Interesting that the UK now require a negative COVID test for flights and all passengers (UK residents or not) from next week. If this stays in place how would Ibiza cope with thousands of tourists needing to get a test before flying home?
No-one will be travelling for fun for at least three months, maybe longer. I assume/hope that they allow those with a vax certificate to fly "normally" - the alternative would be no vax cert then a test is compulsory for some time, probably throughout the summer.
Even if one country (let's say the UK) gets 50-60% vax by summer, may be more hopefully, those restrictions (tests) can't be lifted if other countries are behind.

I do think freedom of speech is important, you may not agree with someone but they are still entitled to that opinion.

I feel weirdly optimistic. Let's just write of the first 3 months of the year....then by the time spring comes, weather improves, things start to open up again, the whole mood will lift. It can't get any worse....can it?

I think I'll be setting my travel expectations to 'low & local' for most of the year. Foreign travel might be possible at some point, but you'll probably need to have been vaccinated and anywhere you go will probably still be under the shadow of covid restrictions.

So I might see a bit more of scenic Scotland.

If I'm not on a flight to Ibiza on June 28th 2021 then shit is going to get real

My major worry at this stage is that while the vaccine can prevent you being ill from covid, I've no idea whether the vax stops covid getting into your body and spreading it to another person.
So if you are vaxxed and on an aircraft, can you still pass it on to someone not vaxxed?
I'm hoping the vax "kills" the covid as soon as it enters so it can't be passed on. If that's the case then we shouldba back to a near-normal within a few months. Basically, if A is vaxxed and sat next to B who isn't, the virus can't pass from A to B, can pass from B to A but A won't get ill.
But no idea - has anyone knowledge of this?

Has anything posted recently been offensive or false? All I've seen is an anti-lockdown opinion which I feel people are well within their rights to hold given the untold socio-economic damage they cause. No evidence they work?...maybe. Nobody likes them...yes. Is it all we have in the UK at the moment?...probably. All valid points.

Not talking about anyone on here, but nowadays society's inability to see anything other than black or white is sad. It's always I'm right and you're wrong and that's that. And the anger felt between the left and right, it's so divisive. I feel like it started with Brexit, US politics, then the general election last year where I felt so under-represented, then more Brexit, and it's gone on throughout the pandemic when nobody knew what was right or wrong from the start.

Anyway on the bright side i'm going to celebrate turning 30 next month by booking Ibiza the first week in October. And my grandma has her 2nd vaccine dose this weekend and she's 81 in 3 weeks so I can give her a birthday hug!

100% spot on.

Completely agree, Elrow definitely has the right to his opinion. I get emotional sometimes with it but it's my choice to come on here after work. Its the 'its a hoax' crowd I struggle with, personally find it really offensive, but we are thankfully free from that here.

I'm not part of the "it's a hoax" crowd and never was. Never intend to upset you either.

Marcel Levi is a Dutch doctor and CEO of University College London Hospitals.
In that position he is the acting director of 17 hospitals in London.

Yesterday he stated in an interview in dutch I can provide you guys with if you have any doubts:

"The British corona variant everyone is talking about is no different than the 'older' covid19. People get just as sick and it doesn't look that much more contagious because we are seeing it less and less and the same amount of people end up in hospitals"

To me the whole 'British variant' felt like fear spreading before Xmas family dinners, at least in the Netherlands, can't speak for the UK.

I can explain a lot about why I dont believe the full / extreme lockdowns don't work in our society, but no one is interested anyway so I'll refrain from that. Only talking about the Netherlands now...but what upsets me even more than the Lockdowns itself is the ever-changing indicator or gauge used for them.
  • At first it was about the death toll (feb/march)
  • Then it was about ICU beds (April / may)
  • After summer it was about hospitalizations as whole, relief the pressure on healthcare (September/October)
  • This winter the politicians shifted that again, lockdown-light because of rising positive PCR tests (November / December)
  • Last few days it's becoming clear it is changing again, it will now be all about how much people in the country are vaccinated

British variant is too sadly real. To be fair I initially thought it was a scare tactic

I know you're not mate and never thought you did. I'm obviously quite invested in it emotionally but defend you're right to have your own views
And I know you and your co-workers are working their asses of. Deserves all my respect.

I'm just really opposed to the lockdowns, like I've been saying for months here... I know it does not make me a popular forum member, but that's fine. There's one thing we can all agree on though, the situation is still f*cked up and I hope things get better soon for everyone.
