on a curious note, nobody was expecting last night that el ayoun (on its opening party) would have to close at 4pm . . . . .

Pleas Denied

The Neighbourhood Association, in conjunction with their small business counterparts
in the port area, have again asked the Town Hall to reconsider the new law
which forces all establishments to close their doors by 3:00 a.m.

The legislation was introduced last summer to  great success
according to the councillor for tourism, Vicent Ferrer.

However, they have appealed for closing times to be put back to 4:00 a.m.
as before, claiming that in times of crisis they needed all the advantages possible.
A spokesman for the two groups reminded the Town Hall the island was
the world's nightlife capital and that forcing the area to close its doors at 3:00 a.m.
had in fact had the opposite effect and lowered the calibre of clientele.
He used the example of San Antonio which has successfully extended opening hours
in the main tourist areas.

However, the pleas were denied by Ferrer, who claimed the changes had been
a success and improved the co-existence between businesses and residents
within the marina.

according to the local tv, the consell d'alcaldes (which includes the majors of the five municipalities on the island) decided today, among other things, to unify its closing times: bars at 3.30am and clubs at 6.30am :!:

(in ibiza town, for example, at the moment they had to close at 3 except on fri/sat when they had half hour extra)
