for the fans of the swedish model, I just read they are contemplating restrictions for stockholm. nothing decided yet, but their numbers are also growing and it seems this time they might act a little differently.
Hi Stivi, long time. Hope you are all well. As you maybe remember I’m the swedish guy who lives in Santa Eulalia?

Can you please explain what you mean with the Swedish Model? I’m really intrested in what you @Elrowlover, @Moha and others in this thread mean when you use that expression or the expression the Swedish strategy. I have seen it beeing used mainly in british or american press. But I have never seen an definition what it really is. I’m also intressed in what they will do different this time? I follow the Swedish media quite close and I have not seen any new major changes been discused but maybe I have missed something. Thanks

Went out last night for the first time since the rules tightened and have to say I found it all a nonsence.

I was asked by the bouncer to put a face mask on to get to my table, table was as it happens just inside the door so 2 steps away. Then of course sat and drank and chatted for a few hours with no mask. Then it was mask back on to go to the Toilet.

Im no scientist but surely all that mask touching is worse than just no mask at all? Not faulting the pub I was in, they are simply following the rules.

Then it felt weird to be going home at 10, usually thats the time the night either splits off into a big one or a quiet one. Have seen in the media the 10 o'clock finish is just resulting in queues in off licences and for taxi's so again not sure is really an improvement.

The Swedish choice/strategy/aim/target, was herd immunity.
Strategy is just comprehensible in most languages.

That's a (too) simple explanation of their strategy.
It's about common sense and keeping people responsible for their own health instead of taking away their responsibilities and making normal daily acts of freedom subject of governmental decisions. Herd Immunity is a nice side-effect of that strategy.
And the Swedish government was opposed to lockdowns because it would be the same as killing a mosquito with a canon.

And like I said earlier...if I look at their numbers and current situation compared to the rest of Europe..they're not doing that bad. Has anyone seen a follow-up to that article from lastweek saying Sweden was thinking about some restrictions in Stockholm?

This is the second time I've seen you describe the first wave as a mosquito or similar. I'm sure it's not your intention but I find it really insulting. The first wave in the UK saw tens of thousands of deaths, a huge amount of trauma and definitely wasnt a 'mosquito'.

Definitly not my intention Hally and I apologize if it came over as insulting. I was quoting Tegnell from Sweden. I don't think it's a mosquito either, but I do think (as you know) the lockdown is not the answer so I think that's what's Tegnell is saying.

Not just covid, BTW. Lack of sunshine is problematic for us in general.

Ive been taking VitaminD in Winter for a few years as I do get a bit down in Winter. Even though im a Northern Englishman I like being out in the Sun. My mood is usually ok until New Year as Xmas is a distraction, but January & February are grim, just cold & dark and everyone is skint.

I think taking it has helped (though could be a placibo of course!)

Back when I lived in the USA, February and March were brutal. I miss the fall and winter, but I am only good for about a month's worth before the dark and cold get tired.

Never tried to suplememnt with vitamin D. They did put it in the cheap milk though that I drank as a kid. Imagine the effects of a vitD insufficent body is cumulative and maybe accounts for a lot of the cronic illness that people see as they age, that and shitty diets.

Anyway, sex and sunshine cure everything... alone, or in combination.
