- Eden will be back next year -

I really don't do SanAn that much so I can't add much to this. However, all I will say is people are always saying that Eden etc just needs a big night and then all will be OK. A certain Mr Pete Tong if I recall took "Wonderland" to Eden 2008/9/10. The like of Josh Wink, Luciano (i.e. very credible DJs) were playing there. Surely that night would have taken it to the next level if any thing was? No?

good comment about wonderland. but ushuaïa, sankeys and other venues didn't exist yet at that time.

on the other hand, eden now (the club as such) is much much better than in 2008-2010.

I think it's a very difficult situation, simply because of all the competition, but I also think they should try to get two or three decent nights next year - and simply stay closed the rest of the week or only open with residents.

I say Fuse as its the party all the younger but clued up kids around london are going to every sunday and then seeking out when they're on the island. its cool but not chin strokey and its british which helps a club in san an. the promoter would never do it though. I guess you could say similar about a few parties at Sankeys

Wonderland ran for three years (I think?) I never went, but as far as I know this was Edens most successful time as Garlands was also doing ok. I just think it is something that needs to be continued for a brand to developed. Decent club nights make a decent club. Look at Privilege after Manumission left, I haven't been back since.

When Pete tong left Pacha and took the venue back then, Pete ask the previous owner ( who was spanish) to rebuilt the club, after 3 years running and many lie from the owner telling him every year ok we do it next year he left the club.Without Wonderland and Judgment sunday who was quiet strong back then but getting less and less attractive as trance not as strong as before , Eden get sold to a Dutch promotor, from that point the club never regain popularity. a other factor is that for many many years there were only 7 superClub on the island, now you have Ushuaia ,sankeys, Boom + all the beach bar. Also the division between Playa d'en bossa and san an wasn't that strong as it is now.

I think Privilege is the same , and in my opinion much more sad than Eden, not so easy to fill such a venue! 10 years ago , the main room was open nearly every night, don't get me wrong, not as full as Manumission but they were thousand every night! Time has changed

I'm still not sure Eden is needed anymore, last time I went was 2012, and it wasn't busy then, even though Christian Varela was playing (ok not a huge name but still..)

Having lost Judgement and Wonderland, it just hasnt found itself again since, and with the competition from a far superior club across that road, that does have some fairly good nights, as well as some cheese, its going to struggle

As for privilege, it always makes me sad how this place has turned out, it would be epic if a party like Cocoon took a bold move and went to Priv (they were forced to 2007 when Amnesia was closed down after all!), all it needs is one or two good nights with big names, and the place is full! They should also focus on using the large space to host live shows/concerts, as that kind of thing suits the venue

I think it's amazing 2 venues the size of Es Paradis and Eden (in some incarnation or another) have survived for so long, given how quiet they are the majority of the time.

From an outside point of view their business model appears completely wrong. Perhaps I am wide of the mark with that statement, since Es Paradis in particular continue to trade year-in, year-out.

Truth is, even if MK, Fuse, Tong - or any of the brand/acts previously mentioned set-up home there would it really change things all that much???

Gatecrasher was a trainwreck in 2014, no doubt about it. But some of those line-up in the early part of the season - Creche, Speakerboxx etc. - they should have worked. But they never did.

You will never get your typical San An crowd paying €30+ per night for tickets, when places like Hush offer free admission and arguably a better night.

Given the choice you much rather pay €10-odd more each pp to catch a cab to elsewhere on the island where you can guarantee a decent night with a better atmosphere - and that's what people are doing. Even the hard-up workers get treated so well at Sankeys they have no need to stay in San An and spend money unnecessarily.

The beach bars are doing big business at the moment. Conceivably you could spend a week in Ibiza, visiting beach bars every night of week and still catch international class DJs every day without spending a cent on tickets. Then spend your night in the West End. It wouldn't be a bad little trip. And you could still brag to your mates about seeing some great DJs when you get home and not be lying.

Talking about privilege, I guess nearly every promotor are to scare about the capacity of the venue. Not so easy to fill in 10.000 people every week.if you can manage to attract 4000 every week the place will still seem not crowed enough for a good party, another problem is the high roof, you can't get the same sound as space for example.

noticed Ministry of Sound have started recruiting an on island team for Summer 2015, possibly returning to Eden? (think they hosted a night there in 2013?)

Ministry of Sound’s Tours and Events business are recruiting an on island General Manager to assist in the planning and delivery of the 2015 Ibiza season.

Reporting to the Head of Events, this role is vital to the success of our Ibiza residency.

With experience in running music events and multi faceted project management, the General Manager is responsible for all aspects of the on island business, from creative execution, management of all PR staff, production, performers and DJs. Full P&L responsibility and budget management is also a major part of the role. A working knowledge and experience of running events in Ibiza is essential.

they MIGHT just be looking for someone who takes care of hed kandi - which is run by MoS.
of course it could also be the proper return of MoS though ;)

Bring back eden, had some good nights in there. Don't think MK will be there as he's the hottest property in Ibiza at the moment and will surely be snapped up by pacha(own night), I reckon. Tongy would be a good shout though. Bring back some of the old skool dj's, tall paul, Brandon block, digweed etc and put on a night. I think personally to some people its an image thing to be seen in certain bars/clubs etc, and deem it un cool to be drinking in and around san an, put on a good night in a cess pit and ill turn up ffs, as people have already said, a couple of decent line ups next year and all will be ok.

to be fair to Es Paradis their Hed Kandi and two Water Party nights are busy, so thats 3 nights of the week. Their Ibiza Rocks After Party & Paint Party also seemed to have a steady crowd. Also their costs will be much lower than the bigger clubs as they aren't paying a fortune for big name DJ's. I also think the club itself still has a bit of a wow factor, there's no other club that has the unique 'garden centre' look and feel to it, its one of those 'got to go there once' type of clubs.

agree with your other points though, Cafe Mambo & Cafe Del Mar in particular seem to be booming due to having big name DJ's on for free. The San An crowd now seem to watch the sunset, watch the likes of Fatboy Slim for a couple of hours...then get a taxi out of there to Bossa, Pacha or Amnesia.

As for Eden I think they should concentrate on hosting say 2 big nights a week and stay shut the rest of the time. Building a reputation back up will take years, and they'd be best off hosting one off events and getting a buzz back than trying to open 7 nights a week and having to pretty much pay people to come in...only for them to leave within 30mins cos its dead.

@Digital2013 i totally agree and forgot about all the reputation building that a club and or brand need over several years to become successful, it's just something you take for granted when thinking about stuff like this. My own personal opinion is I quite like San An even if it's for a laugh on the west end or watching the sunset outside Mambo, but if you look at where Amnesia and Privilege are, especially if your staying in San An or Bossa it's quite the journey, speaking from experience I'm normally hammered so time just passes normally for the whole time I'm there and it's only when I'm home I think that was nice.
Anyway my point is if your staying inbetween the airport and Ibiza town you have Ushuaia, space and pacha to name a few, if your staying on the west side you have eden/gc/?? And es paradis ( I'm talking high volume clubs ) and then Amnesia and Privilege in the middle. Every club barring those in San An appeal to me for some reason or another and it would be nice to have something 'wow on the west side and this is purely selfish as I like staying there. I'll definatley be going in the summer to whatever takes over Eden as the last 2 summers I've stayed away and my normal bizarre and weird nights out can become even more strange as I won't be travelling about

And their flyers were Ugly.

I think Eden is suffering not just because of the difficulities its had with GC etc but with teh decline in popularity of San An itself. Back in the early 2000s (god I feel old typing that) San An was full to the brim with English clubbers and workers, nobody came over here to work in Bossa (you just went there for space/bora bora) and the town was buzzing.

I spent a long weekend over there last summer for a HH event and everything just felt so desolate and quiet compared to my time there years ago. I wouldn't be surprised if Eden struggled again this year.

One thing I wondered, will we see Dutch events coming over, with the owners being from that way? We're doing a lot of digital marketing that targets dutch search audiences, and doing the research the demand for Dutch language terms is huge in comparison to English. I know the crowd is slightly different, with it more being older, but you never know.
