single time. Maybe they'll all die on their arse, but give me 100 people having an amazing time to 1000 going through the motions

Just been to check the listings for this and there's no dates listed beyond tomorrow night. Has anything happened to the night? There were listings there previously (OpenLab IS page)

amazed to see people still asking about Cox on here. What is this timewarp people never emerge from?

I'm not a big fan of his but he's had a huge presence on the island until this year, so just wondering why he had the sudden drop off. I saw him last at Resistance Ibiza 2019 for his last 30 mins and he was surprisingly playing really well but I've seen him a bunch of other times in ibiza and beyond with mixed results

Yeah, I went earlier in summer. Its a good night musically and not overly rammed, but not dead neither. If you like the artists on the bill, you should go. Ida never let's me down tbh
@Nivektyl Exactly what @W_I_C says here. I also really enjoyed it and it was perfect to dance not too busy so you can easily get to the bar and toilet but the dance floor is full. Same for Franky Wah at Chinois. Make sure you either wear proper clothing if you're on the guestlist though. I totally forgot about the dresscode but I managed to get inside with linnen shorts but a group in front of me were denied entry because they were a little more informal shorts. Anyways try it out I had a great evening!

Chocolate orange?! 😂.

When you are a middle aged lard arse, you may find you want to enjoy listening again to the music from the best time times of your life.

It’s not all about taking risks. It’s about having a good time.

There is plenty of variety for everyone in Ibiza. More so than ever before.

I'm not in the Clockwork Orange age range, more of a late 00s/early10s man myself but I think it's nice that people have something to be a part of and relive the good times.

It also happens just before peak season so brings some good crowds to venues who may otherwise just have an average sized crowd in.
