Will someone who knows stuff explain why they think it's going to be a massive pandemic, I thought it has been around in Asia for ages and only killed a few ppl so how comes if it gets over here they're saying 100s of thousands/millions could die from it![]()

In its current form, it can't be the cause of a pandemic as it can only be caught from being in close promixity to infected birds and can't be passed on other humans. However, if it mutates, by for example, combining with a human flu virus strain, making it transmissible between humans, then, Houston, we have problem. Apparently flu pandemics occur on average every 50 years or so -- the last one was the Spanish Flu way back in 1918 which killed anywhere between 20 and 50 million worldwide and, significantly, commonly killed young healthy people.

I thought you got if from drinking water that's been naturally filtered through layers of rock?
