Still 112 deaths reported in the last 24 hours in the UK from the virus, so still a horrible number even if things are improving. I'm sure most of the gains currently are still from restrictions rather than the vaccine. Some of the right-wing 'freedom' types would be singing a different song if that was 112 deaths a day from terrorism.
It’s dropping though. Rolling 7 day average is 85 and it’s reducing by around 35% a week.

It will to get to the point where we as a nation must accept there is going to be a certain level of mortality caused by covid.

Mrs diver (50 and 11 months young) had the AZ vaccine yesterday. She felt off colour this morning, went to work and now she’s even worse. Standard pain killers aren’t cutting it, she’s normally a tough fecker too.
Try asprin or ibuprofen as none steroid anti inflammatory.

Check in with her gp or number given to contact if goes on much longer.

I was on and off for a week feeling a bit washed out, but no real pain except for shoulder (like pulled muscle for 3+ days)

Yes, we won't know how the vaccines will/won't work unless we get people, especially the over 70's - out there into the wild. The longer we hold everyone indoors the later we find out the vax needs a tweak; and by then it might be too late.

On the plus side, we have a petri-dish called Gibraltar. They are almost free of restrictions having jabbed everyone and also having tight controls as to who comes in. Also being a packed little pronomotory is about as good a test case as you can get.

Hopefully resolves in a further 24hours or so.
Not everyone gets a reaction as bad as that but it's definitely not uncommon.

Israel have proven the vaccines work.

We just need to bide our time a little longer and get as many folk innoculated as possible.

I think part of the problem is that if they change the messaging to always upbeat as the data is showing then they run the risk of people breaking the rules.

By keeping the doom and gloom around it’ll make more folk think twice.
Thing is though it's a fine line between keeping people at bay and not driving people into a deep depression and even suicide, my good pals little sister killed her self the other day.. think that's the 6th or even 7th suicide I know of since lockdown started.. not to say there wasn't mental health issues but If I had to guess what's going on in the world was probably a big factor as well.. some minds are not built for all this up and down carry on, I've said it before but it's true whilst I don't know of anyone who has been even remotely ill from c'19 (obviously I'm lucky) I don't even know anyone who knows of someone who has never mind died... suicide on the other hand is looking like a whole new pandemic

What does the data say, though, in terms of covid deaths vs suicides? There's also an assumption that MH difficulties are due to lockdown rather than bereavement, maybe even the effects of long-term covid. There was a counsellor on ch 4 news tonight saying she was expecting a lot of mental health issues due to all the deaths and people not being able to process death and grieve properly.

Absolutely agree pal. It needs to be a balance and with the vaccines, the scales are very much now tipping towards too much damage being caused vs the lives it is supposed to be saving.

I absolutely agree. So what is the acceptable number of deaths by day, year or whatever from covid?
That’s not for me to decide, but a line must be drawn somewhere. Otherwise you’re in a perpetual cycle of trying to find a better vaccine to fight against the mutations.

How many people die from smoking related causes? 78,000 per year. The government are happy to allow folk to inhale that shit into their lungs regardless of the consequences.

If they could tax covid in some way there wouldn’t be a lockdown 😆

Nothing teaches a virus a lesson more than a good old public uprising
Do you feel the measures throughout Europe being extended every two-three weeks are "teaching the virus a lesson"?

A real public uprising is imminent here if this continues. Lockdowns DO NOT work, death rate has been declining steadily and the highest risks groups are being vaccinated. Variants is a media thing and infection numbers only matter if they are the risk group.
This madness should stop asap.

I agree that deaths of the virus outweigh those taking their own lives, I don't agree that lockdowns should still be in play though to the extent that they are.. I barely go to the boozers but I know many that use them as their outlet, up and down the country pubs were made to put distancing measures in place at a cost just for them to be closed again. And maybe at one stage that was the right time to do so but some normality needs to return sooner than it is imo. We drove through our town a few times over the weekend and the parks, highstreets, what shops were open were chocka which I'm sure is great for families with young ones no judgment on my behalf..the only thing missing was drinking and social establishments, things that young adults need in their life badly ..im sure it's been pointed out that when the pubs / restaurants were open with measures in place they contributed very little to the spread of covid 🤷‍♂️ dont quote me on that though

So you think if (for example) the UK hadn't locked down the death rate wouldn't have been any higher? (You'll have to excuse me if someone has asked you this before.)

Cheers man, will do

I think looking at death rate alone is far too simplistic at this stage of the pandemic and I think you are just playing devil's advocate here.

There are many factors involved with quality of life, mental health is just part of it, and they are all difficult to measure or at least require long term data.

If only it were a more appealing place to visit, and didn't look so much like Britain-by-the-Sea, I'd probably have booked a flight by now !
