here's another weekend update...

today, the nationwide state of alarm ended in spain. in various areas (our 'autonomías') the nightly curfew ended with that, but as you may have read, here on the balearics, it continues for another two weeks. it's not the only area within spain btw. so from today onwards and until 23rd may for now, these rules are valid:

  • bars & restaurants may open and fill 100% of their outdoor areas and stay open all day until 10:30pm every day.
  • the nighttime curfew is still valid between 11pm until 6am
  • to get to the balearics, you still need a negative PCR test
  • reunions are limited to 6 people at a time
wearing a mask is also still mandatory (apart from being on the beach or while practising sports). the balearic government has insinuated that if the evolution of the pandemic stays that good (read on for this), we may expect looser rules from 23rd may onwards - maybe the end of the nightly curfew and opening of inside bits of restaurants and such (all TBC). I know I'm repeating myself, but the local authorities have made it clear they'll take it one step at a time and rather be slow now and be overly cautious and with that guarantee a proper long season instead of opening everything quickly and risking another wave of infections which could harm (or fcuk up) the summer.

this is the current epidemiological situation

  • ibiza's 14d incidence per 100k pop is at 37, the 7d one is at 11. positivity rate is at 1.5%. stable and safe.
  • formentera is currently corona free!
  • vaccine progress: according to the gov't we're now at 28% of pop with one (or single) dose and 12% with both jabs. as you can see the numbers do go up every time I post an update.

the last few days have also brought a summer feeling. we went to beachouse's opening on friday - the beach club and restaurant was buzzing and it really almost felt normal (with the exception of having to put on your mask if you need to walk to the toilet from your bed or table). then we went to formentera, which is still quiet, but absolutely gorgeous and since it's all about the beaches while you're there, you really only need the mask quickly when entering a supermarket or to enter a restaurant and until you're at your table.

of course the news coming from the UK regarding all of spain staying on 'amber' for now was a dampener, but we stay optimistic this will be reversed in a few weeks with the good epidemiologic situation we have and the vaccination campaign picking up speed.

update...

epidemiological situation:

  • yesterday's 14d incidence per 100k pop was at 36 and the 7d one at 12 for ibiza. in last 24hrs we've had just one newly detected case so the incidence will stay at those numbers (or go a little lower actually). safe and stable situation.
  • 29.3% of pop have had their first (or single) jab, 12% fully vaccinated.

ibiza season news:

  • here's a preview on how we think the season might pan out from a nightlife point of view with what we currently know https://www.ibiza-spotlight.com/magazine/2021/05/ibiza-clubbing-2021-quo-vadis
  • and here's an article about places that are already open now (or open soon) and that provide a bit of entertainment https://www.ibiza-spotlight.com/magazine/2021/05/ibiza-entertainment-options-may-june-2021 in case you plan on coming to ibiza in may and june
  • also, since we had people asking, these are the current rules regarding entry into spain. EU citizens may travel - a negative PCR test is needed to get to the balearics. non-EU members currently cannot enter spain just yet, with the exception of these nationalities: australia, israel, ruanda, singapore, south corea, thailand and china (same rules apply, a negative PCR test is needed). source is today's BOE (the official bulletin of the state). we think soon more states will be added to that list, we shall update whenever anything changes.
  • ibiza gay pride, normally happening in june, has been postponed to september 10-18

update with a few opening dates...

  • kumharas in the bay of san antonio opens this friday 14 may
  • blue marlin in cala jondal opens 22 may
  • tanit beach ibiza on playa d'en bossa opens 29 may

summer is on its way and this year, ibiza is definitely happening!

while we can't wait to go to sa trinxa tomorrow afternoon and then to kumharas for the sunset (amongst a few other places en route...), here's another update:

epidemiological situation
  • as per yesterday, the 14d incicende per 100k pop was at 32 for ibiza, the 7d one at 15. the latest recount that just came in gave just one newly detected case here in ibiza in the past 24hrs and the positivity rate for the entire archipelago is at 0.54% which is really low. very favourable situation here, I won't get tired of repeating that... also the hospitals here are at their lowest occupation since mid july last year.
  • vaccine count: 30.1% of balearic pop have had their first or single shot, 12.8% have had both. poc a poc! also, the spanish central government has just announced that in june, 13M doses from pfizer alone will arrive, so that'll be 2.7M a week rather than the 1.7M a week the country currently receives just from that company. so the vaccine campaign speed will increase even more as we head into summer.

ibiza season news
  • for foodies, sa carbonería and o galego (both in santa eulalia) as well as restaurante salvadó (in pou d'es lleo) are back open for business
  • bambuddha opens 21st may

in other news, the central government has also announced the return of spectators to football stadiums in areas with a low incidence. it's obviously with a limit (30% of stadium capacity and capped at 5000 max) and with other measures (you have to wear a mask and there are temperature checks at the entrance), but it's a start and it does give hope for the return of other outdoor gatherings... 😎

as usual, more news as we have it.

and we've got some more today...

  • half an hour ago they've opened vaccine appointments for ages 50+, it's really going pretty swiftly now (soon it'll be our turn too!)
  • cala bassa beach club opens its beach club (the main bit) tomorrow
  • restaurante las dos lunas opens 3 june

just a quick weekend upate

  • the 14d incidence per 100k pop on the balearics as a whole has gone below 50 again - it's currently at 46 for the entire archipelago. ibiza is at 25 which is great.
  • vaccine %: 31.1% of pop have had first (or single) jab, 13.7% have had both.

more news next week!

here's a quick update with some news that just came in

  • epidemiological situation keeps being very favourable here - we've had two new cases over the weekend and the incidence keeps being very low. vaccination campaign is progressing nicely, one person from team spotlight has had a first jab today and more are getting their first one later this week (it's not my turn just yet)
  • the nightly curfew changes a bit from 23rd may onwards and will be from MIDNIGHT to 6am (not 11pm anymore). also social reunions outside will be allowed for up to 8 people now (inside still 6). this new rule will be in place for two weeks it seems and then it might change a little again.

here's another update...

epidemiological situation

  • on a spanish national level, the number of new infections has today hit a new record low level (just under 4000 newly detected cases), a figure we've not seen since mid august last year! and even if the difference in incidence is still varying greatly between autonomías, it's going in the right direction in the entire country.
  • as I've previously said the balearics have been looking safe for a while now and it keeps getting better. today ibiza has re-entered the low-risk zone defined by the european centre of disease prevention and control which is a positivity rate of below 4% (ibiza is at 1.3%) and a 14d incidence per 100k inhabitants of less than 25 (ibiza is at 24). formentera is in that zone too btw.
  • the vaccination is going ahead well - here on ibiza we're now reaching 1000 jabs a day and every day you hear from a few other friends that they got their first shot. almost a third of balearic pop has now had their first shot and 14% have had both.

ibiza season news

  • ibiza really is starting to wake up now. even though we're currently of course missing the UK market, tourists are arriving from EU countries and step by step the season starts
  • bora bora opens tomorrow (currently in beach club format w/o dancefloor) and pikes opens on thursday, two more legendary places open for the summer!
  • in a statement the balearic gov't has said the proposal made by ocio de ibiza (the nightlife association) is well thought and very considerate and serious. while that's no guarantee for anything just yet, it's a first step of acknowledging the nightlife industry.

here's today's update with some long awaited news...

epidemiological situation

  • still stable and low - won't bore you with numbers today.

news on entry into spain and balearics:

  • the EU has agreed it will accept non-EU tourists that have been fully vaccinated (second jab done minimum two weeks before arrival) with a vaccine that's accepted in the EU (currently: pfizer, moderna, astrazeneca and j&j which is single dose). the agreement still needs to be formalized (tomorrow probably) and then needs to be published in the EU bulletin, but it seems as this could happen in the very next few days. the way I understand it, you would then also not need a negative PCR test anymore. I believe that if you aren't vaccinated and want to travel you will soon be able too, but you will then need a negative PCR - this bit isn't confirmed yet though. here's a newspiece in spanish https://www.periodicodeibiza.es/not...bre-fronteras-para-extranjeros-vacunados.html
  • the above should obviously also be valid for EU tourists, (the piece about no more PCR test being necessary if fully vaccinated) but we'll confirm
  • lastly, for spanish domestic travel coming into balearics, if you're vaccinated, the PCR test mandate will be gone by saturday night. if you're NOT vaccinated yet, you have to present either a negative PCR or (and that's new) an antigen test. and you are exempt from that rule if your autonomía has a 14d incidence of less than 60.

news on clubbing

here's a late, but pretty comprehensive update (we just got back from pikes opening - so good to see it come alive!!)

epidemiological situation
  • 14d incidence per 100k pop is at 22 for ibiza, 7d is at 11. low & stable...
  • a third of balearic pop has gotten their first (or single) vaccine, nearly 15% have had both. it's progressing well.
ibiza season news
  • from this sunday onwards, the rules change a little again for the forthcoming two weeks (until 6th june that is)
  • the nightly curfew will be valid from midnight until 6am
  • private/social reunions are allowed for up to 8 people outdoors and 6 people indoors. keep in mind in restaurants the max is still only 4 people per table though so if you are a group of 6 or 8 you'll be at two seperate tables.
  • bars and restaurants here can use all their outdoor space and stay open until 11pm.
  • indoor bits of bars and restaurants may now also open, but only daytime until 6pm, and at 30-50% capacity depending on whether they have outdoor bits too or just indoor spaces.
clubbing news
little by little we are indeed regaining normalcy.

more news coming next week...or maybe even tomorrow. but yes, ibiza is waking up now.

update:

spain has changed their rules regarding requirements for entry into the country.

  • UK citizens may enter spain from monday 24 may onwards without having to present any pcr or antigen test. the UK currently still requires quarantine and two negative PCR tests on return to the UK though - let's hope this changes soon too. the way I understand the latest news that have just come out this includes unvaccinated people too. the UK will thus be added to the list of these countries where people can enter from without any restrictions: UK, japan, china, australia, new zealand, singapore, israel, south korea, thailand and ruanda.
  • for all other countries, from 7th june onwards you can enter if you are fully vaccinated or if not with a negative PCR test (EU citizens can already enter now, but until 7th june a negative PCR test is needed no matter if you are vaccinated or not as far as I undertand)

monday update

epidemiological situation
  • no big news, the incidence keeps being very low. 14d for ibiza is at 24, for the entire baleric archipelago it's at 39, the 7d for ibiza is at 11 and for the archipelago it's at 18.
  • vaccination progress: 36,1% of balearic population has had first/single shot, 15,1% both shots
  • also, on a spanish national level the covid numbers keep improving continuously and various autonomías are now often reporting days without any covid deaths.
  • the first few autonomías are now starting to open up vaccination for all adult ages. the balearics aren't at this stage just yet (currently at +50 yrs only), but it can't be long before we'll get to this step.

ibiza season news
  • katie knight and yours truly had a chat about how this season might pan out... watch it here:

here's some news you wanna read

in short, outdoor clubbing test should happen in second part of june and then outdoor venues (or venues with outdoor areas) could then open start/middle of july (outdoor areas only).

then an indoor clubbing test should happen in the second part of july and after that the indoor areas of clubs might open in august.

this isn't fully confirmed yet, but in the last few days I've heard lots of similar rumours from within the industry and things are slowly getting more and more specific now. and it looks like the balearic government is following the same pattern they used for the hospitality sector where first only the outdoor bits were allowed and now indoor bits are back open too.

we WILL be dancing again at some point this summer!

another quick update:

- vaccination for ages 45 and older opens this afternoon. next turn will be ours!
- vaccination % is now at 37.6% first/single jab, 16% completely vaccinated
- very low incidence, 18 new cases only in last 24hrs on the entire balearic archipelago and test positivity rate of 0.53% only

and here's one last update before the weekend (unless something urgent comes in later still)

epidemiological situation
  • covid infection numbers keep being low & stable. if you check this link (it's the latest report that just came out an hour ago), you'll see on page three that the entire balearic archipelago has always been in the 25-50 new daily cases range over the past month now http://www.caib.es/pidip2front/jsp/adjunto?codi=2651940&idioma=ca and it's now a week since the last covid-related death has been reported. if you are keen on checking numbers yourself, this here gets updated regularly https://www.caib.es/sites/covid-19/ca/visor_covid-19_illes_balears/
  • vaccination % is now 38% first/single shot, 16,4% completely vaccinated. as mentioned yesterday, the +45yrs bracket is now starting, so the % is gonna go up further quite a bit next week.

ibiza season news
  • if you follow us on socials you'll see lots of places are now opening, from hotels, to bars, restaurants and beach clubs, over to shops and businesses offering activities. this year really feels much more like a 'normal' ibiza year again, everyone wants to open and what isn't open just yet will open up in the coming weeks. the island is getting busy and the prospect of the balearics hopefully getting on the green UK travel list in 10 days time (fingers crossed) is really motivating everyone here. by the end of june ibiza will be fully open with the exception of the clubs (read on for that).
  • with the vaccination % going up and the incidence staying that low, it's almost certain that the restrictions will get relaxed further from 6 june onwards. we shall of course let you know when we get the next update - should be midweek next week. maybe no more nightly curfew finally?
  • next week we also might get a few more details as to when and where exactly the clubbing test events are gonna happen. as mentioned, the outdoor one will happen first (and then outdoor clubbing will be back) and the indoor one will then come in a second stage. there are of course lots of rumours around about the where & when, but as usual, you'll get the factual info here as soon as it's good to go. please don't ask us regarding tickets for those test events (yeah, it already happened lots this week), we simply don't know yet how that's gonna work. of course we will let everyone know once we know!

happy weekend everyone!

a quick update to start the week with...

epidemiological situation
  • same low & stable incidence on the entire balearic archipelago, data here https://www.caib.es/sites/covid-19/ca/visor_covid-19_illes_balears/
  • no covid related deaths in the last 10 days
  • vaccination campaign is now at 39.4% first/single shot and 17.4% fully vaccinated. this week the balearics are also getting the biggest shipment of vaccines yet.

ibiza season news

whoa the last 24hrs were eventful!

ibiza season news

  • yesterday evening, pretty much out of the blue, first on social media and later in the island media, there was a report about the balearic government replying to a request with a very surprising negative response. in all the balearics, while the pandemic is still ongoing, DJs weren't gonna be allowed to perform anywhere! I'm sure you've seen the announcements in the last few weeks with small events happening in the beach clubs, sunset cafés and other venues, were DJs were booked to play (remember it's still no dancing here - it's literally just about soundtracking the afternoon/sunset/around dinner etc). so after over a year with no clubs open and thus all our island resident DJs being out of work and not getting any (or not lots) of government help, the news exploded like a bomb. the last twelve hours were manic, with just about everyone involved somehow in the industry getting active and vocal about this unfair situation (while live musicians are allowed). the backlash and outcry was massive, and this time, even ibiza's island council was on the industry's side and intervened with the balearic government (which has its head quarters over in palma). and in a pretty rare reversal, just a few hours ago, the balearic government has backtracked and puts DJs on the same status as live musicians and bands and lets them perform. it's still the same rules for the coming few weeks - no dancing and no actual loud music - but at least the DJs can work in the daytime venues and we get a little music. here's an article about it https://www.diariodeibiza.es/pitius...js-ibiza-pie-guerra-prohibicion-52483259.html
  • also, if you've read yesterday's update you'll have read that from sunday onwards we won't have a nightly curfew anymore. another advanced info we got today is that from this sunday onwards, finally more people can be together in a restaurant - instead of the 4 per table it'll be 8, as long as it's outdoors. indoors will stay at 4 for now. also, both interior and terraces will be allowed to stay open until midnight for now and until 20 june. there might be more details to follow still in the next few days https://www.diariodeibiza.es/pitius...-restaurantes-podran-8-personas-52482841.html

edited: restaurants may stay open until midnight, not until 23:30h from 6 june onwards. 8 people together max outdoors, 4 people indoors.

one more update for today

https://cadenaser.com/emisora/2021/06/01/radio_ibiza/1622567061_629302.html

  • clubbing outdoor test to be held at the end of june or start of july in one of the venues with outdoor areas
  • max 2000 people and a dancefloor with 500 people
  • all attendees will either have to prove they've had covid, have been vaccinated or they will have to pass an antigen test which will be paid for by the venue of the test event
all going well, two weeks after that, outdoor things might start in a best case scenario. fingers crossed!

quick one...

epidemiological situation
  • we've had a few more cases in the last two days, the 14d incidence per 100k pop is at 44 now which is still very ok. nothing crazy
  • vaccination % is now at 40.2% first shot and 17.6% second shot
