Not gonna be abusive or have a go mate but you are really misinformed, but young people ARE spending a month on a ventilator and also dying from this.
With regards underlying health conditions, you do realise people are living completely normal lives with these conditions which for the most part include, diabetes and hypertension.
I assume your probably shitin it and clinging to the hope You're gonna be ok. Hopefully so, but others will listen to uninformed information and go further, ignoring measures put in place to protect EVERYONE.
If you're confident in your theory, put it to the test. Volunteer at a local charity to do shopping for vulnerable people who can't leave their homes or better still in a hospital setting.
I'm working in a hospital and believe me, not nearly enough is known about this to be making assumptions, offensive as they are to anyone who is suffering through this.
Lol, it really is impossible to have a normal discussion here.

Please prove me wrong by numbers then, because it's commonly known and published in all countries by the governments that the MAJORITY of people dying are either old or were dealing with other health issues before they got the virus. So I'm not saying there are no young people catching the virus...I'm just saying it's a minority and that there's even a smaller minority dying from it.

Also I just pointed out that its really tragic a young kid died...but the reply left out a very important fact..namely that the kid had underlying health problems. Now we will never know what the underlying conditions were because of privacy regulations and therefor it's not easy to judge about it.

Lastly, I was not making assumptions anywhere in my reply. Good luck with your work in the hospital, tough times I can imagine. Stay safe.

There are a lot of younger people which are not dying. But they have serios healt problems after the infection and
need treathment at a hospital.
That means you will overload the system
I can imagine and I did not say anything that contradicts that. My reply was about casualties and about the media spreading fear.
They will publish a 21 year old UK girl died of the virus. But if after a few days that turns out to be untrue...they will not get back on that.
The headline of the article was: 5 year old kid died. But you have to read the entire article to see the kid had underlying health issues (whatever they may be, my heart still goes out to the poor family off course. I have kids myself, I don't want to imagine what they will be going through).

But in these times we dont need fear to take over. I think if the pandemic proves us one thing, it's the power of the media and how they misuse it. Social media platforms (with a forum being a very old variation of that) must be smarter than that.

? your replies read as you looking for excuses why young are dying; they special cases, so it's ok, mostly old peeps gonna suffer and die.

The media makes a point of young deaths so young people take it more seriously as they not adhering to rules as well as other demographics.

Maybe it just reads differently in your head and it's how its written on page, but does seem a little myopic imho?‍♂️

Never said it was ok. And yeah, English is not my primary language so that might not help ?
But if you look at what I post...just an addition that the kid in this case did have underlying health issues and try to point out we should be wary of how the media can try to scare us...the replies are actually kinda off topic and seem to just have found a reason to vent out some emotions.

The media scaring us is actually warranted in this case!

People didn't do what asked, didn't take it seriously and had to be told.

I still see people not taking it seriously, and probably won't unless someone close is really bad with it. These people have failure of imagination and so the media needs to do it's part.

I call these people "mouth breathers". Jaw slack breathing through mouth and a bit clueless ?

Just think for a moment. One (or possibly a few others) either at a bat or a pangolin.

Fast forward 3 months, millions infected (confirmed and real number). Tens of thousands dead. Well funded & 1st rate health care systems on their knees.

Fear is defo something that should be felt imho.

Appreciate that, but here in Ireland we're not even getting specific locations of clusters, let alone specific breakdowns of who's in ICU.
What i do know is theres been several instances of cases where both young enough, supposedly healthy parents of children have ended up needing assistance to breathe and in the case of people, mainly foreign workers there was nobody to look after their children while their here in hospital.
Often now the children are very symptomatic, so you can imagine the logistics alone let alone the terror felt by all involved.
This is essentially a 9/11 times 10 but in slow motion. There's a natural self protecting cognitive dissonance going on where people dont want to think of the faces faces and families behind the numbers.
All in all, i know its a forum for all opinions, but its frustrating knowing people still think its just a flu and you are putting out some crazy opinions . I dont think you consciously mean to upset people but believe me your posts won't age well as this progresses.
I'd sooner buy you a sangia at Sa Trinxa with you than argue about stuff. Stay safe

I thought that was obvious no?
Here they pretty much stated that when the schools close they won't reopen until Sept.

We have a friend who's high up at director level in a Local Authority in England. She's told us they're hoping September as a best case scenario, but there's planning in place around a January return to school. Hopefully the measures being taken mean it can be September, because my wife manages a children's mental health service and although working from home, she's already working 8 til 8 and never been busier. The schools only closed 2 weeks ago. January is unthinkable about the effect it could have, and that's just on the kids.

This definitely aint no flu!
And the sangria at Sa Trinxa sounds great. Let's hope everyone stays healthy so that's our future again.

Lets hope so amigo, the sooner people realise this thing spreads like a common cold and is potentially lethal to anyone the better, so better to be over prepared than under.
Sooner its eradicated, this will be day zero

I don't think January is realistic at all.

The schools need to go back in Sept. Just as buisnesses will need to be allowed to operate again (long before Sept)

Agreed.
I think schools in the Netherlands will resume in May, perhaps 1st of June.

Tragic...
but still very very rare.

And also this is the exact press statement:
A five-year-old child with underlying health conditions has died after testing positive for coronavirus, NHS England has said.

The other day there was a 21 year old that was suppose to have no underlying health conditions but it turned out she had no corona, but a heart attack. The spreading of fear is something the 'pandemedia' does everyday. We have to keep with the facts and the facts are...that the majority of casualties is either elderly (80 years or older) and/or has severe underlying health problems, such as heart problems, diabetes, cancer, autoimmune decease.
The facts are also that people in any age category can be severely affected by the virus all be it they are more likely to endure a milder illness.

And????????

my girlfriend is generally fit and healthy, 30 years old. She had pneumonia last summer and has been classified by the NHS as at risk of COVID-19. Mental that basically the attitude of some posters is ‘oh well underlying health issues, probably die anyway’

very selfish, odd behaviour in my opinion

Just read back a lot of replies, including my own.
No one has shown that attitude.
A few pages back I wrote: the vast majority of the casualties are people that would have died anyway in the coming 5 years. I reckon and hope that is NOT the category your girlfriend falls in. Besides with that comment I did not say let them die. I did however question the way we are trying to save those people by basically shutting down and locking up the world and creating other long term economic and health problems for people who actually do have a longer life expectancy.

The problem with this thread is..people keep twisting words and framing replies in a certain corner to be able to vent out their own emotions.
The reason why I keep replying is because I think it should be a very normal thing to debate the measures we just blindly accepted in the past 3 weeks. However every reply is getting turned and twisted into something else ?‍♂️ That's more odd behavior if you'd ask me.
It goes without saying I hope your girlfriend gets through this and stays healthy.

That's too soon. Might aswell just keep them off for summer?

When are the usual school holidays in Holland?
Why too soon? The lockdown is slated to end here at April 28th. Events still forbidden till June 1st.
Usual holiday starts in July. I think the government and schools want to do a quick run-up on basic things like reading, maths and writing before schoolyear ends. With the current downtrend of the virus in the Netherlands...I think it's possible to open schools in may, shops/business in June and events larger than 1000 people after summer.

Your just trolling now surely mate.
Forget about anything normal this side of August at least.
There's literally thousands of people dying and admittedly it is pretty surreal and hard for anyone to get their head around, but this f***er has pretty much shut down summer.
A miracle drug would always be welcome obviously.

Who knows really? So many factors to speak about here. Local virus situation in Ibiza, situations four tourist flying in. Will nations even open traffic towards Spain and back and so on and so forth. Still think sep-oct very possible.
