2024 - DC10 (aged 59)

(Fella is 6ft 10 too - hope they raised the decks for him!)
Is this Circo Loco's celebrity response to Idris Elba @ Hi?! I first saw his name on a Circo Loco poster in 2022. I just saw him Monday, and thought he was pretty good!

Circo Loco is as crowded as ever. They are amazing lineups, so I get it. I went on Monday. I have conflicting opinions.

Black Coffee played a wonderfully hypnotic set. I found myself wondering how long each song went, and how many were playing at the same time. Each looping drum beat and percussion set seemed to match better than the last, continually unfolding over each other. All of the builds felt completely earned. The crowd really locked into most of them, despite their progressive lengths, making the payoffs that much more satisfying. There were no clouds in the sky. I thought it a fitting metaphor for the two hours leading into the evening.

By the time Black Coffee's set ended, and both interior rooms started to fill, the three faces of Circo Loco at DC10 become more apparent. This wasn't my first, but the patterns are more clear. People are spilling out of the Terrace doors. It's crowded. It's always crowded by this point. The Main Room may have the initial appearance of being crowded, but after passing through a few layers of people, there is space to be found.

In the Terrace, it's hard to determine if anyone there actually likes the music, is there for a specific DJ, or is there for another reason. There are muted reactions to some of the more recognized songs. Phones don't crowd the field of view for specific breakdowns. Most people cannot reach in their pockets/purses for them! Even as DJ Koze closes out his set with one of the major DnB songs of the last 12 months, all that can be noticed is that people recognize the song. By this point, everyone's asking each other if this is worth it? Are we here to say "we survived"?

In the Main Room, it's possible to see personalities on the dance floor. People that are lost in the moment, people that are mingling, people that are adapting to the experience. Francesco del Garda and Rony Seikaly aren't playing big crowd singalongs or huge anthems, but solid, deep house music. Most of the crowd is having a good time, but they aren't enamored, and I can't help but wonder how many people are refugees from the Terrace. All in good spirits, otherwise.

Back outside in the Garden, it's a combination of typical outdoor socializing and the aftermath of trench warfare. Bodies upon bodies, all bathed in the ever-present red glow of the night at hand. 10 yards deep, you can observe multiple people stepping through the arms and legs of the fallen, as if they all have been equipped with mines pieced together from the memories of the ill-fated that came before them.

The party is aptly named. It crosses levels of a spectrum. I hope everyone has a good time!

I love your writing style. Reads like something from a Bret Easton Ellis novel! We were just missing the details of a murder in the corner of the garden.

Thank you very much! I cannot recount any murders, but my leg is still smarting from a sharp step on my ankle. Lessons learned for another day!

Report from last night. Wasn’t my favourite Circo Loco, but we had a good night anyway.

Got there about 21:15 after Adriatique had just started. Started OK, was very them, but I got pretty bored to be honest. Quite a lazy set, and maybe a bit of a waste having them on early. Ended up playing some weird vocal crap around 22:30 so moved inside.

Went inside for Skream at 22:30 and glad we did. A much better set, and a classic early Terrace set, with the added advantage most people were in the garden listening to Adriatique - because they thought they should! Skream mixed in Billie Eilish and Charli xcx, which is my fav tune at the moment. Was an even better remix than the original.

&me came on at midnight and I had a spot by the backstage door (thankfully). It got so busy. I’m not usually a “you couldn’t move” moaner, but my god it was next level. I’m sorry but those Keinmusik guys are just too popular at the moment for a room that size. However, I thought his set was actually really good. Much faster than usual, and maybe caught a few fan-boys off guard. Could only handle just over 1 hour with the crowds, but so good.

After that went outside and started chatting to the usual collection of randoms that the garden always delivers on.

Went into the main room, and stayed there until 04:30. Really good sets and a much better vibe of people too. LP Giobbi was really good!

Might go again next Monday, but likely will go to Harvey at Pikes for a change.

We're thinking about CircoLoco on 23rd September, I've heard or seen posted in a few places that it's been unbearably busy some nights, can anyone say if it's likely to still be super busy by then or will it be a bit quieter by end of September?

Simple fact, it will be busy!

I was there around same dates last year . And it was very very busy. DC doesnt seem “quieter” in any period , may be except for June .

No worries, I was just trying to gauge if it's likely to be packed out to a level where it's no longer a good time. We'll go for it and find out I guess!

Ron has been releasing very nice dirty(ish) deep house for quite a few years now. I don't know how much of his productions he does (all, bits, ghost tracks, whatever) but they are good tracks.

Thanks for this.

Predictable about &Me popularity.

I have the option to do the same on Sep 30th as him and Rampa are playing but might hold out for the 7th of October date as it might be less busy without them, plus I'm praying to the gods Dixon is playing that day 🤞

I might be unpopular saying this, but for me both DC10 rooms are just too small for any of the Keinemusik guys at the moment!

anyone think its possible that they might do adam port in the garden and then &me b2b Rampa as part of this years closing party on the 14th after the Kloud night in Hi on the 12th ?

I have learnt over the years, never try and guess Circo set times..

So my prayers for Dixon on the 7th of Oct have not been answered.
Nevermind. I'm now a bit more tempted to do the 30th Sep date rather than this one but I think I'll stick it out 🙂

Guess I'll be giving Maceo another listen after I swore id never see him again, hope he's still not playing that strange music.

Still there's a good enough line up to keep me interested 👍 plus it might even be less busy if there's no Keine DJs about.
