Drugland on BBC2

one stat i thought was interesting was that the bbc guestimate that 250,000 british clubbers come to ibiza each summer.

in total about 750,000 british tourists come to ibiza each summer.

don't know where they got the figures, but that sounds about right to me.

Stephen previously said that 500,000 clubbers go to Ibiza each summer....

...So the Brits make up half the clubbing numbers?

That doesnt seem right to me.

I find that way to harsh!!! i worked as a PR in the west end and id like to think im not a ''Chav'', granted there maybe a minority who may meet the criteria u use to be classed a ''Chav'' but dont tie us all to the same brush.

i can also relate to wot Maurice was saying with regards to beer boys and drug takers.

I may also add i worked out in ibiza for just over 2 months of last summer, and can honestly say i never once took drugs, alcohol was the only ''drug'' i took, i just didnt feel the need, the way i look @ it is wether it be space, amnesia where ever. if the music is to my tatse then the buzz i get doesnt need it to be any better, for instance, id had a few beers b4 the Cocoon closing party @ amnesia, finished work then hit the club for about 3am, i lasted till 10:30am untill the after party was cancelled by police, and i could of lasted longer!

agreed. i didnt do drugs till my last week and only once. i do them occasionly over here. but never had anythin to keep me goin on any big nights in ibiza. stayed till half ten mamumission closing. but must admit i couldn't make the space carry on. was knackered! each to thier own tho. jus do what u want, be careful (and that applies to alchol and drugs) most important hav fun!!!!!! :)

Amen to that Mia.

I'm sure the ratio of clubbers to non-clubbers was quoted on this very site at about 3:1, i.e. 750,000 holiday-makers, 250,000 clubbers. Which I thought sounded right.

Proper question: do you lot who are fortunate enough to live on the White Isle actually think that life would be better without the clubbing aspect? I ask because most tourists go without clubbing, and a couple of years without clubs would totally repair the Ibiza image (ok, might be more like Minorca, which is lovely but very very dull) and would attract even more people just for the climate/countryside/general cool mentality. I appreciate that it's never going to happen, despite the fact that most residents would end up miles better off financially, because partying is ingrained from the Romans onwards (always been a party isle), but to be totally honest if I lived in Ibiza (onr day), and this is said as a clubber, come August I'd just be thinking 'Oh for fook's sake, fook off and ruin your own country for a bit!'. I utterly understand if you feel this is so. Cos quite frankly, I'd be p1ssed off.

i think clubbing is as much a part of the island as las salinas salt flats and dalt vila castle.

people have been coming here to let their hair down in very tolerant surroundings for 50 years (some would say 2000). clubbing is simply this generation's take on the 'letting your hair down'.

because i go out myself on occasion, i personally would miss it if the clubbing stopped. i also think the island would suffer economically if the clubbers stopped coming. for every clubber who drinks i bottle of water a night at cream, there's another one who eats at sa capella and spends 200 in pacha. (maybe not quite, but you get my drift).

it is just a case of finding the right balance.

we are in the process of updating our entire resort guide with this very thing in mind - clubbers and families can exist peacefully side by side, if they know where to go and stay.

there's also a picture of them in august (you know, when they're all on holiday) with a 2100 kilo haul of hashish confiscated from a boat.
just after that aduanas kept investigating to everybody related to the guys involved which end up last monday with a confiscation in san antonio (230 kilos of hachís and 1,3 of cocaine) and another guy in prison :!:

article here

better explained:

Big Drugs Bust In Sant Antoni.
A big drugs bust in Sant Antoni led to the customs authorities arresting a Spanish man living in the town & confiscating 230 kilos of hashish, 1.300 grams of cocaine, 8.000€'s in cash & drug weighing & processing equipment. The arrest comes after months of investigation following another big drug find in August 2004 which led customs anti-drug agents to believe that the island was being used by organised crime gangs as stop off point for drugs smuggled from North Africa on their way to the mainland of Spain.

and the tongue-in-cheek version by spotlight:

Strange Customs at the BBC
In a recent undercover documentary the BBC gave the Ibiza customs service a right bashing claiming that they hadn't caught any drug smugglers and that they all, as a man, went on holiday in August, leaving the service inoperative. Ibiza newspapers immediately published photos of a massive haul of hashish that the customs men had confiscated in August.

This week an investigation which started last year when a 2,100 load of hash was confiscated from a lorry on a ferry ended with the detention of a man in San Antonio. He was in possession of 230 kilos of hash and loads of equipment which is normally used for the commercial sale of the drug. The man claimed that all 230 kilos were for personal use and no doubt we'll be seeing him at San Antonio's annual kite flying day on Sunday where he probably won't need a kite!

100 Kilos of Drugs Found In Cave Near Cala Llonga.
The custom authorities found a stash of 100 kilos of hashish in a cave in the Cala Llonga area of Ibiza this week. The cave was a fantastic warehouse for drug smugglers as it was well hidden with few people knowing it was there & could only be reached by boat. In the cave the hiding place f the drugs had been marked with luminous paint which only showed up in the dark so that the smugglers could find their stash at night. The authorities are now going to burn the drugs to destroy them & are continuing investigations as to who on the island was involved in this smuggling operation.
As a foot note to this article, the customs service in Ibiza took possession of a brand new patrol launch this week & it was this vessel which they used to find the 100 kilos of hashish hidden in the cave in Cala Llonga. A state of the art vessel, the new customs boat can reach very fast speeds, is very manoeuvrable & can navigate through shallow waters. In other words, it is ideal for catching drug smugglers!

Haha, whoever/whichever gangster gets the blame for that is gonna end up supporting a bridge for eternity on one of the new Motorways 8O

Well, the roads can use the work. When I was in San An last summer, I saw a couple really bad automobile accidents that really killed my buzz.

 No, i meant that he'll be murdered then burried in concrete in one of the bridges/tunnels.......it's what happened to a number of 60s London gansters who ended up in the various flyovers/bridges that were built around that time ;)
