Drugland on BBC2

I find verys trange this love-hate relationship between UK and Ibiza

Most British people love Ibiza once they've been.

However, the people who have not been tend to have a preconceptions of the island i.e. the bad images presented on TV programs in the UK e.g. Ibiza Uncovered.

It is very difficult for us that have been to get over the many positive aspects of the island.

For example, we met some old friends in Barcelona (over the new year) who know we like to party (occasionally :) ). The first question they asked was "so, you go to all these foam parties then?" They seemed quite shocked when we said "no! of course not". OK, foam parties are fun for some people but that just gives you an example of what people think Ibiza is all about.

If i know someone and think they'll like Ibiza, i just tell them to go once so they can make up their own mind and offer them as much advice as possible.

I wasnt going to watch the documentry coz it always gets me how the telly always shows the bad ibiza, but i couldnt help tuning in when i heard the telly that my mum was watching.( not a problem as she fell asleep watching it!)
I thought it showed that Ibiza is the easiest place to deal/get drugs, like the police being so dumb and slow, with thier crap cameras and no luck on the boats. Especially as that guy who was in prison, got weekends off...Is that really gonna scare people off!!
But best of all is that watching ibiza on tv gave me such a buzz, really cheered me up, while its pouring with rain outside i felt like summer was on its way. Made me feel good all the next day. Anyone else feel like that, or was it just me??

What I mean is that I don't understand why the british media insist in showing the worst Ibiza when Ibiza is a main resort for british holidaymakers.

In all seriousness, I'm fcuking pissed off because it means that when I announce my annual trip to Ibiza again this year, more and more people (eg from work) think I'm going there purely to join the drug crazed masses and be a 'junkie' myself.

Massive massive

(I don't need to go to Ibiza to be 'drug crazed!') ;)

The programme I feel portrayed the island really negatively, sensationalized as per usual! as for the amsterdam bar well...ahem,we got to know a few of the workers there in July, the girl at the starts called Gail, dunno if anybody knows her, shes friends with some of the Hed Kandi guys, always completley spangled :P ,she wasnt there when I went back in September neither was Miguel the middle aged spanish guy who was a bit of a fruitbat!(kept rearranging chairs for no reason!)wonder if they'll be putting their famed crocdile sweets on ice after this...! ;)

I think that when the program was made the boat cops hadnt caught any drug running boats for two years but between the program being made and shown then they did catch some maybe?

Also, you always hear about people being caught coming off the ferry with large amounts of drugs, are some people mixing these cases up with thinking they caught them on a boat at sea?

GOOD FOR SOME..NOT FOR OTHERS!

:D WELL HAVING WORKED IN san-an in the early part of the summer, the programme i thought was not far of the mark!.i dont do drugs..dont need to.love my booze too much!.lets not forget though drugs such as the programme portrayed are highly illegal in most european countries.that said though.each to there own....but if your gonna do something illegal....dont tell the whole world.i met the scousers the proggramme referred to in my local drinking den,i found them funny, amusing,up for a laugh, and just out there to make a bob or two like the rest of us.if i needed a beer,or was skint to payday,on more than one occasion they helped out,you couldnt help but like the jolly scousers.but the downside to what they do is downright dangerous, they take great risks, and some of the individuals they have to deal with are evil twisted arse-holes!.i wouldnt imagine dealing drugs in san-an is for the faint-hearted,i know of one dealer who used to hang out at koppas, who got a severe beating up for ripping people off.everybody i met or drunk with seemed to have something to do with the roaring drugs trade!..but if you dont take em....you wont become embroiled in there wee world.it took me 3 weeks to sus out who was who.....and all in all they werent a bad bunch.i remember coming up the west end one night though where i found a young 18 year old girl, lying sprawled out on the pavement outside trops disco, knickers and trousers at ankles!....ovbiously she was in a bad way....got a bad hit.had a few beers....and ended up in hospital.....i saw many like her.i also saw many people thinking they were having an excellent time.....being overcome by the old horsemouth after effects!.....and these people were ovbiosly having a good time.!!point is.most of you guys on these boards slag of the beerheads on these boards....but thats san-ans bread and butter!....and there not doing anything illegal.a word of advice to those thinking of working there though......dont work for someone who takes drugs!....when there on there comedown....its the workers who usually suffer!.i always thought drugs were taken by the younger fraternity.....something you do on holiday in ibiza.....if you booze all day.everyday.....your called an alcoholic.....but whats the equivalent for a drug user called?...poor sad old brandon block....grow up my son......your a laughing stock.anyways i been offered a job in southern france this summer.....no drugs.but plenty o beer!...ahh heaven. cheers bigmo!

Because trashy TV wins viewers over here.

There was a good series all about Ibiza (can't remember name) on one of the Sky channels. It covered the nightlife, but also a lot of other nice aspects of the island.

The UK 'workers' are one of the most annoying things about Ibiza.

"Oi Oi treacle, two for one, a free knock back + Dangerous Daves banging tunes all night for just 20 Euros"

Didn't see that, but I loved the programme on C4 hosted by Senor Morillo.

I don't live in Ibiza.

Come on mate, you don't see many of the UK workers behind the bars at Pacha, Space etc...granted there is a minority who are pretty cool but they all work for Mambo, Savannah and the likes.

The West End UK chav PR crew are all a nightmare.

OK, we can all moan and complain, etc...

But seriously, how many of us who use this board go on holiday to Ibiza and do not participate in drug taking?

Everytime I've ever been I've always done something, be it a little bit of weed or a dabble in something stronger. And it was all around me, nowhere else in Europe have I seen where someone can step of a plane and score off a complete stranger within 30 minutes of arriving.

Greek islands are not like this, try walking around the streets of Mykonos asking for pills and see what sort of response you will get. Yet it still has a vibrant night scene, not on par with Ibiza, but not far off.

Or Miami, almost impossible to score anything unless you know a long-term resident. Yet it has an electric club scene.

Basically what I'm saying is, we can moan and groan about programmes like this, but realistically we all understand deep-down that clubbing holidays in Ibiza are all about getting bang on it!

Anyway, there is a chat about the programme on the official BBC site which may be of some interest:

I've been racking my brains all day on and off trying to remember what it was called

It was easily the best TV program about Ibiza.

* still thinking *

I find that way to harsh!!! i worked as a PR in the west end and id like to think im not a ''Chav'', granted there maybe a minority who may meet the criteria u use to be classed a ''Chav'' but dont tie us all to the same brush.

i can also relate to wot Maurice was saying with regards to beer boys and drug takers.

I may also add i worked out in ibiza for just over 2 months of last summer, and can honestly say i never once took drugs, alcohol was the only ''drug'' i took, i just didnt feel the need, the way i look @ it is wether it be space, amnesia where ever. if the music is to my tatse then the buzz i get doesnt need it to be any better, for instance, id had a few beers b4 the Cocoon closing party @ amnesia, finished work then hit the club for about 3am, i lasted till 10:30am untill the after party was cancelled by police, and i could of lasted longer!

Yeah, i think that was it "A Rough Guide To Ibiza"

This program did all the right things to help promote the island in a positive way, but obviously didn't receive the ratings of "Ibiza Uncovered" and the like.

Excellent it was!
