quick update:
ibiza's epidemiologic situation is improving further. as per yesterday, the 14day incidence per 100k inhabitants was at 116, the 7day one has dropped to 34. and today only 4 new cases were reported so the data will keep improving. the data improving slowest is the hospitalisation and ICU pressure. it's getting better too, but only very slowly.
the above re hospital pressure is a common thing all over spain. so even though in a lot of comunidades the numbers are looking WAY better now (the balearics are currently the second best looking area of spain btw), the health departments are worried that opening too quickly - especially for easter week - could result in another big wave of infections in a time where the vaccination % isn't high yet and the hospital pressure hasn't dropped enough. therefore, the health department has just recommended to keep up the current perimetral lockdowns until after easter as well as the nightly curfew. meaning we can't travel within spain unless we have a valid reason to do so and 10pm to 6am is curfew. the government still needs to approve this next week.
while this most probably means another very quiet month here on the balearics with no tourism at all, most people seem to agree it's the right thing to do after what happened in the entire country after xmas. mind, easter (semana santa) is a big thing for the spanish and the second biggest celebration week just after xmas/new year with lots of family reunions etc. and here on the balearics the vast majority of people are aware we're putting the season on the line if we fcuk it up in that period. this is also why all the beachside restaurants have decided to only open up for 21 towards the end of april. better give the vaccination campaign a little time and get those numbers further down.
more news as we get them!
