ibiza 2019 observations

Stivi correct as always. Did I spy @white_isle_calling in there reporting?

Where was this? SHINE?

Here's my observations from last night: It was quieter than Toolroom opening with the same set-up - right hand side of the venue partitioned-off. It still filled to a good level, peaking between 02:45-03:15 (Paul van Dyk on at 03:00). Crowd-wise, it was a good mix of ages and I would say a 60/40 split between hardcore trance heads and more casual observers. Lots of blonde, Scandi features made me think there was a high northern European turnout.

Musically, trance obviously isn't my thing. But I have to say, I did quite get into the middle hour of Aly & Fila's (or one of them - are there two? Not sure, but he was bald if that narrows it down) set. It was darker than I was expecting and at this point and - being the warm-up - still around the 120bpm mark. If you were blind, you definitely could've mistaken this for being Afterlife!!

However, around 2:00 the bpm cranked up and vocals started getting added and by the time PvD was on, it was full fanfare with cheesey lyrics, CO2 and lasers. Gave him an hour. He mostly played his own stuff.

Also got to say, this is the most fun crowd I've seen this summer. Jaws swinging, drinks being spilled, youngsters vomiting in corners and people being escorted out for removing their tops/being too inebriated. If not the music, then the scenes of unadulterated fun and general tomfoolery reminded me of going clubbing at 18.

I'm not a trance convert - but I think I'll go back again later in the summer for a bit of a laugh.

I'm guessing any official review to go up on the website will be slightly different in tone ? sounds good fun though!

from early 90s onwards it was 4/4 all the way in all the major clubs (am I right?) Until Jade Jagger did her hiphop night at Pacha, had anyone else really been there?

Yeah, but I think a lot of us would have liked to have experienced it before then. :) Maybe some did?

We can all sit here with our elderly hats and criticise the youth but part of me is extremely jealous of those just starting out and being able to still do this. Far better they are going to some like PVD than some of the mindless dross that's passed off as "underground".

Excellent to hear that there are still some youth properly going at it rather than sitting taking photos of themselves

My wife.
She always says things turned really cool in 1987.
House Music is the soundtrack of this island for me.
This latino-reagatton noise is pure shit.

Should be more than just house music though. What year did eccies make it to Ibiza? 87?

Classic GP, hating on popular Ibiza dance scenes!

You also went to Afterlife July 26th last year!
