In England, 73 reported deaths today, last Thurs it was 97. That's near enough 25% reduction week-on-week. With reported deaths being much lower over the weekend -roughtly half the average - (due to closed offices, the figs catch up on Tues/Weds) I can see a zero-deaths day approaching, maybe before April 12th.

Wonder if that would make the news headlines rather than "School shut through covid" or "Thousands of new cases in (insert country).
I predict Sage or Chris Whitty will have some terrible doomsday prediction come April 12th......Exactly a week after Boris has banned international travel for the summer......

I wonder how many flu deaths are in an average flu season?

It wasn't that long ago we had deaths exceeding 1,000 a day, lagging several weeks behind the infection curve. If everyone just holds steady and doesn't go crazy trying to go to bars or have parties and gatherings for a few more weeks while the 12-week lagged 2nd doses are given out to the over-50s and vulnerable I'm pretty sure that death rate can be kept low until the Autumn. That's provided they slam the door firmly shut on all arrivals from Europe and further afield until they get their 3rd wave under control, to prevent the many imported cases which helped wreck the benefits of last year's lockdown. .

3 1/2 months from vaccination to full immunity for the vulnerable is a very long lead time and it'll take until the beginning of July for that process to complete. I'm personally hoping they delay the easings planned for May until the end of June (especially indoor meetings and restaurants/hotels etc) but we shall see on that.

Although on googling, it’s right on the edge and actually looks a pretty decent place. Nice outdoor bit definitely. Gin Mare on the menu too, lovely gin
Hopwas is a nice little village, but Tamworth is second only to Ibiza.

I'll try the Gin Mare

Can't believe you Googled it 🤣🤣🤣

I was told (by my Russian friend) that the Russian vaccine is terrible and has caused a lot of deaths.
I know people in Russia who got Sputnik V (and did thorough research before doing so). There is no credible evidence of deaths due to Sputnik. Lots of Russians are reporting their vaccine experience on social networks (precisely because there is a high mistrust, since it's Putin's prestige project). There is not a single report of severe complications.

A few elderly people died shortly after getting the vaccine (just like with other vaccines), because elderly people, well, die.

The chances of us here obtaining Sputnik are not good anyway. Instead of ordering Sputnik directly, Germany... asked the EU Commission to order it  (that's right - the people who failed miserably doing previous vaccine orders).

If I’m Ibiza I would be trying to figure out how to do direct flights from USA. With all the nonsense going on everywhere else, we might be the only country ready to go this summer, along with Israel.
I wish there was a direct flight! I don’t think there ever was one...

Is flu still around? Japan has nearly exterminated flu with anti-Covid measures - the number of flu cases there dropped by a factor of 100. Which once again shows just how much more contagious Covid-19 is compared to flu.

I 'm sure I read we're to expect a mega-flu season come autumn. I do know people have started getting colds again since the very light easing of restrictions (mainly kids going back to school).
