ok so here's my feedback about cocoon closing and their 2015 season as a whole:

first off a few replies / feedbacks to above comments. thanks @JB2008 for corrections on last tunes as well as more tunes, a few of them I hadn't ID'd yet myself (the daniel bortz one for example - tune!).

then @gutsy next time say hi!
@Vinyldreams shame you didn't enjoy it. I only got the last tune of sonja moonear when I arrived on the terrace, but also thought that was a bit weird. and yeah, it was busy, but compared to other parties (music on anyone) and for general ibiza standards, still very much bearable.

ok but now in chronological order...

we arrived at amnesia at 2am and directly headed into the main room to catch the last hour of mano le tough. I had heard him a few times this year and this set was the hardest one I've heard by him on the island, very close to the tough stuff he played when I saw him playing berghain (downstairs, not panorama bar) in january. then we changed over to the terrace right for the start of henrik schwarz's live performance. in contrast to others on here, I thought it was fantastic, one of the highlights of the night for me personally.

then at 4 it was time for daddy sven. I thought his first hour was a bit so-so, it seemed it took him some time to find his bearings, but then, from about 5am onwards, it was peak time techno central on the terrace. he banged out a lot of stuff that I had heard when he played his main room sets and kept the energy up at a relentless pace and it was a very energetic session until after the terrace was flooded by sunlight again. only about the last two or three hours (if I remember correctly) he dipped into the trippier spectrum of stuff. as posted before, ricardo tobar's brittle was one of those tracks. this is a track which definitely is in my personal top three of the summer and it works so damn well to change things up. also it is one of those tunes you just HAVE to listen to on a big sound system, only then you get the full power and beauty of this track. love it. and then it was obviously funny to see sven playing his almost 30 year old own production 'electrica salsa' (done under the moniker OFF) at 11am. also a lot of tomfooleries were included during the night and especially in the morning. the guy doing the superman rocket launch from the podium to the DJ booth (posted on cocoon's facebook wall earlier) is a good friend of mine and I was one of the guys holding him from below - such a funny moment.

then home for a much needed shower, breakfast, clean clothes and soon after we were off to benimussa park for the afters. I had known the location for a while already and was also aware that we were going to get rain (sorry again but I'll never post an after hours location before it's started or the promoters themselves announce it). arrived at afters at around 2pm (I think?) and had a great time. cool to see a few forum people (@JB2008 , @mmintz , @Morbyd ...have I forgotten anyone?) at the afters and obviously tons of friends living on the island or on holidays for closings. when the rain started people of course weren't amused at the start, but the afters were so good, in the end it didn't matter anymore and somehow it made the event even the more special. the music was great all afternoon, sven was in brilliant form and the atmosphere in benimussa park was fantastic. it was very busy, actually a bit too busy for my liking (especially at an afterparty) but I had expected that ever since I knew they're going to do it at the zoo, so I was prepared for it. we stayed until the very end and then caught a taxi home, obviously we were all totally soaked, our shoes made that funny noise with every step we took, but it mattered little. after a quick hot shower we opened up a bottle of cava (nicely waiting for us in the fridge) and had a toast to cocoon season number 16. for me it was season 12; I've been a fan of cocoon ibiza since 2004.

cocoon's 2015 season was overall a very good one, better than 2014 and much better than 2013 and 2012 (those two years they felt the then new music on and ENTER parties a lot, especially 2013). of course there were also a few dates this summer when it wasn't extremely busy in one of the two floors, but as explained a lot of times beforehand, the era of when cocoon was packed every monday all season is long gone, that was when there weren't so many other techno parties. cocoon can really be happy with their summer; while ENTER had a huge dip in numbers, cocoon was stable and got more people through their doors than in past years - and this even with a new in-house competitor in the form of HYTE. lots of people on the island thought cocoon were going to suffer massively because of HYTE, but it was proven that cocoon simply have a very true following and HYTE also did suffer more from paradise than it was expected.

the main reason why I stick to being such a fan of cocoon is their simple approach on things - no huge 'concept' (ENTER...come on, it's a party, not an art exhibition), no exaggerated PR campaign (HYTE), no stereotypical crowd (ENTER and music on). instead, they put the music in the middle of things and the fact that you should go there to DANCE. a superb crowd week in week out, most of them very clued up about music, but no snobs, and in my opinion the best atmosphere out of all the techno parties on the island. plus, cocoon are still the undisputed kings of after hours.

you know, if you've got enough money, anyone can come and launch a party on ibiza or throw an after hours. but it's a simple fact; no one does it quite like cocoon :)

see you next year sven & co. I've missed 3 mondays this summer, all other monday nights were highlights this season. thank you for the music, the laughter and countless hours of fun!

Great to get reviews, big thx.

Sven´s "Electrica Salsa" Remix will be released in future....

It was the Henrik Schwarz Rmx that he played in Amnesia, not the original from 89!

Great reviews, I went to a cocoon closing in 2011 I think it was when sven played the main room and it was brilliant.

the video on Ibiza Spotlight facebook page of Ricardo Tobar- Brittle tune is just as described bliss. Can't believe some people have commented on it saying it's rubbish- silly people.

Aye I seen that, some complete fools commenting on it.
I would have loved to been there for that moment

!

I did Cocoon with Adam Beyer and Ida Engberg back to back which was amazing. Loved the simplicity of the event, just great music and a great crowd. Looking forward to next year.

I love this comment - get put off with the whole "CONCEPT" thing a bit, Richie's his bio sort of cracks me up...

"Richie Hawtin is an electronic futurist and maverick whose critical acclaim runs from the fine art community to the techno vanguard. As a DJ he leads polls by the likes of Resident Advisor and DJ Magazine and has changed the direction of the art form via his innovations with technology and performance. He’s an artist constantly pushing frontiers, moving things forward, welcoming as many as he can to ideas that would have seemed pure science fiction when he began his career."

Hawtin is a bit of a dick though isn't he? Not as bad as Andy Whitby though.

Andy Whitby is not just a hard house DJ, he is an experience.

He is a state of mind.

He is the transporter of minds and souls to an amazing frantic paradise that, while leaving you knackered, strangely also leaves you feeling re-invigorated.

At 6ft tall and broad-shouldered, with his trademark shaved head, a chunky ostentatious chain around his neck, and immaculate dress sense (if it’s not designer, it doesn’t go anywhere near him) he makes an imposing figure who commands respect.

His confident appearance is matched by his masterful control of a good mixing desk. Before each set he always powers down the previous track and leads the packed dance floor in a show of appreciation for the out-going DJ, before kick-starting his performance into a blaze of visuals, an orchestra of special effects which extracts every quality beat of each track as he begins his show.

To watch Andy DJ is part of the Whitby experience. Cocky? Perhaps, but certainly not arrogant, Whitby is now in control of the minds and bodies of his audience. A very precise and confident body language gives a visual indication to what he is playing as he acts out each track.

Yet, he is not dancing; this is something far more emotional. Imagine watching a porn star having hot, rough, yet passionate but dominating sex to a breathless, wailing lover which, in this case, comes in the shape of a mixing desk. Forceful, dominant, aggressive yet somehow tender and caring. The visual impact allows your body to further immerse itself in the ecstasy he is submitting you to; your ears alone cannot possibly absorb everything that he is throwing at you.

As for his sound, imagine every track as a partially completed canvas. Through the use of effects on the mixing desk, Andy adds his own colour, texture and feel as he maximises every beat of every track to create the unique Whitby sound. His precision mixing at incalculable speeds is part of the show; as each track mixes in you can positively feel the dance-floor going up a notch to keep up with the frantic and energetic DJ that has them all by the balls.

Andy’s blend of vocal uplifting bouncy house is like him: deliciously hard yet very accessible. And when Andy makes eye contact with you, even if only be for a second, you get to experience the ultimate unique sensation of him seeking your seal of approval. In that moment you have transcended being a mere audience member, into being part of what will almost certainly be the set of the night. The sheer euphoria you feel is exceptional.

And then at the end, breathless, skin tingling and with a grin on your face from ear to ear, you feel as though every drop of energy has been sucked right out of you, just like those few moments after one of the best orgasms of your life.

Accompanying Andy to a gig is quite an experience. He is literally mobbed upon his arrival and departure from each gig, with fans eager to speak to their idol, or have their photograph taken with him. Mobile phone-cum-digital cameras are designed for such occasions as his devotees put one arm around him and pose with their hero as the other arm acts as a remote-controlled tri-pod for the self-portrait.

Fortunately, Andy’s driver doubles up as proficient photographer for those not quite so adept at taking their own photos. Andy is always more than happy to oblige, which on one hand is good for the clubbers, but on the other a logistical nightmare for his driver when trying to get Whitby from club entrance to DJ decks for his set, then back again in a timely manner. And for the time he is performing, the space right in front of the DJ decks is hotly contested floor space.

Andy Whitby is the standard that so many more strive for. There are a plethora of CD compilations that he has mixed but listening to one of these is like trying to view a fine piece of art in a darkened room. You need to see him live to really appreciate the full and overwhelming experience that is The Saviour of Hard-Dance.

You can generally tell if a hard-house event is going to be credible and worth the money if you see Andy Whitby’s name heading the DJ line-up. It’s almost like seeing a quality assurance seal, royal crest or five star rating”.

My personal song of the season. If you was there you will know that moment when the triple bass kicks in around 3.30 (cheers Sven) 10/10 for cocoon.. Was there maybe 9 Monday's this year.. Already looking forward to opening to opening 16. Xx
