I'm eyeing up one of Spotlights chosen 5* hotels, Five Bloody Flowers on Formentera, although it does look very bland inside and doesn't seem to tick the boxes for me. But when it's all over a week's luxury is on the cards. Maybe I'll just have an apartment near the lagoon, no point in having an outdoor pool before mid-June when the water's too cold for a softie like me.

fingers crossed, but hasn't this already reached the tropics too?
Its been here. I dont know how strict other all islands have been. In the USVI we have had a very loose "stay at home" policy. For example we only lost access to the beach for two weeks (to keep people from congregating in large groups at Easter). We also have had a ban on gatherings of more than 10 people. Our neigbor to the west, Puerto Rico, has operated with a slightly more strict lock-down and curfew. Brittish Virgin Islands to the east is in complete lockdown, having designated days for grocery shopping. Bigger islands have more cases.

In the USVI there has not been a lot of community transmission (confirmed/ tested), however as I have stated previously I think this virus burned through here back in December/ January with cruise ship visitors. We have one active case with three deaths and 51 recoveries. The numbers...

great news for everyone there. Seems obvious to me now that they won’t risk that progress by allowing tourism in this summer, would be madness to have people flying in from infected countries all over the place then dispersing all over the world again.

certainly not until those countries in question improve too. it's not even may yet, I still think some form of tourism might be possible in late summer. we'll see.

I'm noticing the inflation though. small entrecotes at supermarket now costing 11€, toilet paper 8€, a fcking kitkat €1.50 (this is
Could get you a raised rotating bed with non premium drinks and snacks at Ocean Beach ?

5 day
not Waitrose)

given the price of petrol has collapsed it is shameless (unless of course there is an genuine shortage of food/farm labour?)

Makes no sense to open tourism.
And also I think : No tourists from spain , too

it's a tricky one. tourism is such a massive industry sector, in the entire country, not just on the balearics. we'll have to see how the pandemic continues, but the economic pressure will become overwhelming at some point I guess
I personally think we will see many countries current attitudes towards time scales U-Turn when it gets closer to what would of been the start of the boom for the season, rightly or wrong can just see it happening as financial pressure will definitely become more apparent

And a big part of success is away ...
If a second wave will come, you will sit in your flat again. And we in germany , UK , Italy and other countfies , too.

In Ibiza you can be careful ( no clubs , distancing and so on ). But not in a plane or a bus.

A friend of mine who was due to have his wedding in August (in Ireland) was told they need to reduce the numbers by 100 and that its very unlikely that there will be a bar at the wedding ?

Interesting that the U.K. government is considering a two week quarantine on people entering the country. If in place then that would end the remote chance of summer holidays. Amazing really that there are no current measures for people coming in the country right now.

Your right older people will definitely be more cautious about flying, I dont think anyone young cares though everyone seems to be dying to get away at this point and it's not even summer?

I must be an older person then. ? I think the most I'm willing to do now this year is maybe some sort of walking holiday in Scotland or the Lakes, but even that depends on how far restrictions are lifted by the end of August.

I thought that too. And it's not like in some other countries that literally take you to a quarantine camp (eg Australia). Its basically traveller saying where there will be in the country and promising not to move from there for 2 weeks.?

Perhaps they only looking at introducing it if number of travellers from other countries increase. Most incoming travel is uk people returning home afaik. (I'm still amazed at numbers who decided to go on jollies in March and now stuck abroad)

I have also heard many people say they can't wait to book their hols again after canceling but most are going to rebook it for 2021 abroad

I was planning on going UK for a week this year... I wont now I don't think...

Amazes me this.

Approaching week 6 of a wishy washy UK lockdown and the govt are only considering this now.

Should of been one of the first things they did.

Classic UK govt fumbling their way through stuff.
