I'd like to know the real story behind Pyramid's lineups...the 2 in June were great but rest minus Diynamic and Carl Cox are kinda eh. Was this there idea of trying to attract a more VIP crowd?

What did you expect? A brand new night, going up against one of the strongest on the island. It must be hard enough for any night to find the balance between being ambitious/paying fees and attracting enough punters.

Re the VIP, I didnt appreciate until this year quite how many came just to be seen in Ibiza , but now it looks like a lot of the people that used to pack out the terrace for Marco Carolla are now in Mykonos.

Its been said plenty of times, but compared to the last 3/4 year's Ibiza feels strangely quiet this year. I think the next 2 years is going to see a long over due market correction.

Ibiza desperately needs to recover good quality, accessible, outdoor music.

interesting post. I wouldn't really associate the term "clubbing soul" with anywhere anymore tbh, certainly not in season, which is why my ambition is to go to iBZ in the cooler months when it seems from what I've heard that things are less money-driven and more interesting music-wise. FWIW I also think it is a bit unfair to be too harsh on Circo because they do at least get some credible DJs in but who I imagine they feel obliged to balance out to keep the bean counters happy... capitalism sucks, eh?

True, I dont mean to be too harsh on DC10. The observation is more in line with the general perception of the Matutses'esque malignant development of the island, and that somehow DC10 represent something different, when it's far from the truth. They are all one and the same for the most part. DC10 has gentrified as much as anywhere on the island.

@john454 but it's Amnesia dammit. Did they not have confidence in themselves in booking some strong names?

Radio One weekend was crazy busy but yesterday seemed kinda slow again around San An. I heard not even Resistance pulled in the numbers and Together was kinda quiet?

In guessing the Cocoon move to Pacha happened too late in the year for them to program a well thought out lineup. They got some nice names for sure, but most DJs need to be booked 1 year+ in advance.

The biggest disappointment with Pyramid is they came out firing with all this promo about partying like the the old days, but didn’t actually follow through with anything. Not sure what the party’s identity is tbh.

I generally believe its because Ibiza is to expensive. I noticed it was really quiet last week given that its peak season particularly around the sunset strip. Me, wife and our 2 friends paid 48 Euros for 4 cocktails in the café / bar next to enigma (old kanya) that ridiculous when you think of it. These prices are common across Ibiza. Not only that the value for money the hotels ask and the quality of the facilities don't add up. Ibizan hotels are generally poor when you compare them to other places.

I keep going back (4 times to date this year) and spending £1000s each year because I love Ibiza but many other people cant afford to do this or wont.Hopefully prices will begin to fall across the island in the future.

This really isn't that bad a price so 12 euro each? I was out in London last weekend and was paying £13.80 for G&Ts in 2 separate bars! Agreed the island is expensive but so are an awful lot of other places worth going.

The costs all mount up after a week or so and that’s not including taxis, club tickets , meals and other bits I generally think if people are not into clubbing they often decide to go to other destinations. This is what I believe is happening at the moment.

Taxis are another big bit. You can't get around easily by bus to some places or you'd have to really plan it out.

Have I missed something, has Kanya gone and it’s now called Enigma?

especially when nowadays you can see the exact same DJs in cheaper countries and cheaper festivals

Festivals are much worse than Ibiza for short set times...
True. Don't get to see much at festivals..im more into *live* music..lucky the festival here last didn't have dj this and dj that.. but some of the bands done dj sets which for me is more iinteresting and our local lads were playing all weekend. Get down edits, fish go deep, jonny moy,new jackson.. did enjoy black Madonna..

if you're 20 years old, there has been no acid house revolution in your life. dance music has been in the mainstream since your birth.

ibiza is perhaps not as special to you as it is to the oldies.

back in the 80s/90s the ibz clubs were like nothing on else on earth. if superclubs are your thing those structures have been replicated and/or bettered elsewhere.

ibz has also restricted the daytime parties, further reducing its uniqueness. the expense kicks in for most punters

vegas/mykonos/croatia/festivals allow punters to see the djs they like often at lower cost, and sunsets are available all over the world at much cheaper rates in quieter spots

in an ideal world the masses will move on somewhere new soon. a large section of the vips who desperately need the masses to see them in the hotspots will follow them. things go full circle and the island is back in the hands of those who truly love authentic ibiza.

but then matutes drop a 'reggaeton mega arena venue' on salinas beach and its all over for us

Very nice post and couldn't have been better said IMO, and it even finished with a little joke at the end. 10/10 good sir.

Ah I was born way too late eh? I think I might be the youngest poster on the forum this season but it is a great place to get my Ibiza education from the veterans!

I looked at hotels this week to possibly come out for 3 days. Even though flight prices were down absolutely bonkers hotel prices in San An, worse than last year in August, and occupancy very high hard to get a room anywhere with half a chance of a parking space. Whole idea of it was just too stressful and costly to go through with anything. Didn't look to me like things were bad for hotels at all tbh !
