What's the norm for holiday entitlement here in the UK? What do your eomployers allow you? Or if you're an employer how many days off do you give your staff?

20 plus bank holidays if you work for me Boo-ster. Can't really see you digging holes though ;)

Do your employees think you're a bit skanky for only giving 20days Buckers?

How does it work in the UK? Is the employer who decides, it's something agreed by employer - employees?

Me: 22 working days

Most of the labour in my industry is fairly fluid, moving somehwere for a small payrise every few months or so. The workforce constantly hold me to ransom when demand for their ever rarer skills is at it's peak, so the benefits we offer above beyond renumeration are minimal.

Those who remain loyal are contracted to only have 20 days but I don't dock their money when they need extra days off.

most will give you 20 days paid.

depends on your position. not unheard of peeps getting 30 days paid hols.

i get 20 + 3 days between Xmas and New Year.

We give ours 20/22 + bank holidays.

It annoys me when people accuse businesses of being tight with holidays.

Do employee's realise just how much it costs to employ someone these days? Insurances, training etc etc etc.

I should add that those in 'the circle of trust', my core team don't have their days off counted at all. I couldn't care less if they have 40 days holiday as long as they get the results I need.

Alright alright you tightwad! ;)

I was just asking because the job I like is 20days + 3 days over Christmas and I wanted to know if that was lower than average.

Indeed. And businesses could have much fewer staff and afford to give you much more holiday if you didn't spend all day on here folks - FACT!

indeed.

my boss gives me an extra half day if i go in on days ive booked off and am not doing anything planned.

hate peeps who EXPECT this and that without putting in the effort and think the company owe them something... :?

25 days for me, most big decent companies give 25 or more I've found. You need 25 days for a couple of holidays in the summer, time off over Christmas/New Year and a couple of wkend breaks I find.

Sounds just like us, although we have staff that have worked for us 18/20 years 8O

Wouldn't you also agree that working in the service industry makes it very difficult to award lots of holiday days? I feel it is far easier to offer more holidays to white collar workers as it is often easier for them to forward plan and/or catch up their work around holiday periods.

We're so busy all the time, if someone's off i need to replace them with someone else, which means employing 'spares' or using agencies.
