I guess you just cope/deal with it dont you? Sometimes you can surprise yourself.....

The only pro I see with having them is you wont be lonely when you get old and it would be nice to have family to look after you.

Never guaranteed, Crispy Duck !! Especially a lot of the 'grown up kids' I see in my own peer group. Having them there to help you into a nursing home if you ever needed looking after is more like it !!

Oh makes me feel sad about my parents getting old

aye, and youd be surprised at how much you can grow up in a short space of time. i would of just been like anyone else couldnt have imagined myself with a child so young but now that it happend i couldnt imagine me without one.
And i still get to go out and on hols all the time (back to ibiza next week).

Go spend time with them then whilst they are still around and have their faculties. And forgive them their ageing idiosyncrasies - we'll all be like that one day. It's too late once they're gone or gaga and you can't turn back the clock.

I have two girls, 12 years and 9 years. They are fantastic, I enjoy time with them and it is most enjoyable to watch them grow up into young adults.

However,

If I had my time again I would probably not want any children. Unless you are on big dollar wages then you will be skint. You have no time to yourself and I am completely knackered all the time.

I didn't really want kids, but always assumed "one day". Unfortunately I never seemed to get that feeling I was ready to have children. My issue was that I was too selfish with my time, and couldn't see room to fit anything else in without sacrificing some "lifestyle".

In Ibiza 2004 outside Cafe Mambo, Mrs Jam reminded me that I was already past 30, and if I was serious about having a family, how old exactly did I want to be?

A few drinks and around 9 Months later, Mini Jam I was born (middle name Antoni ;) )

First to admit I struggled for over a year with the change in life, but now there's 2 of them, and I'm glad we had them.

In summary - she was right (as usual).

This is pretty much how I feel. I'm not specifically maternal, I could quite happily go on living and enjoying my life exactly as it is. But at the same time I don't want to get to 40 and regret not having kids.

Damn you biological clock! I was hoping someone would invent a way to cryogenically freeze your body clock, but alas, not in my lifetime.

... and if you are on big dollar wages, you more often than not won't have time to see much of them anyway, and will still have no time to yourself and be knackered all the time !!

I know it's not at the front of everyone's mind - but am I the only person concerned about everyone breeding at such alarming rates?

It annoys me that so many people keep having kids when they cannot afford to keep them properly without subsidies.

For heaven's sake .. if I have to hear about peoples' rights to breed when they have no stable partner, no income and no proper environment in which to bring them up in I think I will honestly pop a cork. I wouldn't dream of having kids if I couldn't give all that but I am expected to stand by, smile benignly and cough up whilst others once again "do what they want" and then we're all expected to pick up the pieces.

YES TOTALLY AGREE!!!

That does my head in too. They just expect everyone else to pick up the pieces.....yet we cant even really think seriously about having them because we both work and dont earn great salaries?

so you are worried or you aren't worried?

I have 2 I'm finished with having children unless there is an accident. I can see 2 until they finish college and I hope become productive members of Society. My older son is finished school and the younger one is just starting. You can not go with a zero population growth, it is the poor countries with large populations and little resources that are the worry.

i'm 30 this year, i've got an 8 year old girl and 6 year old boy. it's hard to describe how different life is before and after kids, literally every second of the day and how that affects your thoughts, actions, decisions.

that said, the feelings you get in return are 10 times more incomparably powerful than anything i'd experienced before and i literally couldn't imagine life without them.

knowing what i know and how it goes, i'd choose to have kids 100% of the time if i had to make the decision over again.
