Drug Raids
Between 24 and 30 people were arrested in the early hours of Friday morning
in one of the biggest anti-drug operations of the year so far.
Officers revealed an investigation had been ongoing for the last few months,
and culminated in the raids on at least ten properties across the island,
it what was code-named "Operation Trafalgar".
The majority of those arrested were Liverpudlians, although it is believed
a handful of Spanish were also detained as police raided properties
in San Mateu, Santa Eulalia, San Antonio and San Jose.
Babylon, the bar located in the West End, was also raided and is believed
to have been the gang's headquarters and main point of sale.
In total officers recovered 20,000 ecstasy tablets, 1.5 kilos of ketamine,
as well as half a kilo of cocaine and crystal.
The Guardia Civil's special drugs department also recovered €50,000 in cash,
as well as several cars.
The exact details of the operation will not be released until Monday,
the same day that most of the suspects will either be detained further or released,
although the judge claimed over the weekend he had not ruled out
keeping them longer until he had heard from everyone involved in the case.
