ibiza 2012 season

It might be true.... or partially true.
Or they might have been greatly affected by their change of venue, people's shifting tastes, poor promotion, and the rise of PdB over San An? :?:

Marinas trust back from a slow start to the season
Marinas pitiusas have declined between 10 and 20 percent in the occupation
of their moorings until mid-June
|
The rising cost of diesel and crises also reduce output of vessels

Ibiza boating season began with a scare for marinas Pitiusan,
which last year buoyed the fluctuations that hit other areas of the Spanish coast.
Until May, the reduction has experienced more severe the port of Marina de Formentera,
which lost 20% of the occupation
recorded at the start of last season.

But the declines have been extended to all ports surveyed:
10% of that recorded the port of Sant Antoni to the cumulative decline of
14% of Marina Botafoch and brief loss of moorings has not suffered Marina Ibiza
in May and June - when filled to 70% - but "at the beginning of this July," for reasons
that his manager, Daniel Mari, is not explained and served to put him "anxiety" in the body.

And that in terms of reserves, is "the level of other years," explains the manager of Marina
de Formentera, Juanjo Costa. The occupations on today over 80 percent and even
some people already have eight out of ten moorings committed since mid-month
and end of August, as he says the manager of Club Nautic de Sant Antoni, Juanvi Rossello.
So what are concerned?

For the heavy weight of boats arriving unannounced:
those seeking a mooring without having booked.
And is that mostly come from the succulent superyacht segment, in fact, Mari says
that "60% of large yachts do not book" and left huge numbers where they saturate.
So until the last minute will not know at marinas how they will campaign outside the period
in which virtually all take for granted that hang the poster of 'complete': 15 to August 20.

Some stretch the boom gets to September and who is content to do so until the middle
of next month. But for all is vital to the balance of the year that September is reasonably good.
With it, close a year "similar" to 2010 as the manager said Marina Botafoch, Cristina Marí,
which is the worst expectations for this 2012:
"We expect a cumulative decline in activity of around 14%" compared to 2011,
the year was also falling.

Where appropriate, the decline in the circulation of boats adds less activity in the dock:
"You can see the boats go out less often, probably because the price of fuel,
among other factors," because the crisis also shows.

Rossello relates it to the disgrace of the brick: "
Many large yachts belonging to builders' and that marinas are a tab over which they have
fallen into those dominated spending millionaires in disgrace.
Their ships ply the waters near their home ports Peninsula.

Sant Antoni, he adds, yet not much is known between this type of luxury boats after
its recent enlargement, but has lived a few days of joy in their moorings
by the festival Ibiza 123, which has compensated the losses at the beginning of the campaign.

The music brought Portmany sheltered waters of some movement of people do not see Mari
in Ibiza Marina, although in his case have "produced more with less occupation",
thanks to the operations of large boats. "There is movement of people," says the manager.
In the nearby Marina Botafoch agree: "The smaller number of motion has been compensated
by a longer stay," says Mari.

The keys

FUEL
The price of fuel also affects the marine
The crisis and rising fuel prices have affected the number of outputs of the owners of vessels
based on the island and also the number of suppliers who supply the marinas,
where there is less activity.

Its the same as last year theyve just multiplied in number1 Try working opposite the Viva worker bar, you cant avoid them! Although great amusement can be had by telling passing tourists it's a gay bar!

Having just looked for a room on Formentera for a night this week, and come out with a minimum price of nearly 200Euros a night for one person in a pretty average place, I am not surprised in the least that occupancy is down :!:

Me and the missus booked a 3 night stay on formentera on playa mighorn for 3 nights for 99 euros a night with breakfast for both of us. Most of the hotels want you to stay for at least 3 nights but i found contacting them direct is much more beneficial. It took us days of trawling round the internet to find somewhere last year, felt like we where almost being vetted on some approaches, i got the feeling they like to protect Formentera to a degree. Some establishments there dont seem to advertise as freely as others and a quick google search does throw up some expensive prices but dig deep and send a few e-mails directly may give you some more reasonable prices. Are you still planning on going mate??

The rent of hammocks falls 50%
in a season "far worse" than expected

Cesar Jerez, president of the sea-land dealers, hopes that lift, but it is "difficult"

Maria Jose Real | Eivissa | 15/07/2012
The season is not going well for the hire of sunbeds and parasols.
The president of the Dealers Association of Maritime Terrestrial Zone, César Jerez,
says rents have fallen by between 40 and 50% this summer compared to same time last year
in a season "far worse" than than expected.

Competition
"The island in general is not the occupation that was expected.
Only save the key points, which are Cala Bassa, ses Salines, the end of Platja d'en Bossa
and Cala Jondal where operating environments have formed around the 'beach club'
and there he is renting hammocks
" Sherry said, who said that these premises rented
hammocks "more expensive" than others are affected.

"They charge a nonsense for teak hammock with a mattress pad
and this I think we affect others because people 'just average' going over there
and ask prices are hammocks think that all are equal and that is not well
"
said Sherry for whom there are "four or five beds euros best sand beaches and is not rented.
" A competition of the loungers of the 'beach club' must be added
the "disappearance" of the "average tourist".

"On the Island has always been three types of tourism:
the very high purchasing power,
the all-inclusive is not going anywhere and the environment, this year there, and if there is very little.
Missing tourists in average purchasing power and family not to use the all-inclusive
because anybody eat this kind of tourism. "

The president of this association is confident that the season lift, although it is "difficult."
It also ensures that "the last day is not recoverable."
"If you back between now and 15 days will be horrible because people are ready
with their staff and equipment. Indeed I have received calls from members to say
'Caesar, this is not going'.
There is much concern that we are paying a very high concessions,
not ten years ago they were more affordable. "
And said: "We promised to pay it and do well or poorly the season we have to do it."

News from Formentera

Occupancy

As pessimistically predicted, hotel and apartment occupation is down on last year.

In the first two months of the season, May and June, 20 percent fewer visitors
came to the Island when compared with 2011,
with most blaming the continuing financial crisis in Spain and Italy.

On a positive note figures for this month seem to be holding their own,
although locals are complaining that those who do arrive
do not have the same spending power as in previous years
.

Astronomic prices (especially restaurants and clubs) cannot be sustained indefinitely in these circumstances... eating out in Ibiza is still on average double the price of Madeira (a high-end tourist destination attracting wealthy tourists) or even Menorca, and drinks 2-3 times the price in similar venues. Quality is no better..

what i couldnt believe is the price of food in the local supermarkets in PdB.. a packet of sliced cheese (about 5 slices) was on average 4 euros... WTF???!!!!! :spank:
Absolutely no point eating or cooking in the apartments.

Could be worth it to rent a car and make a trip to the bigger stores by the main roads though

El turismo rural cierra unos meses «mediocres»
con esperanzas de mejorar en ocupación
Among the causes of the "substantial" fall compared with 2011
are "expensive" prices of flights and the crisis

Maria Jose Real | Eivissa | 22/07/2012
The trawl season for rural tourism is not giving the expected results.
While the Association of Rural Tourism in Ibiza and Formentera not have occupancy rates
until the end of the season, its president, Jose Torres, said that statistics will show
that the sector has suffered "a significant drop in the occupation " until July.

In this sense, the decline in employment has been "substantial"
compared to last year
in a fit of season Torres defined as "mediocre."
"Surely its worse than last year," explains.

Causes
The causes of this decline in employment must be sought in the "difficulties to reach
the island at reasonable prices
" and the "grave" economic crisis affecting Spain
and nearby countries, like Italy.

This bad data Pitiusan contrasts with the situation faced by the specialized rural tourism
in the Balearic Islands, especially in Mallorca, for January to June managed to increase
its turnover by 30% by increasing its presence in social networks and agreements
with travel agencies, among other measures.

In total there are 27 rural tourism in Ibiza and one in country hotels and Formentera.
As for most nationalities opt for rural tourism season that has grown is "fairly" the presence
of Dutch tourists' not only in rural tourism on the island but in general, "explains Torres,
who also claims that the English and German tourist has been present in this type of
accommodation.

Formentera, meanwhile, working more with national tourism and Italian possibly
"suffer a little more" because these two markets are most affected by the consequences
of the economic crisis.

On how he thinks will be the development of the remainder of the season,
the president of the rural tourism pitiusa is optimistic and feels that there are "positive signs".
"Now fortunately the island is practically overflowing with tourists, not that save a month
or two a year, but it certainly looks more joy now in Ibiza. We hope to have results, "
says Torres, who says he does not" has "that specialized in rural accommodation
in the Balearic Islands have changed their prices down because of the economic crisis

If you don't mind walking a bit out of the way, then the road opposite the Algarb, there's 2 supermarkets - 1 is a Spar - they were doing a selection of those sliced cheese packets for €2. Pretty sure there was more than 5 slices as well. ;)

Car rentals lose about 30% of turnover in the last three years
...

M. J. Real | Eivissa | 04/08/2012
The association of rent a car from PIMEEF estimates
its turnover will fall this year between 10 and 15% less.
"We have three or four years with a fall of 10, as long as this amount can go on,
but the cumulative and begins to be important. I estimate that in the last three years
and it will lose between 30 and 35% of turnover compared to 2009 was a good year, "
said Juan Cardenas, president of the Association of PIMEEF rent a car ...

...
To this we must add that with the economic crisis
the duration of the rental vehicle is shortened.

"Last year there was already a significant drop in days, for example, rentals of three
or four days, but this year has gotten worse because there are many one-day rentals,
pick up the car for a day and turn around the island. "

A concern for the season plus VAT increase, which will for the sector from September 1,
18 to 21% ...

Hotel owners trust in the 'good' occupation of August,
while recognizing that there will be free beds

Maria Jose Real | Eivissa | 07/08/2012
Hoteliers in Ibiza and Formentera estimate that occupancy figures this month
will be below those of last August, but will be "equally good"
because August "is the
month star," said Roberto Hortensius, president of the Business Federation Hoteliers in Ibiza
and Formentera (FEHIF), who said that sales are being "weaker" than last year.

"We've found that yes there are many hotels that have availability of beds in August.
Last summer we had a touch of North African demand this summer and have not so much
that must be added the bad economic times in Spain and Italy, which are very strong markets
in August. This affects the sale go weaker than last year, "said Hortensius.
In this sense, the president of the Hotel expects occupancy this month is between 90 and 95%,
which are a "good percentage" he said Hortensius.

Percentages
According to data from the survey that handles FEHIF occupation, last year the island of Ibiza
had a 95.5% and Formentera with a 96.72% occupancy. "These percentages are sold out,"
said the president of the hotel on Ibiza and Formentera.
In 2010, Ibiza had a 93.89% and 96.49% Formentera one, according to data from the FEHIF.
Hortensius is clear that this August will be "below 95%." And pointed out:
"There will be no day when you say 'there is no spare bed."
If you are looking for the next week there are beds available. "
And not only the supply of housing with higher price, but also has better value.

Hortensius recognizes that the expectations have of this month are "slightly inferior"
to the last year.

One of the main concerns of the hotel focuses on the low season months
(May and October). "We talk about occupations average 50% of the plant open
and not get out of there. We talk about recovery when these months work, "said Hortensius,
who is important to" know how to create a demand for these months from start to finish. "
