just a quick update with the latest on the epidemiologic situation here on ibiza. finally things start looking better (esp if you compare to previous posts from a few weeks ago)

- the 14d incidence per 100k pop has come down to below 1000 (after being at nearly 1800 in the second half of july) and is now at 836
- the test positivity rate is also lower now (mind it was at 20% mid july) and is currently at 12%
- hospital numbers are also improving, 63 in hospital, 12 in ICU (this one is still too high though)
- vaccination % is now at 77% of adult pop 1st shot and almost 70% (69.7) of adult pop with both shots (this is balearics generally, not just ibiza).

overall on the balearics the situation has improved a lot. the only value that still gives headache is the ICU occupation level. and overall on a spanish national level, today we seem to be hitting the 70% of adult pop fully vaccinated mark. in spain the vaccination campaign is going really well and I believe we've got some of the highest vaccination rates of the entire EU?

so all numbers are pointing in the right direction and in difference to last year when the summer wave of infections cost us our tourist season, this year, the season is still going really well and from what I can tell we are looking at a very strong september and end of season ahead. as you've maybe seen, o beach have just announced they'll stay open until 17 october. maybe others will follow suit?

never giving up hope, maybe we will get a cheeky dance at some point this year still who knows?

here's another update

epidemiological situation:
- 14d incidence per 100k pop is now at 686 for ibiza. 7d test positivity rate is at 11%.
- hospital situation gets better (47 currently), but ICU still a little high (12).
- vaccination is at 78% of balearic adult pop first shot and 72% fully jabbed. in full population numbers this translates to 60% of ibiza folk with the full job done.

as said in previous posts, it's all getting better but it takes time.

ibiza season news:
- the government has just confirmed the currently valid rules will be kept up. they will be reviewing this weekly, but numbers need to get much better before any big changes will be made.
- as posted elsewhere yesterday, various airlines will continue their direct flights between ibiza and european cities for longer than usual, in some cases until mid november. https://www.periodicodeibiza.es/pit...an-vuelos-ibiza-hasta-mediados-noviembre.html late season trip anyone?!

another quick update.

epidemiological situation:
  • the situation keeps improving. the last two daily recounts both gave less than 10 new daily cases for ibiza and formentera combined (something we've not seen in weeks!) and the incidence keeps dropping. the 14d rate per 100k pop is now at 605 and the 7d test positivity rate is just below 9%.
  • hospital and icu situation is also going in the right direction, 8 people in ICU now and can misses hospital is returning to a more normal work mode again.
  • vaccination is close to 79% of adult pop with a first shot and 73.5% of adult pop with both shots.
the good vaccine uptake on the balearics (in spain generally to be honest) and the fact quite a lot of people caught covid here very recently (mainly in the past two to three months and almost all of them because of indoor gatherings somewhere) and thus help the immunity rate give hope that we are looking ahead to a 'quieter' period to finish this summer season with.

will all the patient folk be rewarded by the local government with a legally approved outdoor dance at the end of the season? we'll have to see. it'll still take time (as in: weeks) and it'll obviously only be an option if numbers keep improving. fingers crossed...

end of august update

epidemiological situation:
  • the 14d incidence per 100k pop has come down to 429 now for ibiza. 7d test positivity rate is at 7.5%.
  • ibiza hospital & ICU situation: 43 in hospital, 8 in ICU.
  • vaccination: on the balearics we're just touching 80% of adult pop with a first shot and over 75% of adult pop with both shots. this translates to just under 65% of the entire balearic population fully vaccinated.
resuming, the situation keeps improving at a steady pace. all numbers are moving in the right direction. over on the other balearic islands (basically all islands minus ibiza), from today onwards, places may stay open until 2am now. ibiza still has the worst numbers out of all the islands (incidence and ICU occupation) and that's why we still have the 1am close and no reunions rule. but, hopefully in a week or latest two, we also get the go ahead for an extra hour at night. I'm positive we'll get there.

with the two peak season months gone, if I had to make a verdict of the summer so far, then I would have to say, that even though dancing was sadly banned (and still is), the season in general has gone a lot better than many people expected. general tourism has been working well - and that had always been the local government's goal for this summer. and while on other islands in the mediterranean sea things are coming to an end already, here on ibiza we are looking ahead at at least another full month of events in places like ushuaïa, cova santa, pikes, bora bora etc. I am saying at least because I know that, depending on how things go in the coming few weeks, some venues might extend their events into october. normal tourism will continue until end of october at least anyway (there are still plans to try and extend until later), so we really still have two full months of tourism ahead of us.

will we get that cheeky end of season dance? now where is my 🔮 ??

as usual, if anything important changes, here's where you'll read it first.

and another update before the weekend

epidemiologic situation
  • 14d incidence per 100k is now at 387, positivity rate at 7%
  • hospital / ICU: 39 in hospital, 6 in ICU
  • vaccination: 80% of adult balearic pop with a first shot, 76,5% with both shots.
so the situation keeps improving and the tension of the health care system is easing. when will the balearic government let us dance? well, in a first step, all going well, next week we should get the OK to have places open until 2am. that's a first step.

as usual, more news as we get it.

here are some good news to start the week with

epidemiologic situation
  • 14d incidence per 100k pop keeps going down and is now at 318. 7d test positivity rate also keeps going down and is now at 6.3%
  • hospital / ICU situation: 27 in hospital, 7 in ICU
  • vaccination: 80% of adult balearic pop with one shot, 77% with both shots. in total population numbers we're just under 65% of balearic pop fully vaccinated
news
  • as from tomorrow onwards, places may stay open until 2am here on ibiza. we still have the 'no reunions' rule between 2am and 6am - hopefully only for one more week, because all other islands of the balearic archipelago don't have this rule anymore from tomorrow onwards because of their favourable epidemiologic situation. I'm positive we will also get rid of that. so people banking on a late season visit might indeed get rewarded...we'll see
  • the number of people at one table is now also going up again - 8 inside, 12 outside
  • dancing officially still banned, but let's just put it that way, if you wanna dance, you can find solutions here and there ;)

update before the weekend, things are looking better & better...

epidemiological situation:
  • 14d incidence per 100k pop is now down at 250 and the 7d test positivity rate is at 3.5%
  • hospital / ICU situation: 19 in hospital, 6 in ICU
  • the number of active covid cases has gone down 40% in the last week, a lot of people recovering vs not many new cases - great evolution
  • vaccination: 80.7% 1shot, 77.6%both shots (of adult pop)
news
  • both o beach ibiza as well as cova santa plan to stay open until 17 october this year, the plan to extend the season a little looks like it's actually going to happen!

the week starts with good news

epidemiological situation
  • 14d incidence per 100k pop now down at 175 and the 7d test positivity rate is at 2.8%
  • hospital situation: 19 in hospital, 5 in ICU
  • vaccination 80.8% first shots, 78% both shots (of adult pop)
news
  • from wednesday onwards, the nightly reunion prohibition is gone!

resuming...the situation has improved massively in the last few weeks. the last restrictions on reunions/meetings are being lifted this week. also this week the government and the nightlife association is meeting again. so hopefully in a week or so we'll know whether we'll have that end of the season dance or whether we'll have to wait until next year.

here's another update

epidemiological situation
  • 14d incidence per 100k pop has come down to 148 now on ibiza. the 7d test positivity rate is at 3.6% and that's currently the lowest value within the entire balearic archipelago
  • hospital situation remains similar: 13 in hospital, 6 in ICU (a pattern which can be seen lots in spain right now: general covid hospital numbers decrease quite rapidly while ICU patients stick around longer for obvious reasons)
  • vaccination: 81.2% of adult pop with a first shot, 78.5% completely vaccinated. we're getting closer to that 80% of adult pop fully vaccinated benchmark. and if we're talking the entire balearic population (including kids), we're just hitting two thirds now.

news
  • just today the nightlife association and the local government are meeting to talk about a possible re-opening of clubs now that the sanitary situation has improved massively. the government has previously adverted they're not gonna give out or agree to a speficic reopening date just yet, so let's see what actually transpires today. whenever we get some news about that we'll update immediately of course. it might be later today, but it also might take longer maybe.

on the subject, this is all that's transpired so far - the news is there is no news just yet.

more whenever there is more to report.

one last update this week

epidemiologic situation
  • 14d incidence per 100k pop keeps sinking, it's now at 135. 7d test positivity rate is at 3.3%. number of active cases keeps going down.
  • hospital / ICU: 13 / 5. also, the balearics have lef the 'high risk' zone now in terms of ICU occupation as well as incidence.
  • vaccination % almost same as yesterday (see two posts above)

news
  • reading the different newspieces in regards to reopening of clubs (WITH OPEN DANCEFLOORS) it seems the local government is in for it this time. it'll take until next week until we know details and the reopening date might only be mid october (the nightlife association was pitching for start of october), but seeing other autonomías in spain reopening the nightlife sector, it's really just a matter of time now until we'll be dancing again as well here. and it might indeed help extend the tourist season this year if the sector gets the OK to do a few 'real' parties in october. my advice is don't book any flights just yet (unless you already have), but maybe do look out for travel options, I have a feeling we actually might be finally able to say 'see you on the dancefloor!' within a few weeks. and while it's of course very late in the season and no real money will be made with those few one-offs, it will be an extremely important signal to the world that ibiza's nightlife is still here, has survived, and will be ready to rock the sh*t out of 2022 😎
  • here are some newspieces on the matter: https://cadenaser.com/emisora/2021/09/16/radio_ibiza/1631811184_854306.html and https://www.periodicodeibiza.es/pit...ta-apertura-discotecas-antes-del-octubre.html
  • for the UK folk, it's not set in stone yet, but the balearics might be taken off the amber list today and thus PCR tests won't be necessary anymore to get back home after your hols. details to follow once all rules are clear...

I might be a little enthusiastic right now, but maybe we'll have to organize a forum meetup very late in the season this year ;) fingers crossed.

no news on nightlife yet, so here's just a quick update on numbers

- 14d incidence per 100k pop now down at 110, 7d test positivity rate at 3.4%
- 20 in hospital, 6 in ICU
- vaccination: 81.6% of adult balearic pop with a first short, 79.2% completely vaccinated

according to this newspiece, next monday might be d-day. the nightlife association apparently expects to be given green lights to reopen the clubs at that meeting with the balearic government.

just to point out: while a few venues have stated they want to reopen ASAP, it will all depend on the conditions and details given by the government.

so at the start of next week we should once again know more.

hope dies last, maybe we do get that end of the season dance after all?

sooooo...

today is a big day in terms of news, here's a first roundup

CLUB NEWS:
  • the government allows the clubs to reopen from 8 october onwards. the balearic government has requested the local supreme court to accept the 'green pass' (proof of vaccination) as a base for people to be let in into clubs. it's a condition, so only *IF* the court accepts that, then these are the rules to start with:
  • the big venues are allowed to open until 5am while smaller venues like pubs and bars may stay open until 4am. 75% capacity limit.
  • a bit similar as with the test event before the season, there are two zones: a seated zone where you can drink and chat and a dancefloor. on the dancefloor you currently have to wear a mask (don't forget that was the case for berlin as well until recently). so the dancing ban is gone, but to start with you'd still have to bring your mask.
so as a quick resume, the court first has to say yes to this. and if that happens, then the clubs can start announcing things. and even if it's not a 'no restrictions' situation just yet, I can assure you talks are being held right now between various promoters and clubs and things might move VERY quickly.

OTHER IBIZA NEWS
  • restaurants get rid of their x person per table rule and are allowed to open more of their interior space now too (it's still summer here don't forget that though and outside they can use all their space anyway).
  • also for concerts people are now allowed to stand up, no more seated concerts anymore
  • gyms can use more of their max capacity, mask wearing still a yes though

same here, it's not a total lift of restrictions just yet, but we're getting far closer to normality now.

there will be lots of news in the next few days so I'll just keep on doing what I've been doing for the last 18 months for you guys, updating this thread whenever there's any news. but I have a feeling our party calendar might indeed get a few late season additions and I am certain we'll get a few cheeky LEGAL dance sessions before winter comes.

HERE WE GO!

the local supreme court has just accepted the balearic government's request that clubs may require the covid passport of clients as a base to enter the venue.

so, from 8 october night clubs on the balearics may finally open again with the above already explained rules. the aforementioned covid passport entails either being fully vaccinated, having recovered from covid (proof of antibodies) or a recent negative test. I'm sure we'll hear more about the details in the next days.

now, we'll see various venues announcing things VERY SOON - as soon as this afternoon and evening I think.

if you are debating doing a late season weekend, wait a few days and look at coming over thu or fri to tuesday would be my recommendation.

more news VERY SOON.

here's another update

club news first

  • dc10 has announced they will be opening for 3 mondays: 11, 18 and 25 october. 5pm to 5am. online tix for that are usually on sale over on RA only so if you wanna go I would recommend you check every now and then if any tix have become available yet.
  • eden has put out a few teasers and should soon also announce actual stuff
  • amnesia holds their closing on 23 october, look out for more announcements that might be coming from them
  • there's still more to come... :)

epidemiological situation

  • 14d incidence per 100k pop is at 119 for ibiza. only 3 covid patients in ICU which is the lowest value in a LONG time.
  • vaccination on balearics: 80.5% of adult population is now fully vaccinated.

sooo...

today's the day the dancing ban finally gets lifted on the balearics - after one and a half years and basically two entire ibiza seasons. I've said it before, it's too late in the year now for it to make a big difference, but for both island locals as well as the island's clubbing industry it's a massive relief that we're finally allowed to start things up again.

just last night octan, eden and swag have announced a few october parties which add to the already announced events at dc10 and amnesia. so from this weekend onwards, and probably up to halloween (nothing announced for halloween yet though), we'll have a bit of end of season weekend clubbing here on ibiza. the weather's absolutely gorgeous right now, 25 degrees during the day and nicely cool at night. perfect to hit the beaches during the day and go dancing when it gets dark 😎

the balearics' covid situation is very stable, the archipelago's 14d incidence per 100k pop is down at 70, test positivity rate is at 2.3% and over 80% of the adult population is fully vaxxed now which translates to almost 70% of the entire balearic pop vaccinated.

I'll keep on updating this thread every now and then if anything important comes up, but I do hope that less and less posts will be necessary as we get into winter and especially ahead for 2022.

I was hoping I wouldn't have to touch this thread anymore before the new year (or at all tbh), but I'm afraid there will be some changes it seems and as usual, we want you to know first.

the basics
  • after almost four months (september to december) with a very favourable epidemiologic situation on the balearic islands, covid has sadly made a return. it's the same for the entire country, everywhere in spain numbers have just gone up massively, similar as in other european countries - omicron variant seems to be the main reason for it.
  • for now, the hospital/ICU/fatalities numbers are much better though than compared to last winter. obviously we have the vaccines, but there's also hope that omicron indeed is milder than its predecessors. we'll only know in a few weeks though since the numbers have just jumped now and usually there's a delay with hospital/ICU/death numbers. but again, for now the hospitals aren't saturated in the same way they were one year ago.

the consequences
  • the booster campaign is up and running, currently ages 50+ can get a booster (40+ to come next, date TBA) and children vaccination has also just started
  • the biggest news for now is that most probably the outdoor mask mandate comes in effect again. the government has just announced this, it'll still need to pass congress, but it's probably a formality. if you remember, sports were exempt of that for example and there were more exceptions - we'll get you all the details once we have them. (circoloco have already made a post saying masks will be mandatory for their NYD party).
  • re nightlife, unless it'll be a country-wide decision, the balearic government apparently for now doesn't want to impose any more restrictions. we'll see on this, I take these announcements with a pinch of salt these days.

dynamic situation - we shall update again when we know more, but I thought I'd post just in case anyone on here comes down for xmas/nye.

update to what I wrote yesterday:

  • outdoor masks indeed come in effect again (from 24 dec onwards). if you're out on a hike, on the beach, anywhere in the nature you don't have to wear one (phew!), it's just when you get into towns and villages really where you can't maintain social distance.
  • covid pass (vaccination or neg test) is needed for almost everything indoor now (up until now, small bars with a cap of under 50 were exempt for example, not anymore now).
  • no further restrictions at this point - no closures of gyms, bars, clubs or anything for now.
it seems the balearic government also finally wants to learn to live with the virus rather than closing down everything. while we have a high number of daily new infections on all islands right now, hospital and ICU occupation (and deaths) are nowhere as high as in past waves and I guess that is the main reason the authorities don't start shutting down stuff again.

let's hope it stays that way. merry xmas from team spotlight and stay healthy folks!

one last update in the old year
  • purely from an infection numbers point of view the situation has worsened a lot - from 300-500 daily infections on the entire balearic archipelago a month ago, we're now currently at almost 2000 daily infections (vast majority on mallorca though as it's the biggest island).
  • the good news is, the percentage of people having no symptoms at all or are just suffering a very mild covid illness is immense.
  • the hospital and ICU situation is nowhere as tense as in past waves.
the numbers will most likely go up even more still, seeing as we're still in the middle of the festive season with nye/nyd as well as reyes (3 kings day, 6 jan, very important holiday in spain) still to come. probably we'll only peak some time middle to end of jan and it's likely that by then the hospital/ICU situation gets worse. but for now, the balearic government stays on the path they've taken: no further closures.

the current rules/restrictions are these
  • you need to wear masks outside again, unless you are in a rural area and/or doing sports
  • you need a covid passport (vaccine or neg test) for almost anywhere indoors now
the planned NYE/NYD parties here on ibiza are still ON. keep in mind you have to wear a mask. after catching two venues in mallorca that weren't following the rules (or let's say it like this: they didn't insist the customers followed the rules), the government says they'll be extra vigilant and that they might shut down nightlife again if rules aren't being followed for nye/nyd. so if you do attend one of the parties, be aware the venues might insist more on wearing the masks...

all the best for 2022 from team spotlight, we hope we'll see you all on the island this coming year!
