The papers today report that any UK citizen going to Spain will be faced with two week's quarantine in a tit-for-tat response to the UK insisting that incomers have to quarantine for two weeks. Dialogue's supposed to be open between the countries for air-corridors, but put it this way -
If the UK had air corridors with Spain and the other EU countries, the couldn't have with the USA because the situation's so bad over there, which would be a huge embarrassment for Trump (It would be the UK's way of saying "you're doing shit, mate") so he would turn against the UK when we are trying to make trade deals outside the EU.

So thanks to Brexit we'll have to wait, and wait, and wait until we are released.

I just don't see how it could be enforced tbh... thinking back to how rowdy Brits in Benidorm just completely ignored the Sp police back in Feb.

as annoying as it is I just can't see the logic in a tit for tat at this stage, with the Spanish depending a lot more on British tourism than vice versa

does seem to be a feeling of one step forward two steps back at this point

I've looked at it from a different perspective. The UK based airlines are desperate for boris to get rid of the UK quarantine as a lot of people won't book until it is removed. By bringing this up now it means the uk government may well have to address it sooner rather than wait until the end of the month. The transport minister was on this morning saying they are working on stuff behind the scenes so with this and the court case the airlines are bringing i think it has increased the pressure on uk to change its mind. Something it does a lot these days...

yeah true, either way I hope pressure from somewhere works as whats in place now is reeking havoc for airlines, foreign tourism sector and holiday makers alike

Pre-print of a study released that indicates Dexamethasone, a common steroid medication, has efficacy among people with severe disease requiring oxygen and ventilation. In the study it was about 20% decrease in deaths. Corticosteroids have been believed to have some impact on treating "cytokine storm" which could be where this is having an effect.

It does not seem to improve people who are sick but have sufficient lung function.

This wont change the world overnight, but every small tool we can add to manage illness is a step towards normalizing daily life.

a glimmer of hope?

If it's about the Oxford medicine...looks promising from what I can read about it here. Also, it seems to be in the news everywhere and hospitals in different countries are claiming it's indeed effective. Dutch IC-departments have ackknowledged using it now too.

While everyone was looking for a vaccin...a medicine might put an end on a lot of measures too.

I personally would much prefer a medicine/cure rather than a vaccine

Could be a big development. If 'healthy' people know they can catch Corona and even if symptoms get bad and they are hospitalised they are very likely to survive then its pretty much pandemic over. People will take the risk and get on their normal lives.

Particualarly if we also get conformation that if you've had it you wont get it again, or wont get it anywhere near as bad.

From what just seen is that if you don't need oxygen, then has no beneficial effect. But on oxygen death reduced by 20% and around 1/3 if on ventilator.

So still pretty serious then, and for me i'd not take the risk and continue to behave, but others have a more carefree attitude and will see it as a sign you can just do what you like and the hospital can save you.
