Another difficult thing for us is when all our staff want the same times off during the summer.

Even worse when they have kids which narrows it down even more.

So you dont want your staff having children OR a summer holiday :?:

You sound like one of those bosses who is constantly taken to work tribunals lol ;)

No Drew sounds like one of those bosses who keeps to his side of your employment contract but gets frustrated that don't want to honour your side of the bargain.

Contracts usually say in black and white that people must give at least four weeks notice of holidays and being allowed to go at the time requested is at the management's discretion.

If it's fair for you to argue against that is it fair if you don't get paid your contracted wage?

Thanks Buckley ;)

I wasn't suggesting either of what Becki suggested, i was simply pointing out the difficulties we have to face with holidays

And for her info we've been in business 27 years and never been to a single tribunal.

Like i said, we've got 40'odd year old staff that have been with us since leaving school so we can't be all that bad.

;)

I was talking tongue in cheek you two! Jeez, so serious all of a sudden 8O

I understand Becki's comment, first Drew comment sounded a bit "bad" ;)

I make my debut next week against a fitter who wants 10 grand because I sacked him for endangering our men. Wanker was claiming to service vans, not doing so and sending them back out. Only caught him because one of lads is a petrol head and he marked all the filters that should of been changed only to find them still there when the can had been 'serviced'.

In all seriousness, it can be very frustrating running a business. When one person throws a sicky here, the cost to me is £1000 for his plant standing for the day and a day wages for his 'mate' (workpartner) who
we still need to pay even though he cannot work alone.

What if someone had gone to a shady afterparty on the Sunday morning, and had been far too indulgent and got himself into a bit of a silly state, and rang up on the Monday so destroyed he couldn't come into work. Would you let him have a sicky then :?:

You'd be surprised. They'll be a procedural problem somewhere and we'll ended up settling with him. (Although he may get a 'visit' before that  )

Nope - he should get his arse into work as I did on Monday, after that very sort of indulgence (that's a coincidence eh Miss Boo?). Funny enough I had to sack someone at 7am on Monday for not showing on Friday.

I'd also like to point out that my 'shady afterpartying' went on until late Sunday night and I was still in Monday. :P

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

No bun-fighting kids, I was merely trying to help employees understand the duality of employment contracts - that you should stick to your side of the bargain as rigourously as you expect you employers to do the same.

Maybe, but how many times can you say you've stayed out all Sunday night and gone straight in to work Monday morning?

:P

I think everyone should calm down and remember that no-one on the board is the others employer/employee!

And can I also say that Buckley must have an incredibly fast recovery rate! Clubbing followed by aftershow, followed by aftershow followed by aftershow for me = off work until Wednesday at least! :P ;)

And yes Drew/Buckley I know you'd sack me :D

Buckley, I understand you two more than what you think.
My family runs a business with lots of employees and I'm far more empathic with employers than most workers ;)
