ibiza 2019 observations

I saw a video on Facebook when Adtriatique was playing. Place looked crazy packed, so safe to say it's doing well, as I saw another video from last week looking busy too

I find Adriatique a much better duo than Tale of Us, and i used to love ToU as well but since this 'Afterlife' brand became big their sets became hit or miss. 2015-2017 was great for them, in my opinion. Right now too long breakdowns, too much vocals (don't get me wrong i love vocals when used properly) and sometimes lacking energy. However their Junction 2 set is not bad.

Adriatique have some great tracks, and their sets are almost always great. Hopefully they will have their own nights in the future.

Yes I seen TOU twice last year and was not impressed, Adriatique and mind against much better!

Have found Tale Of Us’ sets pretty meandering and self indulgent for a while now to be fair. Far too many predictable break downs and no ‘ooomph’ in them whatsoever. Dixon does that style far better in my view. They weren’t that bad at Junction 2 though in fairness.

Obviously Dixon delivers better sets compared to ToU, and probably a bit more underground (relatively) than ToU, but Afterlife is a brand now and that guy hanging from the ceiling gives them the 'cool' factor. It's a bit of marketing, and ToU is quite good at that to be honest. They are quite talented though, i will still go to an all night long set from them, but will pass on Afterlife events.

I don't care if room is not packed ,Heart is a small club, along Wally Lopez party Classic nights it was very empty ,can t wait for Aug 8th Matkub Satori
All mass ?will be at Hi ibz

That Saturday is good in Ibiza ?
David Morales Blue Marlin
the smen at pure pacha party.

Observation : Heart has a good balanced Soundsystem. Pacha for example has too much Bass The system is clipping sometimes. Normally the pacha system is state of the Art Dont know what they do this year.

Why obviously? I regard them as playing completely different music and tou are far more relevant across the world right now and it’s been that case for a couple of years. I agree with the rest of what you say.

There really is a lot of pretentiousness from Ibiza stalwarts on this thread.

It wasn’t that long ago that no club opened seven nights a week. And during that period they mixed up underground nights with commercial, garage, water parties, foam parties, retro and other events. This continued when seven night a week opening became the norm.

There is nothing wrong with variety. In fact it is absolutely right that a club will seek to attract a cross section of people with different musical taste, and a variety of ages. It keeps the music scene on the island moving. It keeps the clubs busy. It is an entry point to more underground sounds. The reality is that the old timers liking what they liked 10-20 years ago are the minority when it comes to clubbing and that includes ibiza. I’m as guilty as anyone.

Ibiza is meant to be fun. It’s not an underground navel gazing exercise. If you want that go to Berlin on holiday. But don’t be disappointed if you don’t get in because you aren’t cool enough.

I mean it all comes down to personal taste maybe but i do not put relevance in the world as a factor when comparing sets and music. If that was the case Calvin Harris would be the best in the world probably :) .

But you are right, different styles, ToU has a more accessible music style, and as a person who saw ToU 5+ times and Dixon around 10 times, i think ToU changed their style for that mass appeal and Dixon did not.

By the way, Solomun is the master about that path. Check his sets 2013-2014 and today, you will see the mass appeal change. But as i said, it all comes down to personal taste and i still enjoy them to some extend as well.

just back from dixon (transmoderna) at pacha. I‘m sure tale of us being the guests helped, but tonight it was perfectly busy. for me personally the kind of busy you want - dancefloor full but with just the right amount of space to dance. only got v little of tou but liked dixon‘s start.

I‘ll go back soon for sure

Not Ibiza related really, but I've seen in the past 24 hours that ASAP Rocky has had to cancel his Sonar appearance because he's been arrested in Sweden.
And his replacement is... Stormzy!
Obviously the trouble here hasn't put them off. Though I guess the fact it's a last minute booking means it's unlikely to be infiltrated with the gang crowd.
I hadn't even realised they were booking urban artists until those headlines.
