Cocoon 2015

Bit of a debate on this in another thread. I'll always stick up for him as I'm a big fan and honestly he's right up there for me, not at a festival but in fabric playing 5 hours plus from 6am sometimes through to midday or 1pm it's a whole different kettle of fish and magic really happens.

Can empathise with the guys giving him stick, but a 2 hour slot on a big festival stage between Carl Cox and Sven is never going to be vintage Villalobos.

Believe me I've seen him play absolute stinkers, and travelled miles for gigs when he hasn't turned up, but for me when he is on form and in the right environment he is one of the most exciting djs.

Nothing beats Ricardo at Fabric from early hours till lunch. I imagine the the only thing comparable would be the closing parties perhaps because the clubs closing at 8ish since 2008 don't give Ibiza a change to compete.

first cocoon I missed all summer last night. heard the same though, ricardo in great form, sonja moonear sadly not (she was ACE a month ago though).

I just came back home from my holidays and Ibiza still bright in my thoughts.
Me and my wife had a blast in Cocoon July 6th.

Just a little review of my personal feelings of that night...

In the very beginning we came too early and enter amnesia at 01:30 a.m. For those who don't know the place it's not a good idea...the whole thing just really starts at 03:00 a.m. ... so enjoy well DC-10 before think about going to cocoon.

We started in the terrace and tried Romam Flugel...and sorry about his fans but we didn't enjoy it at all...boring tracks for a warm up...we tried so hard to get what he was playing but about 45 minutes suffering with a disconnected sound we move to the main room. Fellows...my expectation about the main were terrible and I was absolutely WRONG.

As the start Mano Le Tough was smashing from the beginning. With a modern and dynamic sound, he was involving the whole place and turn into a very dark and obscure scene. With big breaks and a tremendous groove we got warmed up very very quickly and start to fell the power of the main room.

The place got busy very quickly and the vibe was amazing. The atmosphere were somehow sinister…the beats were so involving and reached a level of tenderness that we never felt before.

The transition with Sven were difficult for us to understand….the place got absolutely dark and freighting. The dancers an performers were amazing but they make it more fright too….for the first time in my life I’ve had to left the place…jajaja serious....we’ve got really scared! Things got so heavy….

To give a break we changed to terrace for a moment and the place were like a candy shop…we catched the final of Art Department set and we didn't enjoyed it at all…a poor and weak sound. The difference between terrace and main room sound and crowd was terrifying….it seems like terrace became a playground for kids.

We tried some minutes with Guy Gerber but even he (I’m big fan of GG) couldn’t make us stay in terrace. He played a more simple sound at the beginning of his set….somehow looked like a techy house wave…trying to catch the most unknown crowd that were there with a more simple and easy listen sound…I know that probably things got more complex after but the main..ooow the main…..it was pumping with Papa Sven and the crowd went nuts…

Don’t know how the power of main room affect us that night but that’s no way we could stay more in the terrace…the main room were much better at all…..

In my opinion Mano has the most powerful and involving sounds nowadays…he made the best warm up that I ever seen… Sven got the dance floor melting away and he knew that…
In the begging he putted more darkness to the place I the things got really serious down there…

Epic night folks…

I have to say that was one of my best rave moments...it was completing different from other nights that I have been in Ibiza…at that moment we stopped the super fun “techy Ibiza fiesta sound” and took a massive lesson of e-music.

Know I understand why some of you really miss a good main room night…hope I can get more of this soon!

**PS--> sorry about my bad english...

Not surprised with Art Department (Jonny White) not playing well. He was pretty biring when i saw him last time. He recently sorta dissed Toronto (our hometown) saying how it was filled with laptop DJs that just press sync. What a guy...

I've seen Mano open up for Sven before and he was good!

As you know I'm probably the biggest 'mainroom' fan on tne forum, glad you enjoyed it. was there on july 6th and have to agree that it had a veeery late start, (fluegel basically alone) but I wouldn't agree that its always best to come late to cocoon as a majority of nights fill up much quicker.
oh and art department was reaaally boring, yes.

I think i am not too far behind you, everyone has a love affair with the terrace and yes it is amazing, but I like the dark driving bass in the main room, its just more my style of a dark room with great sound. Everytime i have ever gone to Amnesia regardless of the party i tend to stay more in the main room.

Hmmm...I guess it worked well for Maceo Plex, I see what you mean. The Together event I went to with the dubstep and drum and bass stuff sounded extra good with the bass in the main room, plus it had an urban type of vibe where you can pull if you wanted to lol.

I dunno that terrace is still nuts and is the stuff of legendary nights

Count me as another fan of the Main Room, saw Sven put on a stellar all-nighter there back in 2010. He'll be doing it in the terrace though September 7th, looking forward to seeing how it compares.

Heading over on the 24th of august and was gonna head to cocoon for richie and sven. Will it be overly packed? I know it's gonna be a busy night but will it be so packed you can't move? Seen richie at paradise two years ago and it was crazy busy. Couldn't move and left after an hour so was wondering will this be similar?

To be honest, I don't think it will be CRAZY busy (just going from past years)! If you look at the Coccon ticket prices they start to drop a little last week of August as a few less people around. Personally I quite like the last week of August - still peak season but just a bit more room! My next trip isn't until this week, so will probably do it. I think they are now both in the Club Room this year as opposed to Terrace for the last few, so that should mix it up a bit. Never seen Richie in the Main/Club room.

Also, remember that Sven & Richie are also at Space/ENTER the following Thursday so that may spread the load of people a bit (unless you're a nut like me and do both)! And Sven at Space is a treat....

they'll play the terrace mr_why.

it'll be very busy, but not unbearably packed for sure.

also re cocoon...next week cova santa on tuesday according to cova santa homepage.
