this is exactly the sort of post that makes me want to gouge my eyes out. Have you even heard any of the DJs playing with Black Coffee? Maybe they're great DJs with great record bags? Maybe they have the music to shake Ibiza out of its tech torpor? New music, new skills, new sounds - gotta be a good thing right? Maybe they're all heavy hitters without any hype behind them. But all automatically dismissed because you've never heard of them.... everything that stinks about the safety-first, bums-on-seats, post-millennial music industry summed up right there.

any night that takes creative risks in the current commercial climate is to be embraced and celebrated not slagged off.

Couldn't agree more.

For far too many years these so called "heavy hitters" have stolen a living off name and name only with a few exceptions. Some will rate a set if its good/crap/s**T as long as its who they came to see and more often than not the headliner has been a let down.

I always thought those who knew how to run the dance floor where either residents / locals or even unkowns.

Ulysses - Space Terrace
Cirillo - DC10
Kanzyani - Underground ( up there with one of the best sets i have heard in Ibiza )

Etc etc

The guy I quoted mentioned millennials, I was pointing out it is by no means confined to the millennial generation, as you rightly point out.

And I don't think I'm special at all. I was not the one saying "I don't like these DJs and the music they play, therefore things are dreadful."

I did not say these DJs were Dreadful. I did say Black Coffee was not as good as he used to be. My post was pointing out that for an opening party, I thought the line up could have been better by having more djs added. I'll stick with this statement.

The statement also pointed out how good opening party line ups used to be!!

Agree, although heard someone last year who perform as part of a successful Ibiza collective and they were very poor. How can someone at that level not have great or even decent technical ability?

I'm with you Woodsy. It's not only that Ibiza gets always more expensive - the costs for the bookings become lower. Don't get me wrong, some of these acts are great - but I only pay 40€+ admission in case I have a real heavy lineup. Several of the acts I can have on a regular basis in town, but that's a berlin luxury problem...

Nevertheless... probably it's also my antipathy against hi - I was at last years "Black Coffee Opening". And it was horrible - although Lee Burridge and Henrik Schwarz were on the lineup...

songkick are listing Timo Maas as Zoo Project Tues 3rd July
cannot be ZP as they are supposed to be only sundays

You made a good point on the admission price to mate

Maybe Im wrong : Early Closings this year ( 1 week ? ). I was there in 2017 : A lot was open after the official closings ( Labyrinth , Flower Power ) Maybe the same this year when the weather will be good in October and there are enough people on the island. Full year destination minus 4 months or so.

not sure what you mean with early closings? the top parties will run up to the last week of september / first week of october and both pacha and amnesia will be open until the second weekend of october?

Yes

Flower Power with 2many DJs was a additional date , late in October. The additional date for Labyrinth was also late in Oct. I think it wll be the same this year : Everything will be closed after 14 or 20 of October. We will see additional dates.

solomun+1 will close on 14th october this year which is the same weekend. true, there might not be such a late flower power party - at least not according to current plans. but fact is the season has never been as long as it is nowadays. I still remember when space closed on the last sunday of september - now the last big closings are in the middle of october. that's two weeks more at the end of the season. and the season also starts earlier - space opening used to be last sunday of may. two additional weeks here too.

Maybe in future some Winter dates ? Ok , no beach time , but in November you can sit outside sometimes. I think they will try it in future : Bigger dates outside the season.

I normally go swimming into the sea until end of november / start of december.

from a climate point of view you could easily make ibiza an all year round clubbing destination, but I don't think this will ever happen (and I also don't think it should). the way the global clubbing circuit is working currently is fine IMO - ibiza season until just before ADE, then halloween parties everywhere. then the big DJs soon start their US and south america tours as well as asia gigs...that's from november/december until march (including stuff in tulum, brazil, australia too of course). then it's miami music week second half of march, soon followed by timewarp and before you know it it's IMS time and ibiza is on again.

that said, with the exception of this winter which really was a quiet one because both pacha and sankeys were shut, you do get cool parties here with good DJs in winter too. it's just not the same size of clubs. but as I said, I think it's fine the way it is now with the big clubs opening in may and closing start to middle of october.
