> Ibiza 123 Rocktronic Festival

seeing unprecedented names, never played in ibiza before, huge megastars in an incredible location for 65€.

or kasabian, a decent band that have played in ibiza several times in a 18-30 hotel for 40€ with an after party at a club you can always get into for free.

not bad value i reckon. in fact, it's more than fair, all things considered.

I suppose when you consider SHM were charging more for a 3-4 hour set in Pacha its a fair point...

Yes I agree with you.

Its got great potential... they just have to get the mix right. Bring in younger, more contemporary artists. Copy the Ibiza Rocks format which is proven to work.....

Its not as if its lacking from experienced pros organising it.
I disagree with this.

You don't have to have Kasabian, Franz Ferdinand and the like to make it big. As Grego pointed out, they're around every season for Ibiza Rocks anyway.

I'd go the other way. More artists on the level of Sting, Lenny Kravitz and (although not my fave) Elton. These are proven artists headlining solo concerts and festivals around the world. They're big time. Kasabian, much as I like them, couldn't tie these guys shoes.

Double down on that formula and success will come. And it'd be a hell of a lot more interesting.

This isn't supposed to be just another club night - Ibiza Rocks meets We Love. It's a festival with the world's largest talent agency behind it :!:

Yes that would be another way to go.

Is it just me, or did anybody else see the festival advertised and marketed much outside of Ibiza??

Not a mention of it on radio or print in Ireland.

It was marketed in mainland Spain quite heavily. Im sure Ibiza don't have Isle Of Wight festival adverts in their papers.

Bez - if you were the curator who would you pick to play?

I would like to have as many different styles of music there. Try something new and different.

Something similar to a later with Jools Holland format.

Would also have a nostalgia theme Madness/New Order/Happy Mondays/Kool and the Gang etc. Would love to hear some jazzy blues/rockabilly

Would also concentrate more on the "experience" as Ibiza is perfect for that especially with its location and fantastic sunset.

Probably a lot easier said than done though....

Has anyone considered that maybe clubbers aren't interested in having rock rammed up their preverbial year on year?

Someone quoted Ibiza rocks as being successful in a prior post and said 'why fix it if it ain't broken'.

The same goes for the music on the island.

Is it that unreasonable to understand a good proportion of party revellers are here for electronic dance music?

I know I am.

The rest is an added bonus If I get to experience it.

Yes I am going to 123 festival today to check out something different because elton john vs pnau intrigues me. I don't however see a large society of clubbers forking out cash tonight for intrigue alone.

the harsh reality may be that clubbers were scared off with a rock concept when ibiza has always been packaged as the electronic dance music destination. Ibiza rocks does well but perhaps that is the peak of how successful rock can be on the island.

and the other problem is having one stage forces people to listen to an entire schedule. so if you happen to hate dub step you are screwed because there is no other stage to go to.

Franz Ferdinand? Are they even still alive?

I dont think they have been heard of for the last 7 years and probably have as much relevance as Elton John and Sting have to the younger generation.

Hmm that's questionable statement. It's all about educating.

On another point looks like some others will be eating humble pie looking at the photos from day 1, it looked rammed.

They're playing at a festival here this summer so I guess they're still around
I always think of them as part of that same generation of bands as Kasabian... was just pulling another name out of a hat, really!

Any smart producer can create the illusion of a full capacity event. Theatres do it all the time by compressing the floor space closer together.

I was there yesterday.

Elton John live
First of all, I thought Elton John as a standalone act was fantastic. I am so happy that I got to see him perform. He even said on stage he was worried to perform in ibiza on his own because he didn't know what sort of reaction we would give him. so he was thrilled that everyone cheered him on.

Elton John vs PNAU
Elton john vs PNAU was questionable. It was unrehearsed, pre-recorded and there were moments when eltons mouth were moving but nothing was coming out of the microphone. loll

PNAU
PNAU were a little strange but interesting to watch.

FatboySlim
Fat Boy slim is just a happy go lucky guy. how can you not love him. every time I've seen him he is incredible. out of anyone of the dj's he got the biggest reaction by far. he brings joy to his sets.

Steve Angello
Then Steve Angello entered the stage. I can't believe how bad he has become. The whole set was not believable, played with no love. Worst act I had ever seen. I left 3 songs into his act. I just couldn't handle it. I can't believe this fool actually got paid for his set. He is a train wreck.

Firstly, his stage production that included confetti, fireworks those ice cannon thingies, fireworks, etc were just ridiculous. Most of it didn't even go off when it was meant to. It didn't make the performance any better. It was all just unnecessary and there in the name of disguise to truly show how crap he is.

About the organisors
In terms of organisation - I can't fault the organisers. They had everything covered. Drinks were very very reasonable. There were plenty of toilets, the sound was amazing, the stage was professional, entry was easy, the changeovers on stage by the production crew were fun to watch - they had it all working really well.

Vibe
I would say there was 3,500 people there and that is being very generous. The layout was done very well to create the illusion of a busy festival. As for the vibe I had a great time because it was something different for me.

I might go today to see it again. I did buy a 3 day pass so i guess i might as well use it.
