- Eden will be back next year -

Is trance relevant anymore? Read about some 'big' trance nights attended by about 400 people at venues like Privilege over the last couple of years. Don't think they work anymore in big venues, a small venue, boat parties or one off's appear to still work.

I believe a venue like Eden needs to take a more underground route to be a success.

The most logical residency would be to get MK? Bring in a massive number of Brits staying in San An, plus i think he suits the venue.

They really going to be able to afford MK? This guy is hot property at the moment, and my guess is that he will do all he can to seal a big money deal in Ibiza next year - he seems VERY money motivated! My view is he should eventually take a full-time season long Pacha residency (be that this year or next). However, does he have the appetite for it? Personally, I did enjoy his sets at INSANE last year, he brought in a different crowd, but I think he'd be better on Monday's at Ibiza Rocks if that night stays.

i would say that toolroom will more than likely be back in eden next year, giving the situation with boom. Hope this is the case anyway.

I'm hoping for a good house night, I remember a few years back poss 2008 when tongy played at Eden and it was (to my surprise) one of the best nights I had! Wicked pre party in Plastik, good vibes! I would say Defected but not sure they would go for it....

Out of interest, why do you feel he is VERY money orientated?

Will dig out a recent interview where he was saying he needed to DJ to sell records and make money that way. I have no issues with artists wanting to make money BTW! I'm not purest. Just I'd imagine MK will follow the money in 2015!

I suppose anyone lucky enough to have some success in production/DJing wants to earn enough to have a decent living. I suppose they also realise that some of them may have a relatively short shelf life. As long as someone doesn't sell their soul or rip of the punters (House Mafia etc) I am ok with people wanting to make a bit of money.

Agree. Am really interested to see how the next chapter of MK will evolve. Hopefully he keeps doing what he is doing: House Music. In my view MK will have achieved great-ness when we are all moaning about chart/pop music sounding all the same and all "MK" and not all "EDM". Just listen to some of Calvin Harris's new album for evidence that this genre (EDM) has run out of ideas...

MK was playing at Pacha when I was there in September and he played last. You could see there were a lot of people just there for him who had stayed. Not sure why, but probably because of chart success, he appears to have attracted the masses and he is the latest 'cool' DJ to like.

We stayed for an hour of his set and it was ok. I prefer people accessing this sort of music rather than EDM and it may lead them on to different more underground preferences in the future.I would listen to MK, but would walk straight out of Calvin Harris made a guest appearance!

I just hope MKs lust for success doesn't focus too much on appealing to the masses.

Yep, seems we are totally in agreement with the MK-Thing. He most definitely is attracting the type of people that just go because he is a 'pop star' / 'celebrity' for sure. This mainly is a bunch of girls who fancy him and like his accessible house music. Putting MK as part of the Insane night at Pacha worked in terms of attracting a crowd that was able to gain exposure to excellent music. I mean people got exposure to the likes of Digweed, Sneak, Reboot etc who would never have seen them before. My take (and be interested what more regulars thought) was that as his Pacha residency went on it started to become more about HIM (as you'd expect with the chart success of MHIAJ). In early June when I went to a Digweed, MK, Sneak Insane night at Pacha the crowd was less all about MK, by September it was a bit too much girls at the DJ booth holding their phones as if MK was some pop-star.

MK sold out once before in the 90s when he just started making pop remixes that record execs just wanted to sound like his last hit!

Have been arguing this point all summer! He can get these kids off EDM, and I think people like Jamie Jones knew this when they got him out of 'retirement'. He can help people bridge from House to Underground. And even the other way! MK got me back into appreciating the likes of Sneak and more real House artists as opposed to thinking Cocoon and ENTER was the only sound in town!

I'm kinda dissapointed that GC didn't last long, as a brand and name it had plenty of power behind it, even if they were struggling. Almost like a poor mans Cream. My friend went one of the nights it was open and said they were offering a free bar just to get people in and he was amazed at how badly promoted it was.

I agree with mr_why EDM is becoming a pain in the arse, it's just the Americans lack of understanding calling anything with a synth EDM.
I went to Ushuaia to see Afrojack and Avicii and it was just hell on earth, I'm a Trance head so f*** knows why I went there in the first place especially as it was on the Sunday just after Cream at Amnesia and Paul Van Dyk was fresh in my head, probably the most expensive day I had there, with me staying in San An.

Just full of teenage yanks larging it, and whilst I'm only just pushing 30, it just seems like an under 18's afternoon party.

Anyway I digress... if Eden was failing and GC a non starter, then San Antonio needs something new and different, the place already has its share of dross and Es Paradis is probably the best bet even if it's only good for a single night really.

I'd take it back to the Old School, Not quite Acid House but something like Manumisson and some showcase nights, where you know your going to have a good time but niche enough not to attract kids who to be fair wouldn't have a clue anyway. Drop the price of drink a little and you might well have a bangng few nights to go to. But please have a decent Cocoon type night for me aswell :D
Hell don't have any Trance but aslong as it's not in your face commercial sold out nonsense I'm quite happy with that.

Call it Decades or Front to Back and make it worth going :D

Graeme Park, Allister Whitehead, Sarah Main... get them all back too!!

Totally agree. I went to both the Opening + Closing parties and there was a noticeable shift.

I would wager he will get his own slot in 2015 with his Area 10 brand. (I think they trialled it the week after Closings - can anybody confirm how it went??) Maybe it will work like a residency within a residency - much like WOTG at Insane did this year. But I think it would be better for both parties if he moved away from Fridays altogether. He is has star power in his own right, now more than ever.

Monday seems to be there trouble-session since the departure of SHM. Nothing they have tried has had any real success, week-in, week-out. Maybe MK is the man who changes that?! He is evidently marketable, with a huge (and growing) fanbase. He won't be everybody's cup of tea, owing to how commercial he has become and also due to his lack of DJ-ing prowess. However, that's never been a problem for brand Pacha.

I just feel Insane needs to take a more underground route. It is, afterall, 1 of only 2 weekly underground nights (almost forgot about Solomun+1 there!! - which I assume will be returning in 2015).

MK didn't do that date in the end, reboot played instead.

I agree MK would be a good name/brand for eden, but I think they'd need to close that deal pretty soon.

as for pacha...let's see what happens with insane next year...and as for solomun+1, I very much hope he'll be back at pacha, in my humble opinion he is the artist that currently suits the club the most. the stuff he plays just caters for so many different tastes and the vibe is honestly great. but ibiza is ibiza, and a certain venue has apparently already made an offer for solomun...i just hope mladen sticks to pacha - it's the best thing he can do.

OMG he'd be crazy to leave that place! Solomun is made for Pacha! He has the opportunity in my view to make Pacha his home for years and years and become as much part of Pacha's history as Piti / flower power etc! Sven/Cocoon at Amnesia, Coxy at Space...... SOLOMUN at Pacha!

Defected, Toolroom and a potential MK night up for grabs, surely one of these house nights will end up in San Antonio

This is not an anti SanAn thing, but does anyone really sell a world-wide image and brand off the back of a residency at Es P and Eden? Carl Cox (Space), Solomun (Pacha)...... MK (ahhh Eden)!

It is all about branding it well. Sankeys have managed it and there is a market for somewhere decent in San Antonio.

Every club has had poor years (I don't think Amnesia even opened in 95?) but if they can get two or three good nights and not dilute it with trying to have a full seven day schedule, I think someone sensible could really build a decent brand.
