International Christmas Market @ Boutique Hostal Salinas 18th-20th Dec

AND SO, THIS IS CHRISTMAS

Ibiza’s 1st International Christmas Market brings a global flavour to the festive season. The 3-day event at Boutique Hostal Salinas commences Friday 18th December with profits being donated to APNEEF

If there’s one thing about Christmas, it’s the way it makes one feel all fuzzy inside. Maybe it’s the combination of the sparkly tinsel and the lights on the tree, maybe it’s the repetition ad infinitum of Christmas Carols and indeed Christmas Number Ones from the likes of Slade or John Lennon or maybe it’s just the thought of ripping the paper from a well wrapped present…but one thing is for sure, Christmas just wouldn’t be the same without a good old overdose of peace and goodwill to all men. And women. And especially, children.

And it is exactly that sentiment that Duesi Wolfmeir, Anita Dey and David Phillips, venue owners and the brains behind the 1st International Christmas Market will try to convey this weekend at Boutique Hostal Salinas. Taking place from Friday 18th til Sunday 20th December, the 3 day event plans to showcase Christmas- the worldwide excuse for a holiday, in all its many guises, with a commendable alterior motive of raising funds for one of the island’s most relevant charity organisations, APNEEF~ the Ibiza&Formentera Association for Children with Special Needs.

The point is that Christmas has evolved into an opportunity to unite globally, to bond with those closest to us and to extend a hand to those who aren’t so fortunate. And where better to attempt all of the above than in Ibiza, the melting pot of culture and character.

Over the course of the three day multi-cultural market, which officially opens at 5pm on Friday, the organisers have prepared a wealth of Christmas goodies- from handmade handicrafts from far flung corners of the globe to spontaneous renditions of classic Christmas Carols and even an appearance from old Santa Claus himself, and albeit a clichÈ, there really is something for everyone. A chance to peruse possible Yuletide gifts, partake in some fine food and wine or take home a work of art by local artists including Marcos Torres or Jes·s de Miguel, all the while safe in the knowledge that it’s all for a good cause.

As well as all raffle proceeds being donated to APNEEF, event organisers are extending the invitation to the island’s children to bring along their own unwanted toys and games which will be donated to charity.

THE MARKET
A combination of goods and gifts from Austria, Africa and Asia to name but only three of the participating nations, and a chance to give an original gift this Christmas. Homemade treats and handicrafts of all shapes and sizes, Gluhwein, CafÈ Caleta, tapas and snacks, all bases are covered in the quest for the true spirit of Christmas.

THE RAFFLE
With the International Christmas Market’s main aim being to help those less fortunate, raffle tickets will be on sale throughout the course of the weekend. Draws will take place on all three days with prizes donated by local businesses with the main raffle to be held on the Sunday.

THE ENTERTAINMENT
Apart from a live broadcast on
Sonica FM, 95.2FM, on Friday, expect the full cast and crew of Ibiza’s Flamenco Massive also known as Lolailo Lailo to take over the stage from morning to night on Saturday with live performance from Paco Romero and Gabriel Miranda amongst others. Sunday, meanwhile, is geared towards the younger generation with kids’ activities including face painting, bouncy castles and the one and only Father Christmas in the house.

THE CAUSE
APNEEF, the Ibiza and Formentera Association for Children with Special Needs is a worthy cause indeed. All proceeds of the three day fundraising drive will be donated to the charity which serves to provide much needed services and support to both the mentally and physically disabled children of the island.
